Laughable to see Sens fans in here running down Detroit goalie woes. You literally had Korpisalo just last year who had multi years left on a bad deal. Husso is in the final year of his deal, was still better than Korp last season and it took an injury for Husso's career to derail. Also have paid Ullmark huge money for what he did with Boston and that could maybe be an albatross deal if he doesn't play well in Ottawa. So maybe worry about your own team instead of jumping into every Wings thread to crap on the Wings.

There is like 4-5 of you and it is like you have nothing better to do than run down the Wings at every chance when the Sens aren't looking great either. Not impugning all Sens fans, just the 4-5 very vocal ones that are non-stop with their BS.

Yzerman sure made some expensive mistakes and goal has been a mess for the Wings in general. Talbots been good but he's almost 40 now right ? A best stopgap until Cossa is ready.

Cossa is likely on the Wings in 1B role next season hence the current contracts they do have expiring to make way for him. People can make fun of the Yzerplan all they want, but the idea was to provide stopgaps while they developed internal talent. He said it would take a long time, most of the players people hate on have a clear identifiable player in the pipeline advancing towards an upgraded roster replacement.

Sorry for Husso, he just could never get healthy again. He was good until the injury, I wish him the best but I do think this is it in Detroit. A large part of that being Cossa is the established 1 in Grand Rapids and needs to be so it isn't like Husso is going to get more than the back to back AHL games to find his game at this point.

Yzerman with his best Jim Benning impersonation.

Yzerman has yet to trade a Top 10 pick for an albatross defensive contract, and Loui Eriksson's dumpster fire contract was one year longer and inflates to over a million AAV more than Copp.

But sure. "Benning level stupidity."

would be suprised if Ville is not claimed there are teams that need goaltending and hope that a change of scenery, team D and a new goalie coach can cure...:)

He went down 3 times last season with a lower body injury and didn't play after mid December.

This is probably not a change of scenery issue. Though Detroit does have an issue of leaving their goalie out to dry.

At this point, the "change of scenery" for Husso is going to be when he signs somewhere else for 1 year at like $1.25M in July.

Yeah, I'd be shocked if anybody picks him up at $4.75M.

I think he's got injury issues that have washed him, but at the end of the day seems like some people wanna turn a blind eye to the fact that Detroit's defense is a poison to goalies.

In the worst stretches of last season they were giving up odd man rushes like candy on Halloween, and blowing their coverage incessantly. That game Petry had against Carolina last March was a highlight reel for why he doesn't belong in the NHL anymore.

Imagine defending the Copp contract because it isn’t as bad as Erikksson’s. It’s still terrible. Justin Holl is another example of a contract that didn’t make sense before the ink even dried. How about Chiarot too? There’s about $10M or more of junk contracts on the Red Wing’s roster this season that could, and should’ve, been better spent. So yea, pretty damn good Benning impersonation.

You right bro. Signing Ben Chiarot to 4 x $4.75M for no assets is the same as trading 9th overall (Dylan Guenther) for OEL with 6 x $8.25M remaining on his contract.

Detroit fans really sweating the Copp/Chiarot contracts while Yzerman is locking up all their core players for under $9M past 2030.

Never suggested it was. Benning was god awful. I said Yzerman was doing his best impersonation of him, which he has with some of his terrible signings. You really, need to work on your reading comprehension bud. The amount of dead cap Yzerman has in a year when there’s a lot of pressure to actually improve and make the playoffs is a bit comical.

You really need to work on not making ignorant comparisons. It was blown out of the water rather swiftly.

By your “well Andrew Copp isn’t as bad as Eriksson” comment? Yea, ok bud. Being even somewhat comparable to Benning is bad enough.

In the same way as an apple is comparable to a chair, yeah I guess.

If this is Yzerman's best impersonation of Benning, his best impersonation kinda sucks. Keep swinging though.

I mean. He was but for a short while and then he cratered. Lets not pretend that Binnington has been great either.

He's been pretty damn good overall, I'd say.

He was a combined like .897 SV% from 21-23. It was definitely not as controversial as your revisionist self-congratulatory post suggests it was

Using Sv% as the sole criteria to judge a goalie is misguided.
