Ritchie - 2.5M

Kerfoot - 3.5M

Mikheyev - 1.65M (UFA)

Holl - 2M

Mrazek - 3.8M

To me, these are all guys that can be replaced internally to fit Mo and Campbell’s next contracts in. Curious if there are any trade scenarios that would work with the above players. Leafs could use some sandpaper and scoring from the left wing

while I agree, "dead money" would apply to something like the Kessel cap hit. not a player that contributes.

although Ritchie is getting mighty close these days.

Dead money is a bit rough, but I agree that all these players are not worth their contacts (with the possible exception of Holl despite his tough start).

Trade them all & get back our 2022 3rd,4th,5th,6th Round picks back.

Ritchie - 2.5M - Him and a pick to Buff for Collin Miller with small retention

Kerfoot - 3.5M- Hold him until the offseason

Mikheyev - 1.65M (UFA) move at the TD if he isn't in the top six

Holl - 2M- Only trade him if we have a better option/ injury replacement ( would like a trevor moore/Lemieux from LA)

Mrazek - 3.8M - limited NTC so finding a trade that he likes maybe hard as Buff,Ari and Chi will be the teams looking to add a tender

Kerfoot is fine enough at that amount if he's playing wing in the top six. I don't know that Holl is definitively going to be the #7 moving forward just yet. Mrazek will be pricey if and when Campbell signs a new contract here. I very much doubt he can be replaced via internal options though. The only worry might be at forward when Mikheyev is ready to return. I'd prefer Mikheyev to Ritchie in some aspects, namely on the cap and in PK ability. However, Mikheyev is a pending UFA and I wouldn't really like to trade away Ritchie at a loss.

You want to trade an UFA, that is "dead money", so we can fit in contracts for next year? Somehow, that doesn't make sense.

You want to trade Kerfoot, and Mik... to find scoring from the LW? So, trade our offense from the LW, and somehow, find more offense, at a lower cap hit? Ok... how?

I thought this thread was about me playing poker.
I thought he was talking about me betting on the ponies , lol .

I wouldn't lump Mik in with the others however , he'll be at least worth his cap hit once he comes back .

It would seem that we need to replace an number of our lower cost players with even lower cost players in order to keep paying the rich.

A microcosm of capitalism in general?

Ritchie has been a nightmare, I completely agree.

I haven't been entirely impressed with Kerfoot on the wing, but I don't hate it either, seems he maybe getting a bit of chemistry with Tavares and Marner, I'd give him a longer leash.

Mikheyev hasn't played yet this season, he shows promise in every facet of the game but finishing, I'm hoping he puts it together when he gets back.

Holl has been a blackhole and I was never sold on him, always preferred Lil.

As for the backup, he got injured early, but after Jack carries the team again he'll be traded for a cheaper backup to give Jack more money next year.

I doubt they can all be replaced internally. I'm pretty sure Holl and Kerfoot cannot be replaced internally. We have no one behind Mrazek who can step into a backup role. No one who can reasonably step into a bottom pairing role in case of injury (instead of Holl). Kerfoot brings a ton of versatility to those middle two lines and he is extremely mobile. Does Anderson replace him? Semyonov? either would seem more suited for a 4th line role. You could argue for Duszak or Menell but those are big question marks. Ritchie's been invisible most of the year but players like him become much more valuable in the playoffs where different hockey is played.

Also, if you're arguing that they are at replacement-level, then you surely cannot also think they have trade value.

The threads get worse daily... Kerfoot and Mikheyev are worth their contracts.

Holl I won't be giving up on after 8 games, and he is a nice depth option.

Ritchie looks more at place on the 4th line, but is overpaid for what he is bringing so far.

Mrazek has not played enough for me to judge.

Your overall assessment of things is horrible.

Mo's contract is basically accounted for, and how about we revisit the players that need to go at season's end to fit in Campbell's new contract.

Also, just curious to hear what LWs are available that have scoring and are a sandpaper type player who will fit under our cap and not require a significant return. Wilson? Tkachuk? Marchand?

that's really not how capitalism works.

It sort of is IMO. Except we're not replacing low cost people with different lower cost people, those people just get paid less and thus become lower cost versions of themselves.

Please explain how Kerfoot is dead money? He has 5 points and fits in well with JT-Marner. I think 3.5 is a bit steep for him but LW/C who can PK and put up some points isn't what I would call 'dead money.'

I agree that Ritchie is a waste of cap right now. Kessel's cap would fit the definition of 'dead cap.'

Add $1.2 million Kessel
Add $1 million if the cap goes up as expected
