again, I like discussing the deal, and will continue to do so.

what is your take on Sweeney's statement? I've think I've understood your response many times of "relax this will work out".

"I have not made much progress as what I would have liked," admitted Sweeney, who has over $10 million in cap space remaining with Pastrnak still unsigned. "But we have plenty of time and the opportunity to continue to talk and we will find a landing spot.

This one?

I read that DS probably hoped to have something in line at this stage but I also read, based on the final 6 words of his statement it`ll get done

Nothing more, nothing less, understanding you weren`t asking me of course;)

my guess is Sweeney slept well last night:)

of course some will use those last 6 words and twist "find a landing spot" to mean he`s being shopped:)

Call it whatever you want but this team has a track record of trading highly skilled players after their ELC is up.

I'm glad that confidence is high among a lot of people here, but a deal isn't done until it's done and they've got nothing yet so I'm sure you can understand the concern some people have. I know I can.

In my view, there is nothing to get worked up about. If the kid wants to be here, it'll get done. If it doesn't get done, then he really didn't want to be here.

I base that on my own hunch that the FO isn't low balling him...just being prudent. So it comes down to:

1. do you want to sign a reasonable contract and play for this club, in this town, that has so much to offer....if so it gets done.

2. or are you out to get the biggest contract you can...if so, no guarantee it gets done, but it might.

3. or do you want to play elsewhere for some other reason than money, or some combination of factors? if so, it doesn't get done.

Under #1, the result would mean joint credit for both parties (player & management).

Under 2 and 3, the Board will say they FO screwed up again, but I disagree, This is a business and all participants need to do what's best for them.

It'll play it and the sun will rise, regardless of the outcome.

Prediction? Pasta signs for 6 yrs, $6.6 million.

I take Sweeney's comment as he wishes things had gotten worked out by now but for whatever reason they haven't, but in time it will get worked out. Considering the relationship that Pastrnak has with the Bruins and how valuable he is to the B's, it will eventually get done.

For conversation purposes, if Pastrnak camp asking for a number Sweeney not comfortable with, what could he net in a trade for the young RW?

"It’s believed that the Bruins would prefer to get Pastrnak, who is currently with the Bruins on a trip to China as part of a partnership with O.R.G. Packaging, under contract for somewhere close to $6 million per season on a long-term deal, while Pastrnak’s camp could be looking for something closer to $7 million per season."

If they're off by a million or less, I have no worries at all. They meet in the middle at 6.25-6.75 and everyone is happy. Both sides want eachother and $1m is a drop in the ocean for a player of his caliber.

It's a million a year for 7 or 8 years. That's a lot of money.

To be fair, is that really a twist?

People ALWAYS use the phrase "landing spot" in reference to when a player signs with another team. I can't think of a single instance where it was used to mean the final numbers on a contract.

If its 1m more per season then you'd prefer, that's only 7m more out of 500m+ of cap over the span of his term, not the end of the world... Lots of money, but in context not so much.

Especially for a player like Pasta.

We overpay Beleskey by ~2.5m a year. We overpay Backes by ~2m a year. Even at their best, they're supporting players.

I'm ok with "overpaying" a 21 year old superstar who's the next face of our franchise by 1m a year, especially if it means locking him up for 7-8 years. $8m over 8 years is dirt. If he signs for ~6.5m it'll be a bargain every single year, starting this season.

Year 1: $5 million
Year 2: $6 million
Year 3: $6 million
Year 4: $7 million
Year 5: $7 million
Year 6: $8 million

= $6.5 million AAV. Most of first 3 years is signing bonuses.

That's my prediction.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks $6M AAV is solidly undervalue for Pastrnak long-term. I didn't have it laid out by year like you, but that deal (6Y/$6.5M AAV) was my prediction in the last thread as well. Honestly the more I've argued that on here the past few days, the more I think they should bite the bullet now and throw in an extra $250K AAV or so to buy 2 more UFA years...might save them big time down the line.

It's a million a year for 7 or 8 years. That's a lot of money.

Well to Dellstrom's point, if they're only a million apart and split it down the middle, that's only really like $500K extra a year...how often you see people complain about 30G scorers making $500K more than they're worth? Normally that difference ends up a lot higher once a player hits that mark. And considering the cap will probably continue to rise even in spite of an impending lockout, I doubt we'd even notice the difference in a few years.

I agree with you. Just pointing out that if the Bruins want 6M and Pasta wants 7M the difference is a lot more than 1M.

Brad Marchand $1 million
David Backes $1 million

...and what do these players have in common:

Mika Zibanejad $2.5 million
Tomas Tatar $1 million
Alexander Radulov $3 million

...and these players

Colton Parayko -$2.3 million
Nino Niederreiter -$1.6 million
Ondrej Palat -$1.9 million
Alexander Radulov -$1.5 million
Jacob Slavin -$2.1 million
Tyler Johnson -$1,75 million

There's more, but I'll leave it at that.

Is it taxes? Or lockout protection/contract formatting?
