When in the world???What is going on with Kapanen? He was an equal replacement for Nylander in Toronto, he started off well in Pitt, then what?

Here’s a sample for you from an old post I made, which is why I’m asking what happened to Kapanen:When in the world???
Stats absolutely do not give the full picture here, Kapanen is a completely different styled player and has at no point been near as good as Willy. Plays would die on his stick so frequently when he played with MatthewsHere’s a sample for you from an old post I made, which is why I’m asking what happened to Kapanen:
Kapanen was on pace for 57 points in the Leafs top 6 while Nylander and Dubas were in the negotiation room. Nylander was a 61 point player in the Leafs top 6 not really better.
After Kapanen was traded:
Kapenen:
47GP, 37 points
64pts/82gp
26 5vs5 points
2.48 p/60
$3,200,000 AAV
Nylander:
59GP, 48 points
66pts/82gp
29 5vs5 points
2.19 p/60
$6,962,366 AAV
Kasperi Kapanen
for
Washington Capitals 2nd.
I would potentially do it, but this is contingent on things like Gagner & Rowney not being re-signed, Soderblom needing a full season or more in the AHL, and (a) guy(s) like Bertuzzi, Suter, Erne being traded away.
Bertuzzi - Larkin - Raymond
Vrana - Copp? - Kapanen
Fabbri - Veleno - Zadina/ Berggren
Rasmussen - Stephens - Sundqvist

Agreed, that is a sticky situation in my mind, I am just thinking about maximizing value because I think getting Kap for a late 2nd at this stage of his career could end up being advantageous, he is only slightly removed from scoring 30 points in 40 games. But I agree with you, if both Zadina and Berggren need a roster spot, it makes sense to stick with those guys and not move assets out in a deal like this. There's no Zadina/Berggren. They're not benching one of them so they can trade a 2nd for Kap unless maybe they're fully expecting Bergy to spend another year in GR which seems doubtful
Add a third and a prospect?
I thought he could skate and carry the puck over the blueline and maybe give the Wings a few more points. You mean Det? I wouldn't spend an asset on Kapanen right now let alone 3 assets. He does nothing for us, as he isn't better than the other wingers we already have and doesn't fill a need.

he may have had a few Nylander tier games here and there but he was never an equal replacementWhat is going on with Kapanen? He was an equal replacement for Nylander in Toronto, he started off well in Pitt, then what?
He was just as productive if not more.Stats absolutely do not give the full picture here, Kapanen is a completely different styled player and has at no point been near as good as Willy. Plays would die on his stick so frequently when he played with Matthews
He's a good 3rd liner imo but there's a reason he got less than half of Nylander's AAV
Would love to hear your explanation of why a team with well known cap issues traded the more productive player making half as much if that were the caseHe was just as productive if not more.
