But you are actually aren't comparing the same thing. We know how it ends up with Reinbacher. We don,t for Hensley. You knew at mid-term in 2023 that Reinbacher would end up top 5? How is a guy at 11 lowering his stock when everybody knew from the get go that he never was a big time scorer and maybe point getter?

How is the RD position SUDDENLY not worth of a top 10 spot anymore?

Reinbacher getting injured in his D+2 is a big factor into this.

If he played this year and showed promise, fans would be spending energy supporting that 5th spot or better. However, he got hurt and no sample size to evaluate this year (yet) so fans will spend energy devaluing because others have played.

Stupid game to do so early in the process. We need way more context for us to act like experts.

Don't disagree. Though sometimes you can be more hurt by playing (see this year Emile Guité...), you will rarely see your stock upgrade while not playing. But the difference is this....if the same injury would have happened to Demidov.....you would not have the same reactions. 'Cause people loved the Demidov pick. And people think he has in him to be dominant. We cannot say it's the same for Reinbacher. I mean....it started negative from the pick itself. Just impossible to rise in the positivity without playing that,s for sure.

What's obviously premature is a definitive opinion. he does need to play before we do. Doesn't change the fact that the guys we should have taken are already proving that they would have been great assets to have. Now, Reinbacher has to do the same without being injured from the moment he steps on the ice...but especially next year. He'll have to show some dominance already at the AHL level.

The 2023 draft is the biggest what if in the rebuild.
Any plans we may have had were completely derailed by Pittsburgh losing their final game to Chicago, allowing Florida to sneak into the playoffs and eventually reach the finals.

We could easily have walked away with Reinbacher/Moore/Wahlberg instead of throwing those picks away for Newhook or it's possible having the 15th pick makes them less desperate to select a D at 5 knowing they can get someone like ASP or Willander potentially. Then you'd have Leonard/Benson/Dvorsky, ASP, Wahlberg/Strbak.

Reinbacher would have been the 5th overall pick regardless. They are not going to make a decision on who to pick top 5 based on what player could be there in the mid/late 1st round.

Also, the chances that the player the habs would have picked in the mid-late 1st round end up becoming a major part of the habs future are low.

Him getting a solid 40 games this season, factoring in a long playoff run, would go a long way into salvaging his lost development time. I'd be over the moon with that outcome.
Same, I'm excited that Laval is looking like a strong team that should be able to go on a deep playoff run. It'll be good experience for everyone, including Reinbacher, and it'll give us a good chance to see what some of our players are made of when the play ramps up in intensity.
