The only thing I can piecemeal in here is that this is somehow bad even though everyone wanted it.Just piecemeal what you see on the internet and you'll have the same info that he does.
The usual.

Do you think there is any urgency? Or are they seeing if anyone shakes loose after the playoffs?
Sullivan isn’t a name I thought of. Maybe we route for an early exit for Pitt...I have my doubts that Gallant is in the running. There's a lot of mystery boxes around him. I'd be okay if he's out of the running.
I personally don't like Tocchet as a coach, and wouldn't want him leading the charge. But I can't rule him out at this time.
Torts is definitely a consideration, though I think Dolan might like him more than the front office does.
Julien is a possibility, as is Babcock. I don't know if the latter is necessarily a good thing. I'd include Boudreau there.
The Rangers have been high on Sullivan for a while, so they might be inclined to see what happens there.
I wouldn't rule out Montgomery, or even a dark horse like Karl Taylor.
Unknown at this time.
I think it would be in their best interest to wait. The list of candidates we have right now doesn't scream "lock one up quickly!"
Yes Montgomery had a very public alcohol issue. It's been a few years now and he seems to have it under control.
Plenty of people have overcome substance issues and go on to have success in their lives.
I would think Montgomery wouldn't have interest in NYR b/c the worry he had about our ownership 3 years ago turned out to be true.
AV bold-faced lied to us in every presser and threw his players under the bus. He might be a better tactical coach than Quinn (which is saying nothing) but he's a reptile.
what if Seattle has landed Gallant, it's just not been announced yetThe guy for this team is Gallant. No to Babcock, No to Torts, No to Therein.
It's amazing how far someone will take a rumor that Carp himself, said was something that he couldn't confirm.
This didn't happen. He took his name out of the NYR running because Dallas game him a better chance to win right away (which is what EVERYONE said right after he was no longer in the running.) Lets not perpetuate this nonsense any further.

I liked Martin but if whoever we hire can't pick a defensive coach, then we hired the wrong guy.

Montgomery's history in Orono plays a role there, and always will.... one of the legacies that Shawn Walsh instilled into that program.Carp isn't completely off base though.
Three years ago, and even today, there is a lot of concern around the industry when it comes to working in this situation with Dolan --- I'm not sure we've quieted those concerns.
Also worth noting that Montgomery's problems with alcohol weren't just related to addiction, but certain actions connected with that addiction --- including interactions with other people.
Hartley just won the Gagarian Cup in the KHL correct? Playing quite a few young players over there, including Jaskin? Did he end up signing anywhere?
Since Torts, we haven't actually had a bad coach.I never understood all the AV hate.
Though I did understand that cutting him loose because we were entering a rebuild that we actually didn't want to win in, made sense.
Another thing with Gallant... dude came so close in Vegas. I can just see it happening here for him.
I'm certainly not shedding a tear for David Quinn today, but people here are ready for a rude awakening when they realize most NHL coaches coach the way he does when it comes to player usage. His biggest problem was that his system, or lack thereof, sucked.I will also say, one reason this perhaps rings a bit hollow is I’m not sure it makes it any less likely that Blackwell (or similar) is on the PP at the expense of “the kids” given the totality of the last week of moves.
