Prospect Info: David Jiříček, RHD (via CBJ - 6thOA, 2020)

The more I think about this move the more I don’t like it. Our blatant gaping holes are top 6 scoring. Using all that draft capital on this kid who’s a major question mark is troublesome and reeks of Billy valuing the Stramel Trenin fantasy’s he has.

Okay with the trade, Jiricek's age/timeline aligns better with this team's likely peaks than future picks, and fills a long-term need, and his upside outweighs the downside of this trade as long as the 1st remains near the end of the round. Didn't think CBJ would want Ohgren, glad we kept Heidt as his ELC 3-4 years from now could be valuable to this team, would consider him more valuable than all the picks swapped in this trade excluding the 1st. Not surprised Waddell valued a quantity of picks as that was the Carolina group strategy during his tenure there.
Somewhat curious the short-term(this year/early next) plan with Jiricek, as Bogosian and Chisholm(barring injury should remain a RFA next year and cheap) have been doing fine, RHD are less likely to have experience playing their off-side, Spurgeon would be the logical player to ask to do it IMO, if that is the route we go, if Bogosian sits then Spurgeon will have to eat his PK minutes. Jiricek should get PP time as well if he plays given that his ability to generate offense is his biggest strength, someone will lose minutes there. Jiricek's ELC is also up after next season, that could be a difficult 2nd contract to maneuver with how Jiricek/Walsh have handled this situation.

I've done their skating classes, they REALLY focus on edge work.
Nino is a really good comparison. NYI's fans painted him as a spoiled, arrogant, brat. When he got here he was anything but, and has turned out to be well liked just about everywhere he has gone.
Difference with this situation is that Waddell merely cleaned up the mess that Jarmo created.

Isles were still owned by Charles Wang and with the rookie contracts back in the day his cap hit was close to 3 million but only had to pay him 900K so they kept him up to stay above the floor.
Then because he was in the NHL way to early and didn't develop he asked for a trade. Ironically, the Isles then committed to spending money the year after because Wang was looking to sell soon so he increased the money to bring the value of the team up.
But he asked for a trade and Snow hated the agent, trade happened. Looking back, was terrific for the Isles.
But in summary it wasn't a good relationship from the start. I think the agent hurt the relationship more than needed.

of coarse my opinion is judd was just agreeing with his boss. billy should put his job on the line and say if im wrong about jiricek i'll step down. (bet he won't)

he's in charge, i was never in that position before. ps millions of $ are at stake based on his decisions don't you think that makes a difference? im realistic. others here drink the coolaid.
I'm thinking it would not be smart for anyone to do what you suggested.
This is a fairly low risk hockey move. The team Guerin has assembled has 4 regulation losses in 24 games. He is under no pressure to do anything other than what he’s doing. I don’t like him at all but it’s tough to hammer him over this when the team seems to be buying in.

That's kind of where I'm at. Biggest hole in the prospect pool was RD. And the system is pretty flush everywhere else with our too much need on the NHL team anywhere.
Biggest concern I have is he gonna cause trouble if he has to marinate a bit more. No clear ice time this year barring injury.
Relax sheesh, it’s a medium(ish) risk-high reward move. It will take time before anything can truly be drawn from it.
Why not have some cool-aid and kick the feet up?
This is similar to another move I can't remember, but I am fairly neutral, slightly happy leaning.
Defenseman already sometimes take until age 24-5 to really pan out. He gets to rub shoulders with our D culture and skill and have our skating coaches, which are great.
Usually the new kid is a little shook up after a move, especially when it's their first time being traded. Most likely he will conform and also try to do what he needs to to fit in.
Which is good.

That Nino comparison is so good. Isles were completely done with him and he wasn't going to amount to anything
Honestly, I view it as low risk / high reward. We have a deep prospect pool so the picks wont be missed and Hunt, while i think will be a solid 3rd pairing d man (and can fill in on the 2nd when needed) isn't something that can't be replaced.
