No - Reinbacher can defend at an NHL level, Mailloux can't yet.
I disagree - Mailloux looks like he's trying to do calculus in his own zone.

Yeah it's debatable. But Mailloux will struggle defensively in the NHL, at the beginning.
And i think he will make the roster before Reinbacher because of the situation in which the team actually is but Reinbacher would do a better job defensively.

I'm not so sure about that, I think he's going to surprise many of us in the next 2 weeks.

I really hope so. I have big hopes Mailloux can become a potent no.4 D in the league if he can be steadier in his own zone. But imo, he, with Xhekaj, will give us a unicorn bottom pair D for many years.

That hasn't changed since his days in London it was one of the very first things I noticed about him.
He gets that dazed look going and you just know the sprocket skipped somewhere.
It's only for a fraction of second but he ends up being a fraction of a second late on his next move.

By what metric? He had a pretty good season last year as a 19-20 year old and signed a contract as a franchise cornerstone and is now a first line player.
A player struggling for long periods of times at any point during the season doesn't mean they were rushed. That's how some (most) players learn best. I'll bet there is more examples of players struggling in the NHL as young players who turned out great vs. those who dominated at the AHL and were babied at every step of the way.
I'm looking forward to the organization continuing to challenge our young players to evolve into great players and building on hard knocks vs. false success in the AHL.
Luckily it's 2024 and we have a real hockey front office trying to build a long-term winner and not appease the media. Bergevin was let go almost 3 years ago now you know.
