Proposal: Darnell Nurse for Anthony Mantha

Nurse and 3rd for Mantha and Hicketts

As a wings fan, I'd do this.
Mantha is awesome and I like the kid alot, Big body winger with good skating ability and nice hands.
Detroit needs D though and that position holds more value than winger.

Hicketts is a serviceable 6 / 7 that plays the game hard. I think most Detroit fans like the kid. He has room to grow in his game. He's only 5'8 and the Red Wings seem to be trending away from small players, but the kid is scrappy and plays bigger than he is.

This is a win-win trade imo.
Mantha would thrive next to McDavid.
Nurse is the right age and player type Detroit needs on the back end.
Nurse /Hronek paring would be great to see.

I would not listen to what Oilers fans say . If you listen to Hitchcock he has raved about Nurse . Nurse plays better with more ice time . As for fans they can be a fickle bunch . Read some of the pages on HF Oilers and at times McDavid gets crap .

Add Draisaitl to that mix. A large portion of Oilers fans have despised Nurse since the moment he was drafted and no matter what he does, or how he plays, they hate the player and his game. Just glad they're not the team's GM; regardless of how terribad Chia is.

Holy F at Oiler fans wanting to trade Nurse for a winger... unless you are getting a true upgrade in value you never trade D for W. NEVER!

I don't care how weak we are at W... trade away Nurse and see how pathetic out already questionable D is,,, guys like Jones, Bear and Bouchard have proven absolutely nothing at the NHL level. You might as well wait on guys like Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, McLeod and Benson, if you are counting on those young D to play in the NHL.

The thing is, the second guys like Jones, Bouchard and Bear don't pan out immediately like some have envisioned in their mind, they'll be treated like garbage just the same way Nurse is being treated at the moment.

We’ve heard this story before. Prospects are prospects. Why not give up a battle-tested, young, number 3 defenceman to make room for em?

The Oilers add a much needed sniper to their top 6 with Mantha. He could be dynamite beside McDavid or Draisaitl. Caleb Jones has been playing in top-4 role and has been outstanding.

The Wings drafted three forwards in Zadina, Veleno, and Berggren with their top 3 picks last year, and have a glaring need for defense.

So Darnell Nurse for Anthony Mantha? Both were bridged this offseason for 2 years, and their AAVs are only 100k apart.

Giving up a good young defenseman requires an overpayment. Mantha is not an overpayment for Nurse

The entire reason Detroit would trade Mantha is an excess of wingers in the system, so Pulju coming back doesn’t really make sense. Bertuzzi has good value as an up-and-down the lineup guy who can fit into any line really he’s not someone the Wings should trade given his age and versatility. If the Oilers were targeting Mantha+Bertuzzi I’d imagine the Wings would target Jones instead of Nurse.

Id much rather give up Jones tbh. He's still not an established NHL'er. I can't imagine they'd even think about taking Jones as the main piece in a deal for Mantha + Bertuzzi.

Hmm...

I mean Blake Wheeler was a 40 point winger when he was 24, then he finally put it altogether and started dominating. A lot of Wings fans see that kind of potential from Mantha, he has all the tools needed to reach that kind of level. He plays on a bad team with a very bad defense that cannot transition the puck up to the forwards. This limits his offensive chances and ultimately his production. The cliche he's better than his stats would apply. For the most part you wont find many Wings fans looking to move him, that should tell you something.

As someone who has watched a lot of Hitchcock press conferences over the years, I would recommend taking his "ravings" with a huge grain of salt. I vividly remember him raving about how great Paajarvi was, for example.

I'm not saying Nurse is that quality of player. He's clearly not. I'm just saying that I would strongly recommend against anyone taking anything that Hitchcock has to say about his players in his press conferences as gospel.
