My goodness. The attitude of a lot of fans in here disgusting me. Reinbacher is proud to wear the Habs jersey. He is a Habs and we kept talking about Mitchkov who is now a Flyers. Why don't we support our players?
What’s with the media running that photo of Reinbacher with his jersey half pulled on?

That photo is pathetic.

I wasn't a fan of this pick but the more I read, the more I see, this is possibly a huge win for the Habs. I look forward to seeing him at various camps this summer.

I am concerned with Guhle and his ability to stay healthy. Hopefully he gets stronger over the summer.

Yeah...

Just look at Tampa and how important their D corps is (or any other contender as an example).

Sergachev, Hedman, eat up a TON of minutes and are just sooooo important....

Hell... look how important Montour and Gudas were... Piet, the list goes on..

Well, if we can replicate their formula to a T, we’re all set. Eazy, peazy.
We are headed there: heavy, mobile, offensively savvy D being the centerpiece. The kind that can make a goalie look very good while stifling opposing shots as well as jumping into offensive plays. Similar to other perennial contenders like Carolina.

Edit: I also think this kind of defense could transform a pedestrian set of forwards into a much more potent offense, as a result of much better outlet passes, turbocharged PP, more 4 on 3's, and more overtime points.

It happens every draft year. There are consensus rankings and someone rises quicker or falls further than the rankings can track, to the point where they are in a new tier. People get fixated on the old rankings and trust them too much and don't see the fluidity of the draft, and the riser is seen as a reach and the faller is seen as great value.

Reinbacher is the same tier prospect as Michkov. He's just a different flavor. Like Will Smith. Nobody is rioting over Will Smith over Michkov, but I would prefer Michkov to Smith and Reinbacher to Smith.

I dont know what everybody talking about. The sequence still on youtube. French media build a story about his reaction after being picked when in fact, the english staff from sportsnet interviewed him right away when he barely left his seat and try to hug his mother, so he has to hug everybody and answer questions during his walk to the podium.

If David needs to be protected, its from media themselves and this Sportsnets dude. If something is pathetic, its the way media need to ask question when a boy has his mother in their arms. That hug will never happen twice. Thats a precious for a hockey mom to not need to be share.

Since Habs picked Reinbacher, I really like the idea of having him in the system. Yeah ok, before the pick I wanted Benson, Leonard or Michkov. But with some my favorite guys about prospects in Hfboards @WeThreeKings and @Goldenhands who really liked Reinbacher and when I asked if he can have the same impact of a Moritz Seider, they say yes he can. I would be very happy to grab that type of D for Habs. So by the end of the day, I'm very happy with this pick. Guhle - Reinbacher have same qualities, they are stud D to me. Hutson will have great strong D with him... that's such a great news for the future of this team. Hutson is a star potential and adding a big two-way D like Reinbacher, will help his development.

100% fine with this pick. Newhook and Reinbacher? that's really really good job by Hughes, i'm a big fan of Newhook and he believe that he is going to be a solid top 6 forward for this team!
I fully understand the fans who wanted an impact foward out of this draft. But there was IMO a big drop after Carlsson, Fantilli and the other fowards came with more risks or red flags. Reinbacher might not be a sexy pick, but Seider wasnt either and everyone was laughing at Yzerman when he "reached" for him 6th OV in a strong draft. Now everyone loves Seider and would pick him top 3 in a re-draft.

Reinbacher is on an impressive upward trajectory curve, the floor is high, the celling is high and Im pretty sure they wouldnt have drafted him if they didnt believe in his celling, which one is a top all situations RD IMO. Personally I wouldnt have pushed for him if I thought his celling was limited.

This is the same staff who passed on Wright last year to end up with one of the most amazing Habs drafts we have seen in years. Guys like Slafkovsky, Engstrom, Hutson, Beck, Mesar is an incredible haul, thinking otherwise would be pretty naive at this point IMO.

