Nope, you could try reading the article... or even watching a game or two.

“He just does so many things well. He protects the puck so well for a small guy, he competes. There’s some times when he’s in a one-on-one battle and I want to come support him and he’s always yelling at me: ‘Don’t come in there, just get open.’ Because you know he’s going to win his battles. He’s doing an incredible job this year.â€

I call huge BS every time someone says he doesn't compete or back check. He's actually very responsible defensively, though not always effective due to his size.

Compete, good one-on-one, responsible defensively.....

This is one play out of thousands but the video actually highlights exactly what I said in my post.

Thank you.

Wouldn't give up a second but would do Read but only for the salary relief. It doesn't make the team better IMO.

Honestly the only way we can get rid of Desharnais is by taking an equally bad contract in return, probably with more term left. No team will take him for even the lowest pick, they want to shed salary in return.

It's sad, but it's just not worth it at this point. Let's slot him at 3C and hope for the best.

Probably your best bet, IMO.

Damn, trading DD for a fourth rounder will be a successful move by Bergevin.

I don't see many takers of DD. And any who are willing to take him are surely not willing to offer much to MB. The conclusion in my view will be waivers and someone takes him off our hands completely or he clears waivers and is sent to AHL. You don't save his entire 3.5M off the cap in that case, but you get most of it off.

No to Matt Read. He's got an extra year, is paid more (a tad little more), and he's just not an upgrade. Don't get why would any Habs fan do this

You get 950k off which is not most of it.

If it's what it takes to get him off the line-up. Sending him to the minors should be last resort if only you can't trade him or if no one picks him up off waivers.

I would avoid buying him out because this season we are still paying Parenteau. And while buying Desharnais will save you more cap space, he will still be on your books next year.

So to me, better off getting 950K off your cap for one year of DD in the minors and save the complete 3.5M next year.

Actually yes I would do Matt Read for DD. Both players need a change of scenery. I'm not a DD fan but he would at least offer some security in case Cousins and Laughton fail as 3C.

I think read has had his day as a top 6 player but he was coming off a significant injury. He will be better and faster next year. I'd only trade him if I am wrong or a player takes his spot.

The Flyers have a 3rd line centre, and his name is Nick Cousins.
Cousins stats are 36GP- 6G-4A-10PTS +5, also Cousins season was split between Lehigh Valley and Philly, so he did not get to play in a full NHL season yet.
Nick has gotten better every season since he's been in the flyers organization.
Once Cousins hits he's full potential he'll be a important piece in the Flyers line up, he just needs to prove himself this season in Philly...

Yeah let's lose every trade because the coach is an idiot

Its a roster problem too, not just Therrien. Desharnais is better suited for offensive game but Habs have barely enough good wingers for Galchenyuk and Plekanec.

If the extra pay is that critical, perhaps a tweak to the deal?

Read & Chris VandeVelde
-for-
Desharnais & Torrey Mitchell

(Disclaimer: I have no idea what you think of Mitchell. He's just a reasonably small contract with an extra year.)

Thought process: Your guys want DD gone. We want to shed the extra year of Read's deal. In order to balance out the deals a bit, we take back Mitchell, to cut down on your cap hit next year, and send you VandeVelde, to free up some space for us to take Mitchell this year.

Probably doesn't address the concerns in the way you'd prefer, and you may prefer to keep DD than to add Read even if we do make some adjustments to smooth out the cap situation (though I gather that's not the unanimous view of your fans) but it might help bridge that gap a little bit.

I like the last one for Canadiens. IT would out Danault into 3rd line C Read and Shaw at wings, with Flynn as 4th line faceoff specialist with VDV and Byron as wingers for PK duty.

Any interest in nick Schultz? Cap is workable also on an expiring deal and is a good pker and servicable depth defenseman.
