Don't know if I really want Julien to be the coach. Talk down here is that he favours veterans over the young guys and has used strange line combos at times. Might not be the best for our young guys (mind you, there aren't many vets on our team so he would have to use the kids). If team defense is #1 priority, then you have to go after Hitch if he is given the boot.

I'm getting this feeling more and more that Pierre Dorion is simply a puppet string GM [in title only]...for BM

Lets not kid ourselves, BM is still very much in charge of this Org

Seriously? Come on man, let's see what he does in a few months, not after a few days.

I swear some of you will never be happy.

Oh well Wamsley was a bit surprising. He did a fine job here.

But I guess they just want to get the next HC ultimate power over his staff.

The thing I think I appreciate most about this hire and the ensuing discussions and interviews is that it's really bringing out those who likely won't be happy with anything that's said or done.

That's what I was thinking.

The pre-conceived notions and biases are easy to pin-point.

Apparently Dorion was supposed to rip into every player on the team, can't say anything positive about the exit interviews!

He does. Mentioned we potentially have 5 or 6 (I forget) 20 goal scorers on this team, we need to commit to defense. Mainly team defense was the big stress here. 30th in SA, PK and PP are unacceptable. His quote is "were not that far off".

But, it didn't sound from his tone that there will be minor changes, I think we might see some major ones actually. But that's just me reading into it.

Would love to see some big changes personally.
Hope your hunch is correct.

Really liking Dorion so far. Saying a lot of good things. Hopefully he holds true to what he's saying and is able to push us to another level.

He said 9 potential 20 goal scorers

Mac, Turris, Ryan
Hoffman, Zibby, Stone
Smith,Pageau (19 goals) are all players who have hit 20

Karlsson (19,20,21)

That gives us 9 players
Yep with potential for more if we could ever learn to ,keep the puck out of our dzone for longer periods of time

He did say Dreidger and O'Connor were up & down all season, and he thinks they both have the talent to be NHL goalies. He thinks that goalies themselves are the most responsible for their own performance. Can infer new goalie coach most importantly a fit with the coach than with the goalie.

So in a nutshell, no big loss.

You know who else said good things on his first interview? Dave Cameron.

Dorion puppet, failure GM confirmed.

I liked that one of the reporters asked about Wamsley.

I guess Pierre Dorion's answer makes sense. Give the guy coming in a completely blank slate so he can pick the people he thinks will be best.
Hasn't there been a lot of guys who have stayed on through coaching changes up until this point?
A completely fresh start makes the most sense if that's the case.

Aside from that - just standard hockey cliches from Dorion. It's like every other GM presser ever... except maybe Kevin Lowe, MacTavish and company going down in flames "I WON MORE STANLEY CUPS THAN YOU CRITICS!".

I think it could be a simple public relations tactic....BM knows he the fanbase cant swallow another firing of a Head Coach by him...so he gets his AGM to do it ...while he gets to call the shots

Think about it....Dorion never officially/indisputably said he had Final Say on any matters...

This might be unpopular here, but I wish we could have the 2004 Tampa Bay version of John Tortorella, with his "safe is death" system. We know this team isn't exactly built to be a safe grinding team, with the style of play and the strenghts and weaknesses of our best players. Why not go with our strengths and just try to overwhelm teams with pressure hockey?

When the on-ice performance is lackluster, one becomes a press-conference aficionado. So even if his talent for coaching and player scouting sucks, we will continue to be entertained in the scrum.

I don't think we were listening to the same interview... he specifically said "It was absolutely my call, and it felt like the right move."

But I suppose you'd expect him to say that if he's just a puppet, right?!?

Budget aside,

I trust management to make the right decision, and don't just hand the keys over to Julien and not even listen or give other potential coaching candidates(Boucher, Dineen) a decent chance at the job.

I think he's said he has the final say in every one of his interviews/press conferences so far.

A classic case of confirmation bias if I've ever seen one.

Quite a few in this thread. Their mind is made up that Dorion is a failure as a GM and nothing he says or does will change that.

He could flip Bobby Ryan for Silfverberg and Lindholm, sign Stamkos and trade Zack Smith for Carey Price and these people would STILL complain.

That's uh... quite a stretch there friend.

Judging by body language and composure in general Dorion seems to be fairly confident when addressing the media. I don't think that confidence is coming from being a puppet.

Yeah, but how many wins did player on a non-playoff team Carey Price get this year?

Yeah, that's what I thought. :p:
