Did Geoff contact all the media and tell them to start lecturing people about manners regarding players? Suddenly all the habs twitter feeds are 'you should all be ashamed of yourselves' lol.

Good times
well those entitled people need to be called out. like grow tf up. i don't think i've ever seen this overreaction before over a draft pick. not even after kotkaniemi and slafkovsky picks. it even got pretty chaotic here. it's embarrassing some people can't control their emotions.

Never quite seen anything like that. Maybe after Price was drafted, people hated that one a lot. They wanted the flashy superstar. Funny thing is Price was the only superstar we've had since then.

Friedman reported that Michkov went to meet Briere and some Flyers hockey ops guys last Friday in Philadelphia. The Flyers closed down their arena and cancelled all the events they had that day to meet with him in secret. Then they met with him again in Nashville where they introduced him to all the scouts.

So it was clear he only wanted to go to Philly. It's very possible that the teams picking ahead of Philly knew that. So they weren't going to use a high pick to select him (and then end up having another Lindros situation).
I think Philly just got lucky that they're within 90 mins drive of the only airports that will connect flights to Nashville from overseas, while also having a top 10 pick. Not sure it meant he was only interested in Philly.

The hockey world is very small. I'm willing to bet that everyone in the Habs org has only one or two degrees of separation from michkov.

If they didn't directly know someone who knew michkov the player and person, they definitely knew someone who knew someone.

They made their decision on the player before they interviewed him and whether the kid wanted to play in Montreal or not made no difference.

Definitely. Remember when we lost Markov. We've been waiting for a real PMD since then.

Friedman's report says otherwise. They're the only team Michkov met twice. It's not out of convenience because they're close to an airport.

They said "we passed on him because we never saw him play" but it was probably more like "we passed on him because we never saw him play and we also heard some shit from people we trust."

What was the rumour? I heard something like he was rolling his eyes and getting huffy in the interviews when asked about his defensive play. Maybe Philly didn't ask those questions.

Hughes has said some really dumb stuff around this draft, the above quote included, but I have to believe they did a substantial amount of dd on michkov, if they didn't watch him play they certainty called many people who did

I consider Mason Mactavish as good player, with a great potential. During his draft year year. He played in the 2nd league in swiss. (Swiss-sw). He was okay, I would say. Same for Brennant Othmann.
Now, we get a dman. He didnt played into the 2nd league in swiss. He played into the first league. He had a big role. He played top line minute at 18 years old. He has the second best ratio +\- (his partner at d had the best).
The sky is the limit for him. Roman Josi didnt play that kind of role, cause he wasnt ready for it back in the days, and thats a normal thing. Reinbacher is a top pair dman to become. If you guys thinks Mason Mactavish is gonna have a great career. Just imagine what Reinbacher did last year on a higher level.

I like the optimism of this take and appreciate the context, but personally, I have a more cautious approach to future expectations of Reinbacher.

Unfortunately, young players' growth and development aren't linear and the circumstances and context of the players' environments (team, coach, linemates, environment etc.) also play a major role in a player's success, so for me, those aren't concrete comparables. But, I think this certainly demonstrates he has a solid floor and likely room to grow.

On athletic podcast, Basu said there were a lot of teams that wanted to make a trade with Habs in order to draft Reinbacher (as opposed to everyone thinking it was all about Michkov) as they anticipated Yotes taking him.
He was a very sought after player.
Looking forward to him developing into a pillar here to help team and humble the haters.

The reports says that he has a very high hockey IQ. You can't teach that and that's why i think he has a much higher chance to make it in the NHL since he more than held his own playing against men.

Just droppin this here. Earliest Reinbatake I could find.

Guy Boucher coached in NL league for 3 yrs, says it's better than AHL, and says it's much better now than it was when Roman Josi played in it... basically says Reinbacher is very impressive.

Respect his opinion, but the AHL is the better league by transfer coefficients. NL is still a very good league.

According to Thibaud's models, at Draft year, Reinbacher is more advanced than Seider, Jiricek or Nemec.

I was fuming when the pick came in and started googling. I read the following and calmed down.

"It’s not often an 18-year-old player, let alone a defenceman, is relied upon to play in every situation in a top men’s league. Reinbacher was all of that for Kloten in the NLA, or the Swiss National League. His 22 points are the most by a draft eligible defenceman in league history and rank second to Auston Matthews’ 46 points as the most for any draft eligible skater in league history."
