Some f***ing idiot in the media bringing up something that was NEVER EVEN apparent.
What a piss poor full of shit slant. Of course there were some who were booing but it was totally drowned out.
There would be some booing no matter who we decided to pick.
Anyone who was there can confirm this.
We have to admit, we have some moron fans who boo when they shouldn't................we just do.

Your use of the term "essentially" is a blatant tell that you are paraphrasing in order to conform to your narrative.
It's a HF Boards post, trust me it isn't that deep lol.

I'm just saying that from a PR perspective he handled it poorly. I remember a quote along the lines of "if he was left handed we may not have taken him", even if it's true that isn't really a smart statement to make publicly. He could've just said they thought he was the best player available at their pick and shot down the question like that.

I rewatched Rainmkrs goal at least 30x.. am I the only one completely blown away at not just the "goal" itself, but the entire read, steal, zone entry deke, neutralizing the defender on a 2v1 and taking a perfect snipe?

I seriously dont think I have ever seen a Habs prospect do that, and the last time I saw a Habs player do that legitimately was Kovalev (style and skating) and /or PK (route, IQ).. funny thing is I never liked PKs skating (looked wonky), but Rainmkr is smooth as butter!!!

I know it is only 1 game, but my GOD I was not expecting that.

Suzuki does that regularly

I hate how Hughes addressed the media after that pick, he absolutely fumbled it in my eyes.

He essentially came out saying he drafted by need and that he viewed Reinbacher as a future 2nd pair defenseman. I get you don't want to get expectations too high, but from a PR perspective those 2 quotes from him were terrible.

He never said he saw him as a second pair defenseman. He said a number 2D, since it was unlikely he'd run the PP, which is a top pair D. They drafted someone the year before who can run a PP. Blashill said of Seider that he looked like someone who could be a top 4D right after the draft. He said "well see" when he talked about if he could be top pair. Yzerman talked about the same characteristics the Canadiens saw in Reinbacher, that means someone who sees his options, not the forechecker. Where he probably could have restrained himself was the left defenseman comment.

D2 sounds like a second pairing. I think if he could take it back, he would.

Here’s the clip btw,

D2 as always meant your second defenseman in hockey lingo

Not really blown away. It's pretty much what I expect from him.

Something I haven't seen talked about is his swagger after the goal. DR seems like a shy and socially awkward person, but he's a different person on the ice. His ex teammate Eric Faille talked about it on "On Jase" after the draft.

It's more than just social media, it's helicopter parents and also letting them run the household, that made them this way. That saying "it's all about the kids" was brought too far.

There were flashes you could POTENTIALLY see him pull something like that in his draft year. Less so this year for sure imo.

But short answer from me is no. Definitely wasn’t expecting that. Again, it’s one game but it was extremely heartening to see him pull that off.

Had he been in Laval all year, I think we’d be far more stoked for the pick and we wouldn’t be wading through a million posts about how Hugo can’t draft despite the future never looking brighter.

The prevailing consensus in terms of development seems to be you want a prospect’s early D+ years to be as smooth as possible. Obviously I can see why but I think this year could be great for his development. A strong minded athlete uses adversity like a catapult. Cases and circumstances vary of course

from the back line though? Rainmkr was last man on that play, like he telepathed the whole thing.
A large part of it has to do with Hughes playing the situation perfectly to plant the “manage expectations” seed.

Just look at how many posters are convinced Hughes said Redenbacher is a 2nd pairing Dman, using “D2” terminology was not accidental it was calculated knowing full well it would help lower expectations - how many times have HuGo or Bobrov mentioned “we need to properly Identify players who can handle the Mtl market”?

Can’t really peg it on age. Every generation has its lot of narcissists, it’s just that they got different or less exposure before the era of social media.

I’ve known them all my life as I’m sure you have as well. It’s just a matter of stats — there will always be a certain number of these annoying types in any grouping.

On the flip side, I like how candid Hughes can be even if he needs to be reminded to be a lot less forthcoming with the media given how the slightest slip up can get so scrutinized in this market.

Reinbacher has all the tools. Some need more refining but I find it completely hilarious that some fans discard him just stats watching his season in the NL. All players, including elite ones in the NHL, go through better and worse periods.

I don’t believe that any fans discarded him as much as they had concerns over his offensive output last season. Plus, having a mainstream prospect reviewer rank him low citing limited offensive potential, did not help.

Most fans knew that Reinbacher is skilled, they were just grappling with this:

I’ve moved on from Michkov but not everyone has.

Habs management//scouts hope that Reinbacher will develop into a D like Dobson, Seider or Pietrangelo.

I think if he can develop into that (he have the talent, tools and work ethic to can become that type of D), that's certainly easy to see why they are more high on him than Benson, Leonard or Michkov. Even if Michkov become a Kaprizov level of guy, I rather have a Pietrangelo in my team when it's playoffs time.

No I don't and I was there.
The resounding applause was all I could hear.
It was heartfelt and it was warming it was loud. It followed Slaf everywhere he went in the Bell Center all draft long.
If people were booing I sure didn't hear it.

N.B. I wanted Wright and I was cheering louder than most. Plus I have a wicked Shrill whistle. :D
I was there and there was a massive sigh of shock, a collective gasp if you will. Some boos. A few cheers. There was a lot more boos when they announced the Romanov trade. Another gasp when they announced the Dach move.

In retrospect, what an awesome place that was to be as Habs fans!
