Then no trade. Oiler fans need to stop trying to dump off Nurse on us. Benning is gone, that shit wont work anymore. Hes your problem except for an overpay

Oh no, I guess we have to keep our best defenseman that we don't want to trade.

How will we ever manage. :sarcasm:

Nurse is clearly greater than OEL, but not so much (and not in a way that makes Vancouver in a rush to dump OEL) that the difference between the two should be a 1st. OEL is cheaper, still serviceable and at worst our #3 (Hughes, Schenn given his solid play on the top pair). Edmonton can keep Nurse, and I'm perfectly happy building around Hughes, Schenn, OEL and whoever is the #4 (hopefully someone like Dorion still exists out there who would feel that we're gifting Myers to them for a 3rd!)

Nurse is on a pretty bad team so it’s difficult to value him but he’s probably worth a bit more than Barrie so about the $5.6M that he’s currently making.

Unfortunately that means that his value is that of a $5.6M player with $3,650,000*8 or $29.2M of future over payment.

That’s pretty bad. He’s probably untradeable unless Edmonton retains A LOT.
This guy doesn't even check the standings, wtf HF ?

The contract Nurse signed is really rich right now. I personally don't see him as a #1D, although I do see him as a 1st pairing guy.

In a few years his contract won't seem so outrageous. Also, I see a lot (and I mean a LOT) of hatred towards Darnell Nurse on here. Way more than is warranted. Where are all of you on Seth Jones? He signed the contract that defined the market. He has been more like Tyson Barrie than Victor Hedman this year. Yet he is paid as a top NHL defenseman. Chicago is near dead last in the league. Nurse's fancy stats are better. Where is the hate towards Jones?

Posters on here are strangely quiet on that front.
Jones isn’t an Oilers player, everyone here loves to dump on the Oilers

At worst Nurse is a high-end #2D. At his best you could argue he's a lower tiered #1D. Nurse is overpaid. 2 million per in my opinion. He's still a top pairing D even if you're being overly critical of the player vs contract.

OEL is a 3-4 guy now. Clearly no longer a top tier top pairing guy. His contract also isn't great.

I'd rather have an overpaid top pairing guy vs an overpaid 2nd pairing one. You'd have to be quite the homer to say you'd pick OEL + contract over Nurse + contract. Yet here we are on HF where I expect someone to say you'd have to include multiple 1st rounders with Nurse for OEL.

As for the OP, neither side does this. That Vancouver pick could be quiet high and they aren't at the point to be trading more 1st rounders away. Edmonton isn't down grading on D to add a pick when they are trying to become a contender (I know the Oilers aren't a contender-it's the direction they are trying to go). That Nurse overpayment proves management while incompetent is going for it.

OEL is a #3-4 with a cap hit of $7.26m for 5 more years.

Nurse is a #2-3 with a cap hit of $9.25m for 8 more years.

Honestly both contracts are boat anchors...give me the one that ends 3 years earlier.

Canucks should've just kept Tanev and Toffoli.

Nurse is in no way a #3D. Nice sell job.

I doubt any team wants a piece of that contract. Nurse is a good player being payed like a superstar. OEL is a second pairing guy being paid like a top pairing guy.

One guy plays for Edmonton and half these forums are Canuck fans who hate the Oilers. It’s really that simple.

Go look at the polls section, quite a few take Jones over Nurse. That’s why

Why would the Oilers want anything to do OEL's contract (and play)?

View attachment 523848

Nurse is a known quantity. Overpaid by $2M/yr but still top-4 NHL D-man.

OEL... I have no idea. He has flashes but he's not the same as a couple years ago.

OEL's been good this year. Hes still 0.5 PPG player for his career, even with his decline in AZ & lack of offense in VAN.

His stats are down more this season, understandably b/c he hasn't gotten PP time ahead of Hughes, but he's logging big mins & is still a definite top 3D.

He's overpaid by about 1M & his contract is shorter than Nurse's (plus the buyout in the last few years is <2M, so not bad). Nurse is a better player, but personally I wouldn't swap them 1 for 1 given contracts.
