If the dude the is clueless - it will be an entertaining season on this forum, lol.

I'm more interested in his temperament. We can conclude AV was stubbornly clueless, particularly towards the end - but he his ego protected him from the criticism. He didn't emotionally implode. Does Quinn have the emotional bandwidth?

Do you like the hire, Edge?

I'm relatively "okay" with it and voted for "like." But I freely admit that it's a bit of an unknown at this time and we'll have to see how things play out. So in that regard, I can't say I have any particularly deep feelings on the matter.

I think he has a shot to be a good coach for our developing players. He'll likely be tough on them, but constructive. Some of them will get benched, it will happen. But I think it will be done in a manner based around communication and expectations.

I'll also stick with my thought that Quinn will likely be the coach before the guy who is hired to take this team up a level.

I don`t know yet - I will listen to his interview later this evening, but it's an exciting time nonetheless.

I hear you on Chytil/LA. Realistically, it’s important to remember young players flux in and out, I hope they all make it and “improve” but they won’t...Steven Rice, Daniel Goneau, Christian Dube...ADA is more likely to be out of the league in 4 years than be a #4 guy. Will Buchnevich move the needle or will his career follow more of an Anisimov path (nothing to sneeze at)...Gut feeling Lindgren grabs a spot in October.

I think with the proper coaching and reduction of the yoyo'ing that AV put Butch through, I think there is going to be significant strides made in his game. He was never really allowed to work though some of the short comings in his game because AV was trying to win. With that pressure reduced, Quinn should be able to draw a bit more from him.

As for ADA, Not sure that I agree that he will be out of the league in 4 years. I see a kid that has skills and he works hard. I think that the combination will afford him a nice career as a 4-6 defender.

As for Steve Rice, Goneau and Dube, not sure that I would compare any of them to LA or Chytil, but I understand your point.

Just no Pionks for Subbans.
When did this team ever make a trade for a superstar who is actually still at the top of his game AND with years of top play left in him? Play he'll likely sustain until his contract is up instead of 3 or 4 years before it is. All for the low low price of a good prospect?Closest I can think of is Nash and that trade worked well for us despite Rick's PO struggles.
Or Jagr...and that was an all time great trade

to be honest If you look back I've had reservations about this guy since his name came up. he's known for his recruiting not his coaching. the fact that he didn't want the job told people he didn't want it and held out for a monster deal makes it just worse.

The POST put out an article today which for the most part says his claim to fame as a coach was 10 years ago as a college assistant suggesting BU pull the goalie early down 3-1 against a heavily underdogged team that probably shouldn't have been leading anyway In that game. and it worked.

that's all they could dig up as his big time moment. Sorry but that is garbage. He's now coaching an original 6 team in the NHL.

As Ive said today he will be very saavy say all the right things and everyone will swoon because the guy is intense and a charmer. but proof is in the pudding and he's got a lot to prove. I personally don't think putting a rookie coach in front of rookie players is the best strategy. we've got a young team desperate for leadership and experience in that position. Yes a guy that knows how to grow young players but a seasoned guy. Quinn is as green as it gets. and frankly hasn't been all that successful as a head coach at any level.

IF this is true then Gorton is an idiot.

It's possible that you're ignoring certain things and framing your arguments in a way that suits your opinion though. Idk enough about these coaches to say. I'm just consistently underwhelmed by the quality of coaching I see in the NHL so I'm hoping new blood comes in and can bring something new to the table.

Oh, I have no problem with short term UFA signings at all.

But no "adding a quality vet for 3-4 years" if that means giving up picks/solid prospects to acquire them. You want to trade one 22 year old for another 22 year old, fine; likewise with trading a 29 year old for a 29 year old. And if someone wants to give us a meaningful prospect or a 1st round pick in a package to take a vet contract off their hands in exchange for like Rob O'Gara or David Gilmour, by all means.

Just no Pionks for Subbans.

For 3-4 year terms I was thinking in terms of UFA signings---not trading for them. I've always been kind of an advocate for signing younger UFA's--26, 27 year olds rather than the 32, 33, 34, 35 year old variety. As long as you don't give them 6,7 year contracts there's usually a good chance that they'll still have value at the end of their term.

Right now we're at a place where we need successive waves of younger players coming on to the team every year for at least the next 5-6 years. The idea to put 2-3 young impact players on your roster every successive seasons. The Rangers are pretty much set for 3 waves anyway right now---if you're counting Buchnevich and Skjei--maybe Vesey as one. Then Lias and Filip, Howden, Lindgren, Hajek, Georgiev, Lindqvist, Meskanen as another with Shesterkin and Rykov maybe coming over next year and then this year's picks as another. We're set up for adding ELC's to our roster for a few years as is.

Beyond them there is a number of other prospects that might play for us as well---Lettieri, Nieves, Ronning, Gettinger, Barron, Day and Huska.

Shit, yeah! And let's sign Tavares for 7 years and $91MM! After all, he's only 27!!!

No, no, no, no. No guys who are 29 already in the first offseason of the rebuild.

Patience, discipline, and occasional opportunism.

Maybe, if all goes well in the upcoming draft, in (short term) UFA this July, at the next TDL, and in the draft to follow – then maybe then it makes sense to sign a guy like Karlsson as a UFA next summer (if he makes it there, that is).

But no (meaningful) prospect for established pro trades until 2020 at the earliest.

I can't live stream from work. Is Quinn saying all the right things?
