Prospect Info: David Jiříček, RHD (via CBJ - 6thOA, 2020)

A 3rd, too.
Yeah saw that too.

I got to wonder if Walsh had a hand in this trade.

Also his knee injury scares me. Look at the scouting reports before and after his knee injury. I hope to God Minnesota did their due diligence on his medical.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for Walsh to gripe on twitter about Fleury seeing so few games. The only thing is that I think MAF wouldn't be too happy about it. He didn't seem pleased when Walsh posted the picture of Vegas stabbing him in the back.

Not a fan of Walsh. At all! Gaborik flashbacks.

I think even Fleury and his agent have to know that any game Fleury gets at this point is a gift

I get what you're saying and I'm not doubting it. But, the Ness's (Andy & his mom Diane) are supposed to be a couple of the best skating coaches in the game. I've no doubt the Wild will get Jiricek paired with them as soon as they can.
They will have to focus on pivoting. He’s not good at transitioning from closing a play down into backwards skating/defending. Additionally his backwards skating is poor enough that it impacts his gap control (looser gaps due to fear of getting beat wide). It’s gonna take time but I think he’s got an NHL future. Not sure why we “gave up” on him so soon, makes me think his agent asked for a trade.

Everybody wins except the Columbus fans who insisted it was going to be Yurov, Buium or Wallstedt or no deal.

I love adding Jiricek to a pool of Yurov, Buium, Wallstedt, Heidt and Ohgren, in addition to Boldy, Rossi and Faber in the NHL. The U24 group is skilled and it is deep. Now we just need to develop them.
As one of the ones who pushed for such a deal, I'll just admit to being wrong and sincerely hope that Jiricek does well for you guys and that Hunt and the picks work out for Columbus!

I think they're giving up much for a prospect that need to be fixed in serveral aspects of the game. And there are rumors out there about his attitude/personality - this would be a red flag for me. So it's a very risky move in my eyes.

Hunt, a first, a second + some late picks is a big package for another prospect with flaws like skating in todays NHL.

Worth noting that Columbus fans were clamoring for him to play in the NHL. It’s not like he’s a baby giraffe out there who they all agreed wasn’t ready (think Rossi two years ago).

Gave up none of our top prospects, gambling on upside, don't mind this at all. Say what you will about guerin but he makes bold moves that often work out in our favor. We seem to be in a great position for a very competitive future, just need to lock kap up for 8 years.

Many were not, and agreed that he should be sent down. His flaws were quite evident.
Best way to look at him is the way we looked at Rossi two years ago, when he was too weak and slow to be an effective NHL'er. Jiricek is a tall guy, but young, and gangly. He needs to hit the gym, and eat right. Once he puts on 20 good lbs and matures physically he will have the tools to better compete out there on the ice.

I don’t like the 55 number. I wish he went with 5.

Ope I guess I forgot Middleton exists

My favorite NHL jersey of all time. A Satan Devils jersey would beat it, but, sadly, fate did not grace us with that one.

Not to get your hopes up, but he had a son who's an 18 year old with the Caps organization. The dream isn't dead yet

This is pretty much my take. Hunt was blocked, and we have Buium coming up in the next 2-3 years who would have likely overtaken him too.

We didn’t trade Rossi, Wallstedt, Buium, Yurov, or any of our high-ceiling forwards.

It’s a textbook big balls Billy move.

Yeah, Hunt didn't really have a clear path to lots of minutes with the team, even though he deserved a shot. Middleton and Brodin have a couple/few more years in them, and Buium is coming. Getting a 3rd pairing LHD is pretty easy to do, should all of our prospects come to nothing(which, unfortunately, is starting to look likely).

I wonder if we can still get some forward help in exchange for Peart and/or Lambos

look at this in reverse, IF jiricek was so good why would they trade him? people say he skates slow and his stats are nothing to brag about. what about his game makes him worth anywhere near what we paid? who cares he was 6th overall.

Why did the Isles trade Nino?

This team needed a Top 4 RD to replace Spurgeon in the next 3 years. Bringing in a former 6th overall pick that is two years into his development makes a lot of sense for our timeline. Defensemen take more time to develop too, so there’s still value in the fact that he was taken 6th overall & was considered a Top 10-15 prospect just a year ago.

Think of trading a late 1st, 2nd, and 2 3rds for the 6th overall pick in any draft. I’d be willing to bet it works out for the team getting that player most of the time.

The reports on Jiricek are so bipolar. So many are saying he is a talented defenseman with some skating issues that can be ironed out. Others are like he'll be in Europe in two years.
