I know you’re joking but it got traction because a Sens Twitter page took a screenshot of some of the worst comments, and posted it as an attempt to dunk on Habs fans and make us look bad. Then hockeyfeed, the most garbage sensationalist site covered it citing only the worst garbage with no nuance or context about the situation. Now we have to hear about it forever and nobody bothers to look into it more than “Reinbacher got death threats from Habs fans who wanted Michkov” and “Habs fans think he is the second coming of Hitler and want him dead”

My point is every player gets hate comments, and if people cared they could’ve taken screenshots and tried to make hate comments about other draft picks go viral too. It was done by a Sens fan acting in bad faith trying to amplify the hate, not bring awareness to it.

There was a ton of comments angry about the selection that still wished the best for Reinbacher, but those all got lumped in with the ultra negative ones to make it seem like every Habs fan wanted him dead. It was seriously lame how we gave so much power to those people and I will stand by that.

That's what fans do. You don't think we highlight the most embarrassing aspects of other fanbases too?

This isn't about me or you being lumped in with the unhinged lunatics. It's about not condoning the comments coming from the lunatics. It's a much broader issue that goes way beyond one player and some fans and it needs to be called out as unacceptable when it rears it's ugly head.

Nobody is condoning the behavior. The media acting like it was the biggest deal ever and a reason to not bring Reinbacher over to North America was seriously pathetic

If we are not condoning it, then we should call it out when it happens instead of dismissing it as something found by sens fans that represents a very small minority.

I think we should embrace context and acknowledge the truth and not make sweeping generalizations about how Habs fans called Reinbacher Hitler and want him to kill himself

That means the behavior should be called out but also contextualized

If we are agreeing that a line was crossed by guys direct messaging him with threats, and that this behavior should be called out, then I think there's no more to add from my end.

I'm not as interested in pinpointing exactly how much over the line it went.

...if Reinbacher does come back healthy and is all he was hyped to be (200ft Dman), why not put him with Hutson??...have Guhle, who I believe will be a 200ft BEAST, with Mailloux (should the kid figure it out) and Jackeye & Carrier as the 3rd pairing... :dunno:
That or the following is a pretty good dcore.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Mailloux/Matheson

It's one really good dman away from being elite. Hopefully we use assets like Mailloux, Matheson and Struble, Calgary 1st, our 1st, to add a stud RD - and a 2c. But both of those pieces are hard to trade for.

Wow this seems to be getting off track
What you don't want to talk about social media dumpster diving?

I remember when we first saw them paired together in that summer mini camp.
The consensus even then was that the Reinbacher Hutson pairing was going to be a marriage made in heaven. Providing Reinbacher hasn't lost any of his mobility this is certainly still on.

A lot of pressure on both kids early on, IMO.

It doesn't take much, maybe half a season in a less challenging chair, the time needed to get acclimatized to the tempo in the NHL, and then you can go with that for at least Reinbacher, IMO.

Mailloux might need more time in a 3rd pairing role, once Matheson is moved, to make mistakes atnthe NHL level, learn from them, adjust, and then, maybe, see if he can play a top-4 role alongside Guhle who has the skill set, like Weber had, to insulate the RD.
