atleast prospect nerds admits we were on the right way.Adam Proteau ‏@Proteautype
To say the Leafs are worse off after Brian Burke than they were before him is to ignore Toronto's improved prospect base. They are better.

Hoping for the Leafs to make the playoffs, regardless of whether Luongo is in net for your team. It's more fun when the big Canadian markets like Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are in the post season. For what it's worth, if you do manage to steal Luongo, your chances of making the post season increase immeasurably.
Thanks for your insight. This is pretty much what I had in mind regarding Nonis and I guess we'll see how it pans out.

When you come to realize you've declined to the point you can't contribute at the NHL level anymore it can manifest itself in many ways. He'll be as useless in MTL as he was here.

Colby another POS brought in by Burke. One of the many horrible additions to the Leafs. I cannot believe the support "Army" got when he was here. The guy is absolute crap...ala Mike Komisarek.

Duthie said he personally believes Nonis/Management wanted Luongo and Burke was hesitant. Not that this was the reason Burke was fired, but to deny that it was not considered in the decision is silly.

If so, that's some Harold Ballard type **** right there.

players brought in to bridge the gap of prospects

But they corrected the mistake, no? Just like how they're [attempting] to correct one now.

Here's the key difference:

Burke was not fired because of his performance. He was fired because ownership simply didn't like him and that is concerning.

This is a sports team, not a media company. The sooner Bell and Rogers realize that the better.

A few notes from a Canucks fan:

A) Nonis, despite his demeanor, is no push over. He was under immense pressure to make a splash by acquiring Brad Richards. Nonis stuck to his guns and the Canucks kept Kesler and Edler, much to the benefit of the Canucks. He is quieter than Burke, but so is a wood chipper.

B) His drafting record is, to be blunt, poor. Raymond and Grabner are the only two payers that had any impact in his 3 drafts. Of course, he also drafted the late Luc Bourdon, so who knows what could have been. Patrick White, is by far, his most spectacular drafting fail.

C) He deserves this shot. He was a bit of a victim to an ownership change in Vancouver, now he is a beneficiary.

D) Is he more "corporate"? Sure, but just because he is more agreeable doesn't make him any better or worse than Burke. Nonis has worked for Burke for most of his career, they share many of the same philosophies on the game. Nonis is more conservative and pragmatic but they both want the same type of team. I don't think your team is any worse off or better because of this move. It's a personality shift, not a philosophy change. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on how you feel about the last 4 seasons.

The corporate part is interesting-because Bell/Rogers own the Leafs (and as has been pointed out, the PC was pretty much FULL of Rogers/Bell-TSN employees), if indeed they have a more "democratic" person, one could argue that they now own a team which answers to reporters effectively owned by the companies who are asking questions to a low key/democratic type of GM-effectively they control all aspects of the team and Media in Toronto.

Whether there's a "puppet" here or not remains to be seen, but a cynic has to wonder now, with control effectively of the Message(Leafs) and the Medium (GM/Media)-who do they answer to?

Be interesting to see too how the Lou situation works out.

Agreed with Duthie, I don't see how there's any possible way Luongo did not play at least a decent role in Burke being canned. Either because Burke didn't want him... or because he did (much more likely the former).

THere is NOTHING professional about what happened today, there is NOTHING that says top flight organization about doing this move right on eve of season. Total amateur hour, complete joke!!

Well to be fair, there was no performance either.

That's debatable. With a top 5 farm in the MLB and now those pieces being used to bring in players of a high caliber, the fans can scream all day but AA got it done.

But we're getting OT here a bit.

Yes this off-season because they finally gave the go to spend but it was pretty bad before that. Payroll constraints limited what the Jays could do over the past number of years. At this point, Jays almost had to spend because of the heavy backlash and criticism they were receiving and of course, the team was ready for it. The organization had a bottom third payroll in MLB for years and years so it wasn't exactly like they had given the GM whatever resources he needed to improve the team. Also had JP running the ship for 8 years... which umm, wow.

No 1st line C
No #1 goalie
Teams have missed the playoffs every year under his reign
Mediocre farm system

Cant believe how many people are making it seem like we just fired some guy who did wonders for this franchise.
