Do we see a Mateychuk - Jiricek pairing?
I hope he replaces Clayton. Three LD-RD pairings looks more balanced on paper, Bjork wouldn't have to play on his off side anymore.

Svozil-Jiricek
Mateychuk/Zboril-Bjork
Mateychuk/Zboril-Sweezey

Honestly he probably won't get too much time right away, he'll have to earn his time coming in so late with no chemistry with anyone there in such a high pressure situation. If he comes in and obviously better, it's a little different but it'll be interesting to see how much the staff trusts him right away.

Id like him with Sweezey I think

A Mateychuk-Jiricek pair as proposed earlier would be way too chaotic at this point

I hope he gets some playing time, they could certainly use a boost right now. However, being down 0-2 in a best of 5 is a tough place to insert a new guy.

BTW - I'm feeling really good about that Mateychuck signed/worn CBJ preseason jersey I picked up for <$300 (already up to ~$400). It was certainly a much better deal than the $5k Fantilli game worn jersey.

Pretty sure the ECF is a 7 game series, like the Calder Cup. Only the early rounds were 5 games.

Aside from 1 game I've only seen him in highlights this year so can't really speak at length about the progress he's made, but at least it's encouraging to see him do an offensive play that some time ago he only could have pulled off against junior players:

He had a slap shot onetimer goal vs Rochester, that's pretty rare for him:

I still think at some point he should try playing with different sticks like Werenski ended up doing. It's hard to imagine him as an NHL PP point man with that long paddle looking thing that seems to slow all puck movement down.

He’s the highest scoring D in the AHL rn

There is no rush on Mateychuk. Leave him in Cleveland. Let him learn how to be the big dog in professional hockey. Trade Provorov in late Jan or Feb. Then bring up Mateychuk and see how he does. He can play 25ish games in the NHL. Send him down at the end of the season and let him go on a playoff run with the Monsters. Next year he can play full time in the NHL. Clearly communicate the plan to him.

We are not going to the playoffs this season. #1 goal should be stable and proper development of guys like Mateychuk, Brindley, and LDBB.

I wanted to give you two thumbs up for this post...but I'm restricted to just one.