So why not chill out a bit, have more trust in our hockey men and give our kids a chance to develop instead of crapping on them because they were not YOUR own favorites?

Im kinda bored to read all that shit when it comes to our kids, real fans should stand behind them and give them a chance to succeed. Imagine that 18 yrs old kid reading all this crap, that hate after being drafted top 5 by the top titled franchise in hockey history, in what should be one of the best moments of his life.

Shame on you.

@KevSkillz4 Sorry it was not directed to you, you are a nice poster over here and rallly to our kids, you see the bright side of the things all the times and I respect you for that. There was nothing wrong in wanting a top rated foward at 5th OV.

And Cam Allen was the #1 rated defender for 2023 at this point last year. How exactly did that turn out? Lots can happen in a year.
Also the top two projected players for next year's draft are both forwards that we got to see in the WU18 and are expected to battle neck and neck next season. That could change as well. Development of teenagers is always a great unknown.

I'm amazed how many are so upset about our 1st round pick after this year's playoffs where mobile Dmen over 6feet tall really showed their value in achieving playoff success.

Well their Director of scouting is out of a job, so maybe he can come over...

This is where a rich team like the Habs has to outspend other teams, where this expenditure does not count against the cap. Especially on the heels of a draft where a top forward slides past them because they didn't bother to see him live, or so they say.

Everyone is toxic on social media.

The difference compared to some other teams, is we actually have a passionate fanbase who cares about the team 365/24x7 days a year, and not just when they are in the playoffs and doing well, like some team like Florida, LOL.

Nah. Passion isn't a valid excuse here.
Habs fans have crossed the line too often in the last few years. Stuff like literally harassing player's family members and death threats to the guy who fought against Xhekaj

...Are unacceptable and inexcusable. (It's obviously not a sin the entire fanbase have to bear, but it's still f***ing disgusting.)

I have nothing against Reinbacher, but man my opinion of our front office has nose dived this past week. They went out if their way to state they'd go BPA, then after the pick they essentially admit they picked by positional need. Then on top of it they say they think he's a 2D at best that won't quarterback our 1st powerplay.

I would not be happy if they took smith over reinbacher. Heck I might be having a pathetic meltdown myself lol

Well said. It's always the same cast of characters as well that come out of the woodwork on this site. Just check the tank threads and how nasty it gets in there. You'll find all the same people.

Pretty sure Hughes said he believed "some" of the teams that were calling for the pick at 5 wanted Reinbacher. Not all. Clearly Philly for one wanted Michkov and were rumored to have offered to move up to 5.

Continue building that narrative in your head though. Coyotes took a defensemen because they clearly had decided to take a defensemen and thought the russian stuff was BS so just picked the next best D on their list. A refreshing take from a NHL group at just valuing talent as opposed to nationality.

Hughes and Habs medias are clearly in damage control mode.

Fact is, the reason his pick had that much value is Michkov.

Yeah it went way too far. I get if you’re disappointed, but some people need psychological help. It’s just a game you have no control over. If you can’t handle it, stop watching. No need to be toxic towards a kid that doesn’t deserve it.
100% agreed. Anybody that throws shade or takes out frustration on an 18 year old kid who just got drafted is scum.

This goes back a long time. Remember when the fans called 911 on the Chara / Pacioretty hit? Good times.

Future Habs management groups (including Molson) as well as sponsors might be reluctant to rebuild in future years/decades after the lack of emotional maturity shown from some of our rabid fans.

I showed my wife this picture and she said

"He's a kid, I feel like I need to burp him or something. "

Our D is looking solid. Add in a good goalie and we’re in good shape.

But we still need that elite scorer. CC is a great goal scorer but that’s it. Mitch and he in the same lineup would have been insane.

Those types of players are impossible to get. I don’t know what the plan is now.

If we’d traded for Lafreniere instead of Newhook then maybe… but I don’t see the plan here on getting that scorer.
