There will always be some who will want a 30 min #1 defenseman right away but I do think reinbacher will benefit from being drafted the year after Slaf. Given what he has done this year, specially since Dec 16, most people will be more patient with reinbacher.

You'd think but this thread is evidence... they are not. Well, this thread a little bit, twitter is way worse.. had some clown claim he watched 15 of Reinbacher's games and he was "terrible".

He might not even get to actually play if he does come over to Laval, the team is in a tight playoff race and it's not easy pulling an established player out of the lineup in that situation. The bigger benefits would be to have him get an early start working with the staff and getting acclimated to a new environment. I certainly don't expect to see him get more than a few games in.

We're playing Galipeau - Norlinder as a bottom pair.

Both guys are probably more effective in the AHL than someone with zero NA experience. Do you think Houle wants to acclimate players when we're fighting tooth and nail to make the playoffs?

I could see Norlinder scratched but I can't imagine galipeau sits even though we want the new toys to get ice time.

Just looking at how he handled Mysak, kidney, Davidson, Mesar, etc will tell you how much Houle enjoys working with rookies. Struble will definitely go down later and take Norlinder or galipeaus spot.

I don't envy Hughes having to sort out this d situation in the summer. It's good to have this many NHL caliber d but we aren't going to be able to get fair value for Harris or Barron whoever else is traded.

Bad takes don't go unchallenged here really bad takes get removed.

4 in 6 including a 3 in 3
He'll get to play.

We are talking about a defender who is already tested. It's mostly timing and reaction time he's going to need to work on.
The expectations that need tempering will have more to do with production than anything else.
I don't think there is any doubt he will be an upgrade over the bottom pairing guys.

Has Norlinder really acclimated to the AHL? Wouldn't be surprised to see Reinbacher perform better than Norlinder, especially since Reinbacher brings dimensions we need more than Norlinder does.

It didn't hurt Struble last year.

The difference being Struble was acclimatized to the NA style of game.
We talk a lot about rink dimensions but I think it's more about the in your face approach teams employ on the smaller ice surfaces.
It's still hockey and it will always be about the quality of execution in restrained spaces.

At least the fans going to the games are very different, i don't really know how things work on twitter but the kids playing in the NHL should be able to block anything hockey related, would be better for their mental health

He's not nor does he have any business doing so. Anyone who watched Justin Barron play tonight would not be throwing the towel in on him just yet.
He played a very coordinated game which was one of his major flaws IMO.
He kept his feet used his size, his awesome skating, and his reach to great effect.
For some reason I can easily see a confident Justin Barron moving the puck up the ice on our PP with that length and that speed.
Well said.

The waiver situation is a bit constraining, but he remains one of our more talented prospects.

A situation 3-5yrs down the road where RB, Barron & Mailloux have all hit their stride would be a huge win & give us a pretty amazing RD... Pair that with Guhle + whoever excels from Hutson/X/Strubble/Engstrom etc. & the style & pace of play the team will be capable of is mind blowing.

I don't get why some are so quick to dismiss that potential :dunno:

I expect the Ylonen/Primeau scenarios will play out exactly the same way with Justin Barron.
While I don't think Hughes will hesitate to drop assets he feels are holding up the rebuild process.
I believe he sees Barron as an asset that is currently part of the rebuilding process and not one that is "place-holding."

Guy just coming to Canadian ice and style of game, patience required. Obviously.

But we are arriving at a crucial point. Guhle seems a fit for being the 2D and I'm thinking Xheraj could be a 4D with upside potential. Whatever Harris is, he isn't a 1D or a 3D.

So that's the question, we have 4 offensively talented players. For right now Barron seems to have dropped away. So out of Hutson , Mailloux and Reinbacher do we have a 1D and 3D ? If not we have a problem.

If you mean that Barron will be on the Habs 23 man roster to start 2024-25 I agree.

His potentiual ranks hium ahead of Kovacevic and Harris, unless we use one of those as our 8th D and go with only 13 forwards.

Roy played in the play-offs when Sherbrooke got eliminated.

He's the 5th OA pick coming from a men's league.. he is going to play, even if Houle would prefer he doesn't, he will be doing what he is told.

It's not easy to do but it has to be done. The good news is he will be coming in to play during a 3 games in 3 night stretch where they would be rotating players in and out of the lineup regardless.

To me the ''potential'' is and was always there, that is even the most frustrated part of all this, skill wise he is probably the best D prospect we have but at some point we have to see it translate in his game.

That's why i say he needs to step up next training camp with all the young guns we have coming in.

The other thing they said is for people to temper expectations at the beginning.. Reinbacher will have to adjust to the smaller rink again, new environment, new system, new league.
No, I’d rather jump the gun like people saying he’s the wrong pick 9 months after the draft.

Yeah exactly. The Habs couldn’t dictate to Kloten on how to utilize Reinbacher, but they own the Laval Rocket. The organization pretty much has to do what they tell them to do. Its sole purpose is to serve the Habs.

He's obviously going to play. They drafted him 5th overall... He's also got the potential to be their best defenseman and playing these important games will be helpful to his development.

He is coming here to play. Whatever is going on in the back end or how tight a playoff race they're in, he's getting in the line-up.

If Struble got in the line-up last year when he joined Laval after his NCAA season was over, then the 5th overall prospect will get in the line-up for sure. Norlinder also got in the line-up when he came over from Sweden.

That will be a directive given to JF Houle by upper management. They won't bring him over just to watch AHL games.

What will be left to be determined is how much practice time will they need to give him before inserting him in the line-up.

Putting the coach aside for a minute. Let's look at the players. I watch Laval and I see a group of guys who genuinely seem to like each other.
Not only will Reinbacher have the support of our development group the player's to a man all know what the pecking order is.
Most of our Dmen in Laval know they will likely never crack the Hab's starting lineup.
Having said that they also know if they want a shot at a decent career how they interact and work with their team mates is paramount.
Not only will Reinbacher play everyone in the organization will do everything in their power to make sure he is comfortable.
That is just how it works.
