First day to waive players is Friday correct?

Logic would think that we waive, Asham and/or Pyatt before we resign Stepan.

We have 2.9 right now, available? Correct?

He'll likely settle on a 3.3 per year contract. My guess. Have to wait until Fri/Sat.

wave goodbye to pyatt, please, god. And, if that's all true, than I hope that's the case and Setpan will sign then.

Matt Oates from O2K Sports Management.

T.J. Oshie is another one of his clients and he seemed to work out a reasonable 1-year bridge deal with the Blues a few years back for $2.35M before getting a 5 year, roughly $21M deal.

Similar players, same agent, am I missing something here?

BIG diffrence between giving a kid a 2-year bridge as opposed to a 1-year bridge deal.

If anything, that is an indication that Oates will fight hard to avoid a 2-year bridge.

In Y2 in TJ Oshies scenario, his cap hit is 2m more compared to the situation had the bridge year been 2 years. 2m is alot of money for one player.

Pyatt wore an "A" last night. Not to say he is ever going to wear one during the season, but obviously this coaching staff sees him differently than most posters do.

That is very fortunate. If the coaching staff saw him the way most of HFNYR does, the maintenance staff would find him hung from the rafters at MSG after being suspiciously "missing" for a week.

Exactly right. When the checking gets tighter, the game more physical and there is less space to operate, a small, soft player like Stepan is going to struggle in the playoffs more often than not.

Without Step this team doesn't make any playoffs. Last year or next. He is the best C this team has. 8 years 50 million is my contract. Let's Sather take a bridge deal for himself. Sather could buy Richards out in order to pay for Richards replacement. Instead Sather wants to have it both ways:keep Richards and Stepan. If so tell Brad to pay a few of his unearned millions to Derek under the table. He did the job Richards could not and I can bet will not do.

When do you expect Stepan to sign?

Katie Strang (2:11 PM)

Hard to tell, Alex, but I think he will ultimately be in camp within the next week, possibly joining the Rangers out West. Rangers GM Glen Sather told me last week that Stepan is prepared to take a two-year bridge deal, so that's a significant step. The two sides are still trying to close the gap on money, but at least they are not fighting on term. Stepan is a competitive guy; this has to be really hard for him to endure. Plus, with the emergence of training camp surprise Oscar Lindberg maybe that puts a little extra pressure on Stepan to come to an agreement soon. Dubinsky's holdout lasted eight days in 2009. Stepan is at that threshold as of today

Step will leave a few millions on the table, if agrees to 2-year deal. He is better than Dubi by a mile. Sather wants him to take 1 million less he gave to Dubinski.

One of the things I love about HF:

Players can't play because they were locked out=Greedy owners!
Players can't play because they're holding out for more money=Greedy owners!

Now he's not on the roster anymore... I'm sure he's shaking in his skates. That'll change things real quick.
Not really. This team goes nowhere w/o Stepan. Lindberg is huge? Wait 10 games and he may become another Miller. Sather cannot take such a risk. at minimum he must promise an extension in Jan 2015 or even sooner should Richards be bought out next summer. Stepan must prove nothing to effect his well known value. He should only gain some weight. The rest is there.

6.25 a year for 8 years? Based on 40 games of really solid play? He'll be Richards part 2 at that point.

You need to get your facts straight. As usual.

Dubinsky signed a 2 year, 3.7M bridge deal after his holdout.

It's been reported that Sather's offered Stepan about 3.2M per year, for 2 years.

So, no. You're wrong. As usual. Sather is offering Stepan close to double more than Dubinsky.

And the Rangers could be offering a contract looking to pay him had the cap gone down further.

If we assume that Stepan is asking 3.8 per, pure speculation on my part based on the report that he wanted more than Matt D got in Colorado, logic tells me that Sather and the Rangers came in at a number significantly under 3 million per. And since I look at a few hundred thousand dollars as significant I can see the Rangers initial offer in the 2.75k to 2.85k range.

Someone above stated that he should sign the 3.2-3.3 per year bridge deal, yet we have no idea if that has ever been laid on the table by the Rangers.

I would agree that if plated, Stepan SHOULD accept 3.25 per. We don't know WHAT has been offered.

But I have no problems if Stepan tried as hard as he could to get north of 3.5. I'd have no issues with that at all.

The Rangers are not an unfair organization. Stupid sometimes, maybe. Unfair, no.

Initial offer, prior to Kadri signing, may have been in that 2.7 range. There is absolutely no way they can offer anything lower than 3 mil at this point.

The offer is probably between 3.0-3.3 and stepan is asking for probably above 4 mil.

I did not mean Dubi's bridge, but last contract. Dubi was best C out of farm before Stepan (Anisimov was not established really).

Waivers begin 12 days prior to the start of the regular season which begins on Tuesday October 1. Tomorrow is 12 days prior. Jeff Gorton was asked about Powe and Asham on August 8 when he spoke to the media at Yankee Stadium. Both players will need to clear waivers again if the Rangers plan to send them to the AHL or they want to shed the contract.

You can't be serious....
