I'm not defending Burke, but what part of the Marlies is mediocre?

Since when is a farm system ranked or based solely on were the minor league team stands in the standings?

This farm system is average. Prolly ranks in the #10-#15 range and certainly doesnt have very much elite talent.

You know what this means, **** this season, it's short anyways and this story will have us talking for a while.

Get MacKinnon and we got our new face of the franchise! Kessel deal what? Seguin who? Hamilton huh?

New face baby! New era!

Is it a requirement to have garbage in your lineup to "bridge teh gap of prospects"? I dont think so. Stop making excuses for this poor excuse of an executive. You don't have to "protect" Burkie anymore. He is nobody.

And who are you, may we ask?

I'm not an apologist, but you're posting on here like you're some kind of field general, belittling people for being shocked, talking like a clown to people questioning the move by the board, etc.?

Relax buddy. Burke isn't "nobody", he's more than you'll ever be, financially, and status wise. You're posting on a message board from your mom's basement, he's sittin' pretty with a $3m salary per year.

Want to see nobody? have a look in the mirror fella.

Whether or not you like what he did in hockey operations, he did a lot for public relations, and did a lot of work for charitable organizations in the city of Toronto. Worked extensively with Children's Hospital, and his players were more than just players, they were ambassadors of the community.

Time to go back to your day job...

Except they've actually made the playoffs in the last 8 years.

Totally ignoring the core that the Wild already has.

You've been on a roll lately with your posts. Very true. You can say all you want about Burke's performance on-ice, but off-ice there's no one better.

Honestly, this is the season to fully tank. Top 5 is insane and its a shortened season.

Then after the draft, deal for Luongo

Well balls. I was looking forward to the next Burke pressers.

And I was afraid Leafs might get near Luongo and his contract but now it's crystal clear that they're going for it. As a goalie guy I really don't like his play style and was really hoping the Leafs would get their goaltending problem solved from anybody else but LU.

Consensus is of course that he's going to be the much needed upgrade in net but with his persona and the super pressure in Toronto, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns ugly in T.O as well.

But hey, maybe now we'll get to draft a center since we've got a brand new gu--- oh crap

In summary: it's an easy save for me!

Yeah but I've been reading hockeyfanz' posts for a little while now and he's basically right on the money when it comes to the Leafs as a team and their GM.

He has credibility.

Burke failed here. (1) He failed in the draft. (2) He failed in free agency. (3) He failed in coaching hires. (4) He failed in trades. (5) He failed in record. (6) He failed in playoffs.
That is why Burke was fired. He was a complete failure.

Now what doesn't make sense is they hire his assistant WTF. CLEAN SWEEP is what is needed.

We need another Big move by the blue jays, so we can forget about this.

Quit telling people how to cheer for their team and quit assuming you fully understand what's going on unless you knew last night Burke was going to be canned this morning.

I'm not telling people how to cheer for their team.

I'm just saying we need to end the "lets tank for Mackinnon/Jones".

This ownership group will never allow for a GM to plan to do that. The only way it will happen is by mistake.

Just because you agree with some one's opinion doesn't give them creditability.

Here's the key difference:

Burke was not fired because of his performance. He was fired because ownership simply didn't like him and that is concerning.

This is a sports team, not a media company. The sooner Bell and Rogers realize that the better.

And this unsubstantiated nonsense is based on what? Irregardless of whether or not this was leaning towards performance or not, Burke failed on all of the above. I could just as easily say he was fired primarily because of his performance. Fact is, there's a reason for his incompetence in several areas. One cannot pinpoint one as treat one as an absolute. The only absolute here is that Burke has gotten zero results, whether it be on the ice or the strength of his prospect system. That's where fans can rationally and objectively judge his tenure. Not some Pejorative Slured nonsense that tries to spew your narrative of what MLSE is or isn't.

MLSE, what a ****ing joke. Burke probably didn't want to be a puppet to their piece of **** organization so they canned him, I'm thinking it was about Lou.

exactly

i was optomistic for roughly 5 mins when someone suggested Doug Armstrong as a possibility then Nonis was announced and had to listen to that cave man Tom Anselmi

Pat Quinn is bang on--- the idiot reporters just accepted the answer like sheep and didn't get anywhere with the presser
