Crazy how some people just look at points.

Most points = Best

And even by that metric Reinbacher had a great year statistically in his league.

He’ll be good. Will it be good enough to make some forget Michkov ? Maybe, but we’ll have to wait and see if he stays on that same trajectory.

Like Guhle, people will rave about him once he makes the jump and be surprised by how good he looks on the ice from the start.

He was the consensus #1 D in the draft! Why are you trying to make shit up?

Seriously? It's not hard to find lists where he isn't the top D. A little research can go a long way.

That said, I personally had him as the number one D in the draft at 9. But this was a forward-heavy draft in terms of talent, and reaching for a D at 5 when game-breaking talent was available was a huge miss.

he was my 2nd pick, but Michkov was there.

still, Yotes 100% wanted Reinbacher, would explain why we didn't trade down.

also, you guys are f***ing brutal in this thread, no wonder why we're despised as a fanbase and nobody wants to play here.

Yeah, people don't want to play here, because of us, not because we are stuck in mediocrity since forever.

Not because we can't develop/draft a PPG player, because of us.

Not because of the shitty media who make a huge thing of nothing, be cause of us.

Not because this management can't see talent when it's in front of them, because of us.

We are in that situation, because people applaud every move and still buy the product, enjoy the shit show, I'm glad you are happy.

Plus he'll be ready in a year and maybe take this team to the bubble so Molson can get into the playoffs asap and sell some beers. Whoo!

Just cuz some Wannabee scouts didn't have him first D going in the draft, doesn't mean he was not the best D out there...

Michkov was a no brainer. Even if he ends up being a bust, he was still a no brainer. It was our chance to finally have a major offensive talent. This wasn’t a time to play it safe. Very disappointed regardless of what Reinbacher turns out to be. I don’t buy tickets to watch steady right handed defenseman. I buy tickets to see a spectacle and guys that light up the night. We could have traded for a Reinbacher if needed but nobody will give up Michkov if he is what many claim.

I understand your point, I think he was clearly the best D of the draft. Maybe that changes in a few years, but watching this kid in actual games left me impressed.

Before the U18 I was torn between him and Smith at 5.

Truth is, most of the guys drafted today will have subpar careers. Just in terms of forward many will top out as middle six players or second line wingers.

You get a guy today that will at worst play 20 minutes a night on the second pair as your #3 with the tools to accomplish more than that. I feel like any other defensemen had way more red flags.

Sucks that we don’t have that dynamo up front that can change the game at any moment. It really does, but who knows maybe they get lucky next year lottery wise or just draft a forward that becomes elite.

You implied everyone had Reinbacher first. I was simply refuting that.

I'm not sure why people are conflating this draft with a normal draft. This is the best draft since 2003 or 2015, particularly in terms of forwards. I think a lot of players from this draft will absolutely turn out.

It's not that we won't have a dynamo up front. We have no high-end offense up front other than Caufield whatsoever. Inability to score goals has been the absolute bane of this organization. It's made us suffer through boring, horrible hockey and they STILL don't win. Aren't you tired of it?

It's the same defense-first and f*** goal scoring shit the Canadiens always do. And it didn't work then and it won't work now.

Montreal native and hockey data expert Thibaud Chatel works extensively with teams in Switzerland tracking data and providing detailed analytics to his clients and subscribers. His service, NL Ice Data, tracked 22 of Reinbacher’s games with Kloten, and came to the following conclusion.

“To get deeper, we also have a prospects model, which looks at every player from 16 to 22 and projects their potential career (until) they reach 30 years old. On this one, Reinbacher was simply the second-best player in the draft behind (Connor) Bedard, with a 52 percent chance of being an ‘Elite’ (top 10 percent) player in the league on average during the next decade.”

I've heard all kinds of crazy comparables for this guy tonight from the cope crowd. I've heard Pietrangelo, Josi, Hedman, Seider... All of which are nuts.

As of right now, he's a Better, less physical Kaiden Guhle. No more, no less.

Yes, his point production is not atrocious, but, as with Slafkovsky (who wasn't a godawful prospect despite his abysmal production), production never tells the whole story. (and Reinbacher's 3 goals aren't anything to write home about either.)

As of right now, he does not have the offensive upside of any of the aforementioned players. His shot is lacking, his passing is ok. While he joins the rush, he doesn't seem to have any elite offensive instincts. He's just there offensively. He's also not as physical as his size or some of the pundits that clearly haven't watched him would have you believe.

This would be a fine player to draft... say... post Dvorsky. But not at 5 in a stacked forward draft and certainly not above a game-breaking talent.

This is a disastrous pick.
Dvorsky scored 14 points in a 2nd tier league. Reinbacher had similar stats a year ago. This year he had 12 primary assists alone...in one of Europe's top leagues:laugh:

Of course we're talking forward vs defenseman and have yet to mention the fact that Dvorsky was a turnovermachine and a league 3rd worst and whopping -19.

Well,I can easily remember when the consensus was that Big Mike would be the one to save us. After that it was Jasperi.

I am in full wait and see mode, as I don't have a clue. I'd have gone with Leonard, but that is based on next to nothing, so...
Furthermore, wtf do I know...:D

I wanted Michkov but that’s ridiculous, 1st pairing dman are the most valuable assets in the league and it’s not close.

Reinbacher looks like a safe bet to make the league and his advanced stats are better than Seider and Similar to Dahlin.

Again I would have preferred Michkov but I prefer Reinbacher to Leonard, Smith or Dvorsky

Good man.

His stuff was mentioned already. Check out my post and the one I quoted.

When I saw the pick at work I wasn't impressed. Struck me with shades of the KK draft where we reached on need and didn't trade down because Arizona would've taken the player we wanted.

That said, after going through the 5 stages of grief without posting, I'm ready to welcome Reinbacher as an important part of our rebuild, being the presumptive #1 in development. It'll be fun to follow his development as he's a lot of what I love in a D-man.

Drawing conclusions from a random statistical model that I know nothing about is like drawing conclusions based on some random self titled scout that I know nothing about.

But still, I'm curious to find out what we have.

Interesting............
Did his interview, you can find it on the habs website. people on here over read every point. Reinbacher was the teams guy, he was in a group of the most talented players available in the scouts eyes and plays a premium position. They had offers to move down and didn’t take them because they knew Arizona would at 6 and they loved him that much. They also felt teams trading up would try and snag him.

I think he’ll be a good smart middle pairing guy one day. To me his floor is close to his ceiling. I can’t see imagine him as a bottom line D. He’s too good of a skater. His shot is too good. He’ll produce more than a bottom pairing. He has a good defensive sense.

A legit top pairing D needs one or two exceptional qualities. Some are very mean or very physical. Have brilliant offensive timing. Can go end to end.
He’s physical in that he uses his body but more in making good choices when pinning or putting his body in the way.

Hé has some of the classic Swiss Army knife cliché. He does a bit of everything well, but does not excel in any one. Unless one of those exceptional traits arises at some point in time, he’ll be a 2nd pairing RD one day.
How many games did you watch?
I don't think there's currently a defenseman in the world clearly better than Reinbacher at transition from defense to offense. And Reinbacher is just a prospect, not a finished player. His combination of vision, IQ, mobility and especially passing accuracy is otherwordly. That's how he got to 12 primary assists. Playing with better players his outlet and stretch passes will be even more dangerous. He can create offense from nothing within seconds and nobody does it better than him. He's got weaknesses but that's one heck of a strength of his. If you or a teammate of yourse lose the puck to Reinbacher, you better watch out or you'll get punished. Also, Montreal does have the skilled speedsters upfront who can benefit from Reinbacher.
