Filip Zadina was not an Yzerman pick...

This is the moment, where all of the fans of a team come to terms with a failed prospect/pick.

Not a shot at the wings, we've had many of these moments in Montreal
And ironically the moment when suddenly many fans of other teams who haven’t actually watched said prospect regress think their team should claim him because they remember him being a highly touted prospect years ago.

Canucks say thanks for Zadina being around

In fairness the Flames say thanks for Juolevi being around so shit happens Red Wings fans and that was a poor draft year where players can get overhyped based on that.

If he hasnt done it by now he almost assuredly wont ever in Detroit so probably time to move on. Sometimes players just cant make worthwhile improvements from 18-22 while others are just taking off. Needed another gear from what i've seen

IMO, the criticism that Yzerman may or may not deserve doesn't have to do with drafting Zadina, but how he managed him as an "asset". He should've maybe moved on in the form of a trade after 2 disappointing seasons rather than give him some goofy back loaded contract and roll the dice for a 3rd year.

Not really. Tampa drafted Vasilevskiy with that pick...
Oh I was well aware, just being sarcastic.

That trade still haunts my dreams.

Zadina's trade value was DOA by pretty much 2020, and back loaded contracts were pretty commonplace a year+ ago because players were trying to avoid getting their big money payments until the COVID debt/escrow issue was worked out.

If he makes it to the Canucks they could possibly have 3 draft picks from the Top 10 in the 2018 draft lol

6. Zadina
7. Hughes
9. Kravtsov
Not at 1.8 x 2

we need the space for Podkolzin and Hoglander who are a year younger also to take the step if they can.

Presumably making some cap space / roster space for an acquisition. Maybe DeBrincat? Or maybe they fancy someone still a free agent.

Edit maybe they're after Karlsson?
definitely not looking for Karlsson. Our defense is more or less set at this point unless we are trading one of Maatta/Seider/Chiarot/Walman. Highly doubt it.

Busts happen. It is kinda sucky for the Czechs that 2/3 of that stellar junior line with Zadina-Necas-Kaut ended up busting. That looked like the future along with Chytil. Necas finally looks like blossoming. Chytil is solid but inconsistent. And two nothings at the highest level.

What prevents him from being effective in the NHL?

What worked in junior for him that doesn't now?

Wings fans give some insight to what he does well at this stage?
Miss games, shoot into goalie's logo

It's a shame, really. I've always liked the kid, he tries hard and puts in work, just feel he never got the NHL game. Probably rushed to the NHL.
