did tocchet actually say he was benched for performance? or did he just say he went with the players that he thought could win it?

because maybe, knowing jt’s head was somewhere else, he was just being tight-lipped knowing something was going on behind the scenes to not have to divulge something the player didn’t want him divulge?

Clearly something wasn't right.

Speculation initially was an injury. While that may still be the case to a certain degree, there is clearly more to it.

But thankfully they are not trying to "just let it sort itself out" and he can focus on what he needs to truly deal with whatever it is.

Time for others to step up. EP-Suter-Blueger-Raty down the middle for now.

Get well JT.

All the things that come to mind are terrible. Damn. I hope somehow for JT's sake that it all gets sorted out quickly.

Like everyone else, wishing JT and family the best in whatever it is they are dealing with.

On the team front, I don't know any team that can lose their top goal scorer, their top centre, and their top goaltender, and be competitive long term.

That’s the season. Sell assets. Let Demko and Brock rest.
No additions until they know where they stand. This is the reality of the sports world. Things can change on a dime, especially with players taking personal time to deal with off ice matters.

Canucks really don't have much in terms of UFA. Boeser, Suter, Forbert, Juhlson, Brannstrom, Lankinen, If the NHL gms get confirmation of the cap going from what most expected at $92.5 mill to $95 mill, they may be more willing to add someone with term for next season.

But, going to be a challenge for the canucks without Miller, Boeser, Demko.

i'm usually not very sympathetic to injury excuses for poor team performance but if the canucks lose demko to a weird knee thing, boeser to a concussion and miller to a long term injury you can't really expect much from this roster

I’m not going to comment on what’s going on with JT. I hope he gets the help he needs and overcomes whatever he’s dealing with.

That being said, interesting the narrative post game was that JT could handle the benching, whereas someone like Petey wouldn’t be able to cope with it. When you look at it temporally, it seems like the benching was the tipping point and it makes you wonder if Tocchet really has as great an insight in to the psyche of his players as we all think he does.

I am getting serious 2007-08 vibes about this season. After an unexpectedly good year that marked the team's re-emergence as a contender, expectations are high and nothing ever quite gets settled... the early results are okay but lacking something, then injuries hit and the wheels fall off.

Just feels a bit too familiar.
I thought the same the other day. I remember in training camp Luongo saying something along the lines of wishing he could "skip the regular season and get right back to the playoffs".

I’m hoping this fan base establishes itself as the best fan base out there, we love our team and our players, we’ve been accused of negativity, destroying our own city, being hated on….I think it’s time this narrative changes, we’ve been through a lot and the love of this team is what keeps a lot of us going….whatever is going on with Miller we’ve got your back

You could easily look at it in reverse with Tocchet knowing JT is going through something and that given his play last game, his head wasn’t in the game enough to be playing.

Given how Tocchet got almost all the core guys to play at career best levels last year, I’m personally going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he’s doing, but each to their own.

Wow. JT is the type of guy that would play with a broken leg and not complain about it, the medical staff couldn’t even convince him to take a game off when he was injured, I hope everything is OK with JT & his family, thoughts & prayers going out to the Miller family, hope JT returns soon he’s our best forward and is the heart & soul of this franchise.

Dhaliwal reported on blue sky that its about a player that needs a "re-set"
Just saw that. Patrick Johnston said something similar.

If so, that’s good to hear it’s not something even more serious.

I think that’s reasonable, but I think the only thing arguing against this line of thinking is how blunt he was in his post game interview. I don’t think he would have thrown JT under the bus with the “I played the guys who I thought would help us win” comment. If he knew JT was dealing with something, you probably answer that in a different way.

EP really has to step up as an emotional leader at this point for the team, rather than being only an occasional offensive dynamo. I realize it's not his personality, but he can still lead with his play and effort. At the level of the forwards, Miller has been carrying this team emotionally for too long, dragging them into the battle so many times (not so much this year though). EP can do that on the ice; we need this player to be assertive, focused, and making others around him better, rather than simply putting up stats once in awhile.

Wonder how the relationship is between Miller and Tocchet.

Either way, wish him and family the best. It's a long season - adversity can be a blessing - sometimes.
