It’s funny that Reinbacher has been the number one topic of discussion and he’s probably our highest pick with the most underwhelming stats ever. I know, you can’t just look at stats, but it is funny.

funny is not really what I think of when I look at the situation but if he ends up anything close to Josi then we can all laugh it up in time.

His draft year statistics were historic for a defenseman in the NLA, at a time where it's at the best it's ever been, but sure.

The problem is the league is not known for having many U-19 blueliners. Only 59 U-19 blueliners have played in more then 30 games in the league's history. In the league's history only 6 U-19 blueliners have had more then 8 points.

Very interested to see him next season to see what he can do as he clearly showed something in Laval and we know he's a lock to play in the NHL with his combo of size/mobility/skating/two way play. I have major doubts about his game but I had similar issues when watching Romanov in the KHL and that turned out fine.

Yeah saying that's historic would have been like saying Kopitar's production as a prospect was unprecedented for Slovenians. Sure it's true and he worked out, but it doesn't really mean anything when he's in a very unique situation.

Meh you can completely disregard the stats.

You are still left with a 18 years old kid who did exceptionally well in a league prone on shunning 18 years old dman. It's not because a situation is unique that it doesn't mean anything. Him playing in the NLA at that age already mean something.

For sure, and he was without a doubt in my mind a top 11 prospect in the draft, I just mean if we already know that there's not much that can be gleaned by looking at his NL stats

Great context into the Reinbacher situation. I personally wanted to draft Michkov but I'm OK with this pick.

Reinbacher seems to be a nice kid with a competitive side. Don't think he is nasty in terms of wanting to hit guys but his ability to neutralize forwards is good with his size/skating. Energy and work ethic won't be an issue. Obsessive to improve? Not sure yet.

I don't think he is going to generate lots of points. I think we have a H Lindholm on our hands but hopefully has some Dobson mixed in too. Those are two players I find fit the most and I think Reinbacher is more of a strong top 4D than a top pairing stud. A rare RD that works very hard and has size/skating, which is hard to acquire.

Hockey IQ? Another area I am not sure about. Some are going to flip out but I have KK vibes when I listen to Reinbacher talk. A nice well spoken kid but not so sure they have thick skin. I hope if it takes a while for him to develop, the media/fans chill with patience but I fear this is not possible in Montreal. Especially with the Michkov narrative.

All 3 of Hutson, Mailloux and Reinbacher are going to be trying to knock the door down.

They might not be able to keep all 3 out for very long.

Habs fans aren't gonna like it but Jayden Struble is the most likely to get moved, he's valued around the league, he's young, and if they want to make a package to get a Necas, he's going to have the value that Harris and Barron aren't going to have.
I don’t think Struble has much value tbh. He’s a good bottom 6 and that’s all he’ll likely ever be. If he’s our bargaining chip, we need to find another way.

What makes you think he is valued around the league?

Don't get the obsession with stats outside the NHL to evaluate future success in NHL, especially for defensemen. Not only is time required (go look at Josi's stats until he was 24) - but you need to be able to defend. In the 12 games when Reinbacher joined (having never played in North America) Laval who was fighting for a playoff spot he was used in every situation, PK - PP - end of games - this is more impressive than if he had a point a game.

Reinbacher might never be an elite point producer - but you can be a legit 1D if you can do every thing else at an elite level. He has size, defends, great puck mover, great wheels....and he might cap out at 40-50 pts a year. That's in the Pietroangelo - Heiskanen range.

Struble was unable to remain consistent the more he got used. He still has work to do in terms of being fit and ready for 82 games.
He doesn't have the attributes that can offset fatigue like some of the top player's do.

He played 4 seasons where he played less than 20-30 a year. He will get use to the rigors of NHL hockey. It may become a numbers game but I really like this player.

I'd be in favor of paying big to get the Sharks' 14th overall pick if a player like Eiserman or Catton are still on the board and the scouts believe heavily in them. The Sharks are barren on D apparently.

They may interested in a package involving the following assets:

- Jets 1st,
- Calgary/Florida 2025 1st,
- Avs 2024 2nd,
- Pens 2025 2nd,
- Barron,
- Struble,
- Harris
Probably nothing there (that the Habs will accept) that gets the deal done. Sharks need high end quality as much as anyone and those D prospects don't bring much SJ doesn't already have. Downgrading picks isn't interesting except for a massive overpayment in value.

