Like it has been said....we can't keep them all. I will be very surprised if Ylonen is a Hab on opening night. I hope he is but I doubt it.
Why do you think Ylonen is getting moved?

It's disgusting to see Paul get a beating like that, could have ended much worse too. Did we even have 1 guy brave enough to tell Paul "you're not fighting this guy Paul, avoid him, I'm fighting him" and then go up to buddy and tell him "If you want to hit Paul with a clean hit during the game that's fine but you're not fighting him you're fighting me".
I don't recall, would have to pull up the game sheet.

I personally like him and I think he has an intriguing skill set. With all of the wingers healthy come opening night, where will he fit in?
I am a huge Ylonen fan, not many are it seems.

I know we will try to move Hoffman, Eddy, and probably Armia as well.

Without any trades, this is our depth:
Caufield / Suzuki / Anderson
Slaf / Dach / Hoffman
RHP / Dvorak / Gallagher
Farrell / Evans / Armia
* Heineman, Ylonen, Pitlick, Roy, Pezzetta, Mysak, Mesar, Kidney, etc

Matheson / Xhekaj
Guhle / Savard
Harris / Barron
* Eddy, Kova

So, how many roster spots do we want to open up? Most of the younger ones will be in the AHL but guys like RHP, Heineman, Ylonen are NHL ready. Farrell might be as well cause he don't look out of place at the moment.

Yeah we'll see how management sees it.

I know how I see it:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Gurianov - Dach - Farrell/Heineman (room for 2 of Gurianov, Farrell, and Heineman, one can be sent to Laval. There will be injuries. Many of them)
RHP - Dvo/Dubois/Dvo upgrade - Anderson
Gallagher - Evan's - Ylonen
Pez
14th forward or Laval: Belzile, Pitlick, Armia.
Traded with 50% retained or bought out: Hoffman

Although I have Ylonen starting on the 4th line, it's a good line, and really 3rd line quality. And, after spending 3 full years in the minors until he was no longer waiver exempt, Plekanec started off on the 4th line in his first full year in the NHL - behind guys like Perezhogin and Higgins that he eventually proved better than.

I'm fine with sending Armia to Laval or having him and Pez be 13th and 14th forwards to open up 1 roster spot for Ylonen or Heineman. I think Hoffman can be traded at 50% retained or bought out to open up the other.

Problem solved. At any rate, we'll see what moves Hughes makes in the offseason. Chances are there will be moves.

Really hope Slaf starts in the AHL. With the talk from Vinny earlier it seems like they won't which I think is dumb but we'll see.

I doubt they move Ylonen though. We've stuck it out with him for so long and he's showing some things in the bigs. Too skilled to give up on him.

I'm 75% sure Gurianov is gone in the summer. Too many young wingers in the organization that will need the ice time, and some vets that will be played through their contacts. I don't see a player in Gurianov that they're going to try really hard to keep, but they might give him a short term offer on a cheap contract based on risk.

I'm pretty sure Ylonen stays. He's taken a big step this year, and I can see more headroom in his game to grow. He's still blooming as far as I can tell.

I don't, Evans Dvorak Gallagher and Armia are still there
Ok Gurianov versus Armia is a different story than Gurianov versus RHP and Ylonen.

Here's what I would do:

Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf
Gurianov - Dach - Farrell/Heineman
RHP - Dvo - Anderson
Gallagher - Evans - Ylonen (looked great 2 nights ago together)
Pez, Armia

One of Farrell, Heineman, or Gurianov start off in Laval. They need to play.

(and if we get Dubois, I move out Dvo for salary purposes and because I want an upgrade over him as 3c anyways. We have a lot of offensive wingers that need to play with a play driver. Going Suzuki-Dach-Dubois-Evans up the middle would be just what the doctor ordered).

Yeah but id like to Heineman and Farrell to get a bit more time in the AHL.
(if we keep same line up) . and we forgot Hoffman lolll

If Farrell and Heineman get AHL time, then there's definitely room for Gurianov and Hoffman.

I'd move Hoffman in the offseason though in case Heineman and or Farrell are ready. Belzile and Armia can start in the NHL if they aren't.

I don't think they are gonna extend Belzile unless it's a 2 way.
(if no trades were to happen)

Suzuki ,Anderson , Gallagher , Caufield , Hoffman , Dvorak , Armia , Dach , Gurianov , Evans , Pitlick , Farrell , Ylonen , Drouin , RHP , Pezzeta , Tierney , Belzile Slafkovsky and Heineman

That's 20 forwards
Remove Drouin , Pitlick , Bezile and Tierney and we are still at 16.

(not actual line but showing ''vets or sure shot kids to make it'')
Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson
Slaf-Dach-Hoffman
Gurianov-Dvorak-Gallagher
Ylonen-Evans-Armia

RHP , Pezz , Heineman and Farrell are still out there.

I think I would give Gurianov spot and give it to RHP and also save money.
That leaves 3 , and you put Pezz as 13th forward.

Farrell and Heineman are kinda AHL bound

We also have 9 d-men

I guess we could Dump Wideman and probably Kovacevic but a kid would still not be playing.

We also gotta be careful of contracts remaining. I really wonder if it's gonna be a firesale this summer or we just give some picks to give Armia and Hoffman to someone else. That would give us 2 good spots.

Like Gurianov is turning 26 , on pace for 22-23 points season.

RHP and Ylonen are already more productive and are better overall on the ice.

I think it was a nice gamble since we traded him for Dadonov but I just dont see it on a top 9 in the future and he's not a 4th line type of player.

If you take your list of 16 players that you took down from 20, and just remove Armia (sent to Laval) and Hoffman (traded or bought out) then we're down to the requisite 14 forwards.

If Heineman and Farrell aren't NHL ready, we're down to 12, but Belzike and Pitlick can be called up.

For me I'd rather play Gurianov over Armia and Hoffman. But I think MSL sees it differently. So it's up to Hughes to move Hoffman and send Armia down.

But either way, we need an upgrade at center on Dvo to play with our young offensive wingers on that "3rd line." PLD would be perfect. He could play with RHP and Anderson.

I'm not as quick to get rid of Gurianov as some here..

We know he needs to grow his game. That isn't the question. The question is: can he grow his game?

And that will take some time. So we'll see if our management team is willing to invest that time.

I say with his tools (size, shot, speed), he is worth to take a flyer on.
