Darren Helm

1st line: Datsyuk
2nd line: Weiss
3rd line: Helm
4th line: Glendening

By centers in Wings. Possible.

Sheahan is reserve center next season.

Sheahan is a reserve center?

That's not at all what our centers will look like next year.

Babs said that Helm is a better winger an d has barely played center this year. Z is out and Weiss is still a 4th line Winger. Why would they be moved to 2nd and 3rd line centers?

I gotta tell ya, I've been pleasantly surprised with Helm being on Datsyuk's line. I know some posters hate the idea of that but that line has been owning for most of the year. I always hate the idea of when Helm's name gets tossed in a trade proposal because I feel he is way more valuable to the Wings then what his actual trade value is. Love the way he draws penalties. One of my favorite Wings players.

Yeah, I don't get the backlash against Helm up there with Datsyuk. He looks great, the line looks great, Datsyuk continues to be dangerous. I mean, Zetterberg's best year came when he was flanked by Sammy and Homer. Just because a star isn't being set up with other 1st liners doesn't mean it's a problem.

It's because he doesn't have the hands you would expect out of top-6 forward. I confess I didn't like the idea of Helm with Datsyuk when Babs dreamed it up in pre-season, but the results on ice speak for themselves. His speed and hard work are effective.

Helm actually doesn't have bad hands, he just sucks at finishing for the most part. He has good puck control and can make some nice moves. A little Holmstrom like, in that he has more skill than he gets credit for. His role on that line is mostly about puck retrieval and net front presence, but I really like the element he brings to our top 6.

I think the Tats/Dats/Helm line has been BY FAR the best line on this team so far this season...it's not even close. IMO it's one of the best lines in the league, and I'm almost sad that we can't see this line with Datsyuk in his prime...him having that extra step or two he doesn't have anymore would make that line the best on the planet. The growth of Darren Helm should be talked about more on here...he's squarely in his prime at 28 and he's playing his best hockey. Really like his game right now.

Ok, what's up with you haha. Trolling? Pretty much every post you make is totally out to lunch. And I mean like coo coo crazy out to lunch.

Wasn't it you that wanted to trade z and clearly straight up for Kunitz?

What's with Helm's name being dropped in conversations (among posters) of a trade lately? Is it that you don't want him on Pavs wing anymore? Won't be able to afford him when he gets a raise? (never bought into this argument myself) Not enough room with all the other wingers coming up? (again something I haven't bought in to) I've said it in here before and I'll say it again, Helm is worth way more to the Wings than what we would get for him in a trade, even if its in a package deal.

There is a risk he bolts away after next when he is UFA. And because of the price he would get in open market, he could become overpaid and replaced salarycap-vise better with cheaper prospects.

I just can't see us carrying both Helm and Abdelkader, and because Abby is the only real physical player in our top9, I'd rather keep him. We have speed in prospects like Larkin and Athanasiou, who can replace Helmer's toolbox.

IMO its just to get him out of the top lines. I don't understand the wings insistance of having people so offensively challenged on the top lines. I get that Abby had a career year but I doubt he ever tops or matches it. Helm and Abby both in the top 6 just needs to stop if I had to choose one or the other to stay there it would be Abby.

Yeah, ridiculous. Helm is best suited as a winger ala the Helm-Dats-Tats line next year.

Yep. I don't even think we should consider him a part of our center depth at all at this point. Long term, for the sake of his health, he's a winger. He can play center in a pinch but he's not taking Sheahan's spot.

I think 99% of us agree on that.

I also think Helm can be undersold at times, dude has no finish - that doesn't mean he isn't a useful player.

He can't finish to save his life, but I've always thought his vision in the O-zone has been under rated.

For the record his 5 on 5 point production is second (third) only to Larkin (and Datsyuk factoring in the injury).

On this team I have no problem with him playing a second line forechecking wing.
