we need some tuffness on our team that can play more than 8 minutes. Perhaps not now, but playoff hockey requires it! Polak is flawed but adds an important ingredient to the team now. It would be great his flaws out but we need a power forward to get us to the ultimate goal
!!!!

He can take awful penalties and completely suck 5v5 but you just can't get enough toughness

Being better than the other team is overrated

I'm not exactly sure. I'll look in to it but I suspect it's a good deal better than that.
Thanks. Please post it as I'm curious to know because I am a polak supporter for many reasons and maybe I'm biased and that could sway my thoughts

Do me a favour. Go back and look at how slow the Leafs were vs. Colorado and vs. Vegas and compare that to their team speed vs. Arizona and Tampa (the game before and after).

And while you're at it, look at the Vegas game and how many times Polak's passes were picked off.
Add that to the amount of minor penalties Polak takes and its clear that Polak is losing us games.

Just do that and you'll be convinced.

And please don't appeal to the authority of his 600 games played without recognizing that no one has offered Polak a contract for the past 2 years other than the Leafs.

Carrick is only slightly better than Polak when it comes to differential in penalties taken vs drawn. Just like he’s only slightly better than Polak 5v5. Except Polak can kill penalties.

“But how can he PK when he’s always in the box LOLLLL!!!1!11” :eyeroll:

A corsi for percentage better than 43 would be a start as would a cf% rel and ff% rel better than -8.

It is quite interesting seeing people crap on a 23 year old defenseman who has shown the ability to put up above average possession numbers over a valid sample size.

He's younger than Calle Rosen.

Some Leaf fans expect every player to play at All Star level every shift. Some Leaf fans are dumb as a bag of rocks.

At least he plays with an edge, gives 100% every shift, if he is put in protected situations like bottom pairing he is usually effective.

Shot based metrics have less correlation to a winning team than goal based metrics.

He added to his penalties/60 to make up for it

What a pro
I don't know if he penalties are up this year tbh
I know you were dead sure that the change in the rules would spell his end in that regard bit he adjusted his game well for the new rule.
I also feel son of the calls he gets are for being toI strong along the boards. 9 out of 10 times he does the same thing to break up a cycle of get the puck from a player with no call. It's just the odd time the player goes flying and the whistle blows.
That's not to say he hasn't taken a bad penalty but it happens to a lot of players

I think the stats I used were all situations.

For a guy on the team for his PK ability (which is overrated by the way) it's completely unacceptable he's taking over a minute a game in penalties

If he's a liability 5v5 (which he is) what the hell is he actually doing on this team?

I'm still waiting for the proof he's a liability 5v5
I see him make less mistakes than Carrick Marincin and even Gardiner
He is not as skilled as those players but he is good at his job

Yep even 40 games in.

Regardless of correlation with future results, it's well documented that defensemen have little to no impact on goalie save percentage (for or against), so to suggest they should be examined on goal metrics instead of shot metrics is... odd.

Almost all metrics will show Polak, Hansey, Zaitsev suck. I can manipulate the stats to show Hainsey is one of the worst d.men in the league
