Curses don't exist (Karma does)

It's a blessing - short term and forces Claude to use kids and see exactly where they are

Otherwise Claude would call the Hockey Player Store and order a box of Schallers (I like him but Claude would go with a half dozen of them

As you probably already know DKH, I have cursed the stinking Habs since their last cup in 1993 for a 40 year drought at the time and it has paid great dividends to my sanity thus far.....I guess we can call it Karma after all....We both win.

I think Joe Thornton might have had it done when he was 20?

I remember Joe having a staph infection in his elbow when he was young, but I don't know if it was a bursa thing like this.

In any case, the Backes problem can be caused by a number of things. Could simply be an infection or could have been caused by impact on the elbow. You can be more susceptible to it as you age, but it's something that could easily happen to someone younger. This is kind of a freak injury so I definitely don't agree with pointing to this as evidence that age is catching up with him or whatever.

Bruins’ David Backes sidelined after elbow procedure

NEW YORK — Their season already an addendum to Grey’s Anatomy, chapter: sports injuries, the Bruins on Monday took another hit to their offensively challenged forward corps when prized free agent David Backes underwent elbow surgery.

Dr. Ben Wedro, a long-time emergency room physician in Wisconsin and a regular contributor to Webmd.com, noted that surgery is not common for such injuries. Typically, said Wedro, such injuries are treated either by ibuprofen or aspirated (i.e. drained), even in cases when the elbow area becomes infected.

In cases that are slow to respond to conventional treatment, Wedro wrote in an e-mail to the Globe, an arthroscope is used to remove the bursa sac that covers the olecranon, which is the inner, or pointy portion, of the elbow

How has he been for you guys this year?

Comes as advertised. Leadership off the charts. Plays hard and physical. Looks like he still has the ability to put up 50-60 points and will have the shot to get to those marks since he's been attached to Krejci on the second line and getting 1st unit PP time. Great as a net front presence. Slow on turns and lacks acceleration but makes up for it with smart positioning, hustle, and overall awareness of the play.

Is it too early to say that the Backes and Krecji tandem doesn't really work? I'm not feeling much chemistry. Alternative options are limited though.

My only hesitation is that Krejci admitted 3 games ago that he wasn't 100%. So if he wasn't 100% 3 games ago, what was he in games 1 or 5 or 10? Maybe Backes is better off at center, but that leaves a giant hole on Krejci's wing. Last year Spooner had 50+ points as a center, now he's on pace for 29. So we have 2 centers now playing wing and both are underproducing. If Backes goes back to center and starts producing, they've still lost Spooner's production. If Spooner goes back to fulltime center and starts producing, then Backes better figure it out. Compared to last year at this time, the PP is way off,Eriksson had 18 points in the first 20 games and his replacement has 8,Spooner had 11 points versus 7 and Bergeron had 20 points versus 5.

No, not at all. In fact, it's too late. The only person who doesn't see that it's a bad fit is Claude.

Clodes problem is that he worries way too much about the defensive side of a line. I sometimes just shake my head at his line combos. Seems like he's always fitting a square in a round hole. He had a successful line two years ago with Spooner. It carried the team to an extent, why not try to repeat that line? Screw the defensive liability, it isn't working and they don't score. It almost seems like this team was just put together recently. They just dump try to cycle and are always on the wrong side where the puck is. Granted the skill isn't all that great. Look at Carlo. He started off with a slap shot on net when he had the puck at the blue line. Now, he throws the lazy wrister. It's a system that is boring when you don't have the correct bodies to bang the other team. Do people want that number one for the defensive presence or the puck moving , shooting offense. I'll tell what, who ever the get will turn into a lazy wrister shooting defenseman. Why bother.
Wrong thread for the rant. Who did Backes play with in St. Louis?

Backers does not look good on the wing and Krecji just doesn't look good at all. Drives me nuts on the power play.

I've said this before but the way this team uses it's winger (singular) to attack and forecheck, Backes is a bad fit on the wing.

The numbers show clearly that he was more successful at C in a Bruins uniform.

Meanwhile, you have both Krejci and Bergeron struggling a bit, and instead of trying something else, and using Backes to support them in the center position by taking some of the load off of them, Claude refuses to use Backes in that way.

Yep. Nothing is going to change because the guy in charge doesn't want to. It's a rigid inflexibility that Claude has demonstrated since day one. Makes me crazy to watch him roll the same **** out night after night and suddenly expecting a different result than before.

I keep asking posters to tell me another team in the league that plays dump and chase on the PP when they have a man advantage and everyone keeps ignoring it. That strategy, which is Claude's responsibility, is a huge reason why this team sucks. To Claude the goal of the 2 minutes on the PP isn't to create valid scoring chances. It's to not give up a goal the other way.

Get him off Krechs line its not working both of then are slow as mud. I knew he was big and a good net presence, locker room guy but is he declining in front of our eyes, he will be 33 this season. That contract end term is going be an anchor. Put him with Bergy and let Backes take center, give Krech Pasta back and Spooner. Pasta can get them both going and give us a real 2nd line scoring threat. Beleskey is a checker and does not have the hands to be in the top6.

I'm all for speed however I like Backes...not completely slow and has some pretty slick passing skills. How about allowing a Spooner to center Backes and Krejci...Perhaps Mr Krejci needs a new role?

He looked just fine playing C in two preseason games and the first 3 games of the season. 9 points in those 5 games. Showed a chemistry with Pastrnak.

He's been ineffective as a winger. Whether it is the system, line-mates, whatever, it's not working with Backes at RW.

Last year it was Brouwer and Steen, his most successful production was with Oshie and Steen.

Just to add to that, last night against the Flames , Krug gained the line with speed and nobody checking him and instead of taking it straight to the net , he slaps it around the boards and out of the zone! The B,s are fantastic at killing their own pp.
I'm starting to think the B,s should put both our D in front of the net on our pp because they are terrific at screening the goalie and tipping the puck in the net!

Krejci would never give up his role at center, just my opinion. He also isn't a 7m winger.

Breaking those 2 up could result in breaking up Bergeron with Pasternak and Marchand and we all know that there is zero accountability towards Patrice and he can't have his feelings hurt no matter how disappointing his play.

I see a very very easy fix to the terrible play of Krejci and Bergeron and that is to make them 2nd/3rd line centers and make Backes the clear cut #1. I bet we'd have won all of our games this week if we did that.

The laughable Bergeron feelings aside. I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Spooner-Backes-Pasta
Marchy-Dk-Bergy
Beleskey-Nash-Czarnik
Schaller-Moore-Hayes

The 3rd and fourth could use an injection of heinen with the removal of hayes. He had 2 for prov tonight i believe.

Let bergy work through his funk on the wing taking draws and d-roles. A slower pace with dk and marchy than pasta and marchy.

Spooner-backes-Pasta has potential, pasta looked good with backes in the preseason and could be a mix-up of the lucic and the cubs line 2 years ago. Once dk picks it up give him beleskey and czar/heinen and the other goes with bergy and marchy.

Spooner-Backes-Pasta becomes the third once dk and pb pick it up. Fourth line of Schaller-Moore-x(not hayes) would be good, maybe let heinen break in there or call up cehlarik.
