I have my doubts that Gallant is in the running. There's a lot of mystery boxes around him. I'd be okay if he's out of the running.

I personally don't like Tocchet as a coach, and wouldn't want him leading the charge. But I can't rule him out at this time.

Torts is definitely a consideration, though I think Dolan might like him more than the front office does.

Julien is a possibility, as is Babcock. I don't know if the latter is necessarily a good thing. I'd include Boudreau there.

The Rangers have been high on Sullivan for a while, so they might be inclined to see what happens there.

I wouldn't rule out Montgomery, or even a dark horse like Karl Taylor.
Sullivan isn’t a name I thought of. Maybe we route for an early exit for Pitt...

Unknown at this time.

I think it would be in their best interest to wait. The list of candidates we have right now doesn't scream "lock one up quickly!"

Right, but that only changes if we think a HC of a current team is going to suddenly pop loose.

If we all agree that chances of Sullivan being available are very, very slim. Who else could they be eyeballing?

The guy was given an impossible task, and while he didn’t do the worst job in the world, at the end of the day there are simply better options available. A team with the Rangers resources should not be scraping the bargain bin for support staff - get the best in here and pay them.

Great to see that Allaire will remain. He’s one guy you never hear anyone complain about.

Butthole will remain puckered until new HC is announced.

Yes Montgomery had a very public alcohol issue. It's been a few years now and he seems to have it under control.

Plenty of people have overcome substance issues and go on to have success in their lives.

I would think Montgomery wouldn't have interest in NYR b/c the worry he had about our ownership 3 years ago turned out to be true.

It's amazing how far someone will take a rumor that Carp himself, said was something that he couldn't confirm.

This didn't happen. He took his name out of the NYR running because Dallas game him a better chance to win right away (which is what EVERYONE said right after he was no longer in the running.) Lets not perpetuate this nonsense any further.

Drury’s no dummy - this is a move he had to make if he’s got long term GM ambitions and a pretty clear message was sent from on high. Have to clean the whole house.

To me, this termination points to something going on in the locker room.

AV bold-faced lied to us in every presser and threw his players under the bus. He might be a better tactical coach than Quinn (which is saying nothing) but he's a reptile.

Reptilian shapeshifters confirmed.

Carp isn't completely off base though.

Three years ago, and even today, there is a lot of concern around the industry when it comes to working in this situation with Dolan --- I'm not sure we've quieted those concerns.

Also worth noting that Montgomery's problems with alcohol weren't just related to addiction, but certain actions connected with that addiction --- including interactions with other people.

Just don't think they would go two "college coaches" in a row...

I liked Martin but if whoever we hire can't pick a defensive coach, then we hired the wrong guy.

Agreed. I liked Martin too. But I feel like his hiring is something you do when you have a rookie NHL coach behind your bench. Let the next guy build his staff.

Montgomery's history in Orono plays a role there, and always will.... one of the legacies that Shawn Walsh instilled into that program.

Hartley just won the Gagarian Cup in the KHL correct? Playing quite a few young players over there, including Jaskin? Did he end up signing anywhere?

He did.

I don't understand the appeal here other than Drury played for him (He played for Torts too, not that I'm advocating bringing him back.) As mentioned in the other thread, he won the championship in the Swiss league before taking the Flames job a while ago. He won the Adams and then was fired less than a year later.

That sounds like something that would happen here, so maybe thats the appeal haha.

I never understood all the AV hate.

Though I did understand that cutting him loose because we were entering a rebuild that we actually didn't want to win in, made sense.
Since Torts, we haven't actually had a bad coach.

I would imagine the assistant coaches had time left on their contracts as well. Imagine the money Dolan has forked out over the last year + next year for people NOT to work here.

Shattenkrik
Girardi
Hank
Spooner
ADA
Richards (Isn't Brad still getting paid?)

Now:
Quinn
JD
Gorton
All Assistant Coaches

I mean, that has to be what, $15-20m, maybe more?

I will also say, one reason this perhaps rings a bit hollow is I’m not sure it makes it any less likely that Blackwell (or similar) is on the PP at the expense of “the kids” given the totality of the last week of moves.
I'm certainly not shedding a tear for David Quinn today, but people here are ready for a rude awakening when they realize most NHL coaches coach the way he does when it comes to player usage. His biggest problem was that his system, or lack thereof, sucked.

We're pretty much a year or two away from "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" if we don't experience some immediate success.
