Are the rangers the most power play goal heavy team in the league? Seems they don’t score much 5 on 5. Mostly power play goals.

I missed the first two periods live, only saw the third. I just watched the DVR version and overall, there’s definitely things that need tightening but overall we got the two points and were the better team. That’s a trend this year, even when we lost we’ve been outplaying the opponent. That’s definitely a good sign. Some of the loses have stung but the process overall has been good if a bit inconsistent. I see a lot of things that are typical of early season flaws with some sloppiness and lack of attention to detail, things that are gone by the playoffs. Things like KAM and Trouba having miscommunications, after how good they were in last years playoffs overall, I won’t lose sleep with mistakes here and there early in the year. They will be playing their best hockey in may.

Most importantly I was very encouraged with Igor tonight. Playing back to back in an obvious trap game and he had to make quite a few tough saves and he delivered. I thought tonight he looked as close to last season Igor as he has all season so far (minus opening night). He was moving well, tracking the puck well and never looked behind. Good display from him after a couple questionable goals yesterday and a bunch of mediocre performances this year. Best past about it is he’s 5-0-2 even with some inconsistent play.

This team is going to go on a 9-0-1 run or something like that. You can just feel that they’re going to get some bounces and breaks soon and considering how they’ve been outplaying the opposition, that’s going to lead in big time wins.

I have to say again, I love Trocheck. He was the perfect player to bring in as the 2C. I love his game.

I thought Igor's best game by far was against the Avs. I'm not even that mad about his first and only goal that resulted due to a puck misplay in his career. Even though he's one of the best puck handling goalies in the league, he's a goalie not a defenseman. We saw Lindgren have a worse misplay with the puck today.

I don't think Shesty is as bad as people are making it out. He's getting hung out a lot by his defensemen

It's those southeast to northwest passes that have been far too open. below the goal line to the slot.
Agreed. But the D are getting hung out to dry by the forwards just as much. Team is far too loose. But it’s not as obvious how. Specifically, the team is not managing the puck well. We are making lots of unforced errors and turnovers that are allowing opponents to counter, create extended pressure, and get very high percentage chances.

Sam and Joe talked about how the PP goal in the 2nd period gave the Coyotes momentum. But they were wrong. The momentum started shifting minutes earlier because we made some poor plays with the puck that led to increased D zone time. Look, no team is perfect. Turnovers happen. Coughing up the puck under pressure happens but if the team has a tighter structure and everyone is more disciplined when it comes to getting pucks out and getting them deep, then so much of what ails the team will go away.

It’s no mistake that we gave up both goals in the 2nd due to the long change. The costliness of the turnovers were making are compounded due extended shifts.

Right now when we turn picks over the chances we give up are far too dangerous. Not only are we trying to make the extra move or make a finesse play in dangerous parts of the ice, but the guys without the puck are going into Harlem globetrotter mode too often. They’re oft on the wrong side of the puck.

Beyond that, there are few things harder for a goalie than facing fewer shots but a higher percentage of high danger shots within that. That’s asking quite a bit of your goalies.

The worst culprits tonight when it came to poor puck management were Kreider, Miller, Laffy and I think Vesey. They made multiple poor plays with the puck and without that led to extended defending. But they far from the only ones. We are playing a style of hockey right now where we are getting in our own way. Were playing fast, hard, skilled, creative and borderline dumb.

Speaking of which I liked our bottom 6 overall. I liked Blais a lot for first time all year. Bottom 6 Played a simpler hard nosed style and battled really well.

And one thing on Schneider/Jones. It’s interesting that Jones sits when that unit struggles but I feel like Schneider has seemed more erratic than Jones as a whole

Schneider had a few great plays defensively. Stronger game from him

It'd be nice to get Chytil back next game.

Maybe it's time to try some different pairs?

KAM Fox
Lindgren/Jones Trouba
Lindgren Jones Schneids
I was thinking I’d like to see Trouba Jones. I think KAM Schneider could work too.

Our schedule has been so weird so far bunch of games with multiple days of rest in-between and then multiple back to backs.

Even the west coast trip in November is dumb. We are off from 11-14 to 11-16. Play at Seattle on the 17th, off 18th, play at San Jose on the 19th. Off 20 and 21, The B2B on the 22nd and 23rd in LA/Anaheim, and then off 24/25 for Thanksgiving lol.

True re:West Coast swing. But even that AZ back-to-back on the 11-13 (flying back from Nashville) is unnecessary and thus fkkd up. Coyotes wouldn’t be headed to Vegas for a couple of days. Could’ve easily scheduled that as a Monday game.

(Unless Billy Joel or Hairy Styles already booked that night)

Winning ugly? We out shot and outchanced them heavily. Yes, we had too many tunonvers in our D zone, and our NZ was a sieve for most of the game, but despite that we were the dominant team. 5-2 looks better than 3-2, but we took it to them for most of the game.

Laf turned the puck over along the boards every time a Coyote player glanced at his way. "Yes sir, here you go sir, so sorry sir"

Yeah I thought in general we played pretty well. The score line flattered Arizona. We did have too many defensive breakdowns but otherwise, I didn't have any complaints. If they keep creating chances the way they are, more goals will come. Also, the second Arizona goal was a fluke more than anything. This game felt more like a 5-1 game to me honestly.

We're 21st in GF/60 at ES but 8th in xGF60, with the 28th ranked shooting percentage.
We're all talking about the problem. How is it going to get better, though? We're 10 games in, that's about 1/8th of the season.

It's not abnormal for team to shoot in garbage luck for the entire season and there isn't much you can do about it.

Goalies have stood on their heads against us this year and I don't think that's anything we're doing. If we were making it easy on them, we would be registering fewer shots and chances.

I don't think goalies who have stood on their heads against us but who have no other correlation to each other across the league will simultaneously not stand on their heads against us. Which is to say, we need to shoot better. I don't have the answers. But Panarin should shoot more, that would be a start. Laf should focus on shooting instead of trying to be the Next Great Playmaker, emulating Panarin.

Laf needs to adjust his game to be a shooter. Scored one tonight but could have had a couple more.
Monkey see, monkey do. Many fancy themselves to be good passers, watching the "elite" like Mika and the Breadman daily, its no wonder they try and do what THEY do. And, they don't wanna be looked at as "selfish".
I really hope that's NOT a thing, because the bottom line is putting the puck in the net (duh), if you have a good scoring chance TAKE IT, it doesn't always have to be highlight reel, like those nice touch passes by Kreider and Mika on Sat. afternoon.

The Rangers are shooting 13.94% on high-danger chances this year. Over the last three years combined, we shot 18.35% on high-danger chances.

Maybe we need to shoot better but over a ten-game sample, there's really no reason that happens other than the universe decided it's happening.

You can't get led around by happenstance. We've been good and I wouldn't change our game trying to overcorrect.

Schneider started getting randomly really aggressive and assertive tonight with his stick, especially on his own blue line. And it generally worked. Interesting development for sure.
They ALL were hitting everyone in sight. Thought I was watching 70's NHL. What did they have 40+ hits? Wow.

Is Panarin aging into Wallace Shawn?
He's like......"I know that Draisaitl guy, but who's that BRAT ahead of me?
