Legend in his and many people's minds sure. Longevity helps that narrative.
Tell me, how many PPVs did you purchase because you just had to see the latest iteration of the same old match that slimebag wrestled? Chops, WOO, fall face down, WOO, try to go to the ropes...etc.

Sure, beating up his own clothes promos were entertaining, but who actually paid to see that horsecrap?
He stuck around forever for all of WCW's lowest moments, was a big fat nothing in WWF/E beyond his initial push.

Today, he is nothing but a pathetic vile sleazebag of a man that hasn't quite had his Ron Jeremy (another "legend") moment yet.

A lot of people paid money to see Ric Flair. You cannot deny his draw power in his prime. I'm going out on a limb and assuming you've never seen a Flair match in his prime. I'm not talking about his out of ring antics, just talking about within wrestling and he is definitely a legend there.

And he was only in WWE for a year in that run and did some pretty memorable things.

But back on topic, what does scumbag Flair still have against Kanyon after all of these years?

"I wasn’t a huge Kanyon fan as a worker," like he was The Great Khali or Giant Gonzales in the ring.

Sure, Kanyon wasn't top of the card, but a very solid wrestler when needed.
I would rather see the Flatliner one more time than drunken chops from a half-dead mummy.

Plus you’re on Howard Stern for a reason.

Objectively speaking Kanyon was a better worker than Flair from like 1995 on, so to make that claim Flair’s got some real balls (that he’ll force somebody to touch against their will)

Thinking about it more and WWE absolutely did the Boy George thing on purpose to f*** with Kanyon and that chair shot by undertaker was disgraceful

I was a big fan of Kanyon. I don't think he was ever going to be a main eventer but could have been a solid mid carder in WWE. I remember randomly wanting an Edge vs. Kanyon feud in 2003. I think this was before Edge got hurt but Kanyon was close to returning.

His lisp certainly didnt help his chances at being a main eventer. Hard to do promos and what not.

Personally, I have always thought he was overrated. But thats not the point of this thread.

Of course they did, whole thing was uneasy to watch. I'm a little surprised there hasn't been more backlash towards Taker for that chair shot either. I listened to Cornette's podcast this week and they discussed the episode for not even 10 minutes, I'm not sure if the chair shot even came up.

Did you know Onita and Matt Tremont are supposed to have an exploding death match on Halloween at the Trenton Thunder ballpark (Tremont is a person who Onita respects as much as anyone in wrestling).

That Megumi Kudo match they showed was actually her retirement match, and it’s really one of the more incredible things I’ve seen in wrestling, not necessarily the match but just the whole thing around it. They list that show on Wikipedia as the main event so Mick might remember it wrong that he had to follow that match but there were others she was involved in where he was on the same show anyways.

They didn’t even show half of what she went through once that match was over. She cut a promo in the ring, and then they finally got her out of there and to the back where Onita and Hayabusa are there with her, but also like a bunch of photographers and they just like left her laying on the ground with everyone around her before they realized she was actually really in a bad way, then Onita and Hayabusa used their shirts to wring water on her and I guess cover some of the burns. Then they move her again and they leave her with some of the other women on the roster where she hands over the titles (although supposedly there was a ceremony later on where she officially vacated the titles, within a few months I think they just abandoned their women’s division altogether). Then they just cover her head to toe in blankets like she’s dead and whisk her away in an ambulance. It was both so raw and yet so strange to watch.

Kudo and the women were also over pretty big in FMW and I think Onita and the like expected her to come back but she stayed retired, only doing some commentary. I watched a bunch of her stuff once they were doing the exploding barbed wire deathmatch in AEW

the actual in-ring to the match wasn’t so great, the finish was strange but it still had the crowd. They showed the fireball spot but there’s also one where she takes a powerbomb to the floor onto a barbed wire wooden board and the first time I saw it I thought she landed on her head, I don’t know how she got up.

Anyways, now you know where I came up with the idea for the all time draft this year. Once I saw it I felt I had to service the idea.

wish they had more time to talk about her on the show, she was an important part of FMW. Got cut by All-Japan and went to be a kindergarten teacher and then came back to do crazy wrestling shit.

Shoutout to Mike Awesome for saving Sabu from the yakuza

Also funk is classic funk
I could've sworn Funk had dementia. While he seemed slow, he seemed okay to me. Must've caught him on a good day

yeah it seemed like he was in rough shape not all that long ago but then I also read or heard somewhere that he was same old Terry. Definitely seemed like Terry Funk in that interview. I can listen to him talk forever lol

I can listen to any ex-athlete that is willing to tell stories.

We had story time on a local radio station here in Edmonton that was mainly ex-nhlers, but sometimes other athletes and it's so great.

It's funny after watching the FMV episode it reminded me how sometimes episodes I don't expect to like I end up liking. Just like Peter McNab on local storytime. I had the exact same feeling before both shows, almost felt as if it would be a waste of time. Then they turn out to be very interesting.

Wonder when they do the dark side of the ring about Saudi Arabia. Probably have access to enough people by now.

Bruiser Bedlam episode was fascinating
I can’t say I knew anything about the guy before hearing about it, so I find it interesting when they do these episodes.

Mike Awesome should have had a superstar career before Russo got a hold of him. Dude was 6'6'', had the look, and was incredible athlete for his size. Doesn't surprise me that some Yakuza backed down when he came running in.

The Luna episode was really good. Sucks how she was an aside in her later years. I never cared about her character in that time (or any other Oddities), but I'd always liked her earlier stuff and thought she was way better than that.