To SJ: Jets1st, Flames 2025 1st, Struble, and Barron.

To MTL: 14 oa

Engstrom is a player I don't want to move. But I consider Engstrom plus the Jets 1st. I just don't know enough about his NHL prospects to know his value to us.

If all our targets were gone at that point from SJ's perspective, I'd consider it for sure. Struble isn't really all that appealing, but Grier may like him. Barron could be a fit for our needs, but he's a longshot. Again, SJ needs higher upside. I know many of our fellow Habs fans won't like it, but SJ likely asks for Mailloux+ for any such a deal. From the Habs perspective, I'd be alright with your offer, but would prefer to keep the 2025 1st until we have a clearer idea of where it'll land.

To me I thought Engstrom looked a good bit better then Reinbacher at last summers development camp. But every time I watch Engstrom I'm impressed, kind of like Owen Beck though in that you have to guys that just look to be locks to be NHLers because they do just about everything well but nothing great which may limit their upside but they play a very NHL style game and have a number of impressive tools that will surely get them to the NHL soon outside of injuries and time to adjust to the higher levels of play.

FINALLY we agree on something, this is a good trade for both teams.

I wasn't on board with Michkov as I don't like his game that much, feel he's overrated, small, plays small, isn't the hardest worker or very good in his own end. Reminds me of Caufield but a better playmaker. It's just too early to say how this will pan out as it's not looking great since Mickhov clearly is highly skilled offensive player. I am utterly shocked about the rumors that they are letting him out of his contract since it's not something I can recall seeing for high end prospects before. I was worried he would sign for an addition 2 years so I was very wrong on that one.

Reinbacher was very tough to get a good read on as his play was inconsistent though his 2nd half was clearly much more consistent and mistake free. Dobson is someone that I think makes sense to hope he can be that kind of D and impact. With prospects it's always about progression or lack of so anyone that tells you they know what a player is going to be in 5 years is full of shit most likely as there are just so many factors and variables going on that you can just track their progress year to year and adjust from there.

I do think from what i've seen based mostly on his NL games that the scouting reports are incorrect, and that his offensive game is better then it's been talked about but his defensive game is not as polished as scouting reports suggested. Either that or the the big jump in weight from 185 to 209 impacted his game that much as I only saw a little of him in his draft year and wasn't at all impressed but can see that he has tools scouts love of size, mobility, above average skating, can move the puck and closes gaps well with his speed and long reach.

Not only that, I think his mindset is great. He seems to work very hard to achieve his goals.

He is excellent and will be a good defender, but he seems to be willing to spend hours in the summer to be better. I remember the article from Basu I think. His dad always told him that everything gets done in the summer. If you want to have a good year, you need to put in the hours and work hard to be ready for the season.

It will be interesting to see what happens at camp, the first say quarter ofo the season, and then each subsequent quarter of the season.

My prediction is that Hutson will add a dynamic to the team that will make it impossible for management to send him down, similar to when Caufield and Subbsn first joined the team. There was no looking back, no getting sent back down. But that's just what I think is more likely than not, not what I know for sure will actually happen. And if he isn't ready, for sure it's likely to be on the defensive end.
I think Reinbacher makes team. Unless has bad camp. Struble sent down because he has options. Hutson makes team. Harris is traded.

He's not reliable at all. Not anymore than the average poster on the draft thread or boards.

For example, he had Moritz Seider 35th, which was a completely ridiculous ranking even without hindsight.
Haha right? Wasn’t consensus around 13 and it was a « reach » to go at 6?

Barron + Jets 1st or Flames 1st is the new Halak, Ryder and a 2nd.

Man I don’t like the idea of trading Struble or Harris. They are two of the better athletes we have. Both good skaters (Harris very good). Struble’s physicality and ceiling are unique and Harris hardly ever gets beat 1on1. Harris will wear a letter for the Habs or some other team.

We will watch these guys succeed for years like Desjardins and so many others…. We should be trying to hang on to these guys as long as possible and see what they can do with more experience.
