The Habs training camp next year is going to be insanity with all the defensemen knocking on the door. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mailloux make the Habs next season and then Reinbacher could take over the minutes Mailloux's been playing for Laval.
Exactly this if Mailloux does indeed make it.

However Mailloux might be up against the numbers game to start next season.
This was always one of the strongest arguments for sending Reinbacher home.
Had we kept him in Laval it would have certainly affected the icetime of others.
My assumption has always been that both players would ideally get two years in the minors.
This made the overlap make more sense. Mailloux's perfection year next year as a #1 in Laval.
Reinbacher's the following season.

I don’t get the joke. Cause he has long arms?

It just means you are young and I am old.

It goes back to the 2008 deadline when the Habs were in first place and Gainey was big game hunting

We were in a frenzy here because it seemed like montreal was about to land Hossa, and then reports started going around that his gloves were already spotted at the airport.

Good times.

Yeah it's puzzling people think he wouldn't play even after coming over to NA lol

Even IF the coach 'didn't want' to add a pretty good defenseman with size and mobility and smarts to the team that is in a crucial point in its season vying for the playoffs
The GMs and management would force him anyway lol

Having Roy , Struble and Reinbacher for the AHL playoffs is gonna be huuuuuge

To me the ''potential'' is and was always there, that is even the most frustrated part of all this, skill wise he is probably the best D prospect we have but at some point we have to see it translate in his game.

That's why i say he needs to step up next training camp with all the young guns we have coming in.

No doubt that it's ultimately on him to translate his potential into reality...

Look at a career arc like Shea Theodore if you're feeling impatient or doubtful because he's not there yet.

D6 before being an NHL regular
D9 before becoming top pairing
D12 & strong bet for a team Canada Olympic spot

@ their respective D4 seasons, Barron is ahead in NHL games played & production.

Very similar tool set, size, draft pedigree... It's eery how much they resemble & if Barron gets even close to the level he's a top 4 pick for years to come

I truly believe that if Reinbacher have been playing in OHL and not Europe, all people would understand why he is a high pick.

I really liked his rookie year in his league, but when I watched him in pre-season game, wow, his style fit perfectly on NA ice. He would put massive numbers if he have played OHL this year.

Yeah, if Reinbacher, Struble and Engstrom are options on D, we can leave Norlinder on the sidelines forever, which would help. I know some people like Galipeau, but I didn't like what I saw from him last night. Maybe it was just on off night...

Yea, I'm pretty convinced you could have put any top defense prospect in the world on that Kloten team and they would've struggled to put up points.

Kloten completely imploded from last season to this season. Last year their point leader was a 2 way tie at 49 points, and Reinbacher was 2nd in points for defensemen. This season their point leader only had 29 points, Reinbacher took 1st for points by defensemen, and the defensemen that beat Reinbacher's point total last year went from 0.66 points per game to 0.19 points per game.

So it's no surprise we didn't see a progression in his production considering the state of the team. If he was playing in the O then I wouldn't be surprised if he was a PPG player.

Swiss league is a great pro league but they can also dress more skaters. So teams (like Kloten) dress 8 defenders. That means they can dress PP or PK specialists. It’s not great for the development of a young defender to sit on the bench during special teams and only go out with the 2nd unit. Look at the Habs 2nd PP unit. Even Cale Makar couldn’t overcome that.

I was pretty hyped on Reinbacher and I agree with everything you said.

I still don’t think he looked great besides all that. Not super worried per se but I think he just legitimately struggled at times.

I’m nowhere near throwing in the towel and he still showed plenty of impressive things but it raised my eyebrow a bit for sure.

But I’m super stoked he’s here now and we’ll quickly get a better idea where he’s at. He might take a few games or who knows maybe he hits the ground running.

The one thing I do hope for is that both Roy and Struble perform well when they eventually go back.
I seems to me last year's returnees did jack shit when it counted most.
