Davidson's Performance Evaluation Thread (read OP)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Forget the whole trade for a second. And forget contracts too. I'm just curious from a hockey standpoint what you guys think. If we assume McKenna, Stenberg, and Reid go 1,2,3, would you guys rather have Carels or Malhotra than Byram?

Pure hockey standpoint he's obviously an immediate upgrade but you can't assess this kind of trade that way. It really depends what the extension comes in at. If it's reasonable then I'd take Byram but still not love adding on to get him. If it's a bad contract that threatens the future health of the cap sheet I'd probably rather have the younger guy with more team control.

Yeah, I'm out.

The Byram trade is the kind of perfect storm of overpayment, poor talent evaluation, and complete lack of understanding of where your team stands that it completely undermines any faith in the rebuild going forward.

I was behind KD because he was showing patience and commitment to a plan. Even if I didn't agree with particular choices like Lev over Demidov, they still fell within the bounds of the long-term vision for this build.

You were a canes fan even before this trade.

By adding a 25 year old?

No you weren’t lmfao you were marking out for every other team but this one.

You were glazing teams that only drafted forwards LeMao

I would've gone Malhotra. Love me a potential 2-way power forward pivot and I feel we need more forward help rather than help on defense.

Carels I could see becoming something similar to Byram, more D, less O, but similar caliber of player.

Carels then Malhotra, both over Byram

mainboard thread about KD gotta be some of the dumbest shit posted about Hawks in a bit...you'd think he sold everything for Byram...the #1 pipeline, the 3 1sts in 27....Frondell...etc etc...just a brutal thread

People do realize GMs will not be announcing what moves they’re working on or looking into right? Davidson could do something massive tomorrow and he won’t be saying shit.

They just love Kantserov a lot and want him to know it.

I refuse to even go there. I know it'll piss me off to the point where I'll say something to get suspended/banned.

HELL no.

Carels is an unknown that could take years to develop. Malhotra is another young C and we already are rolling Bedard/Frondell/Nazar down the middle with Moore and Greene also.

We needed offense and skill on the back end that was NHL ready.

Like others have said its just disheartening and exhausting to keep having the same roundabout conversations after our GM decides to do something unconventional/risky.

- Lev over Demidov
- playing Korchinski in the NHL way too early
- giving up value to trade up in the 2024 draft before even knowing what players were going to fall
- This trade

Even smaller things like Boisvert in general, somehow not finding a skill winger for Bedard in 3 first rounds since 2023, not getting anything at the TDL for Donato when Beauvillier went for a 2nd, missing out on small, low risk deals for players like Zegras/Chinakov/Samoskevich

KD has his own vision and he's way too reckless and tunnel visioned in his pursuit of it. He overvalues his own prospects. He made comments last year that "you can't win with players like Ehlers and Marner". The arrogance is just unearned and unproven, and I think its possible he's just going to keep bleeding assets and value everywhere until its too late
