Could you link me to the original post that discussed it? I can then listen to the podcast myself for the quote.

They’re probably hyperbolizing an event like the Wild not being permitted to talk to Kaprizov at the world juniors however many years ago. Anything they say will likely be pro Russia and taken with a grain of salt.

See post #698 in the thread below. Also see Russo's article that basically insinuates the same thing. His entire Athletic article is flat out ridiculous. The piece even include a picture of Putin. Lololololol

Journalists like him prey on dumb people's confirmation bias. Melodrama sells. Holds true for both sides.
Alright, now back to Yurov.

Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov remains in Russia amid reports of fake military ID, flight to U.S.
LW/RW Kirill Kaprizov - CSKA Moscow, KHL (2015, 135th, MIN)

I mean, this isn't outlandish.
Typically, CSKA Moscow players have been exempt from military service in the past. That might be an informal rule, though. “You’re in the Army, but your job is to play hockey,” one Russian source said. “Somebody’s job is to drive a tank and your job is to hold a stick.”
This isn't limited to hockey. E-sports have had the same things where players can get exemption but some could not so they had to take a 1-2 years off to fulfill military duties. This is with South Korea, on a regular day, that wasn't in the first stages of a war, and not on teams that are rooted with governemnt (other than maybe SKT Telecom). No one gives a hoot about LoL gaming here -.- yet they still had to deal with that.

This article is just about all the uncertainties and no one can deny how many unknowns there were with the war, specifically deals with the unknowns of a current hockey superstar thats intertwined with a national team in a middle of a war, and government heavily influenced/run by Putin

I'm not saying that applies to Yurov - I'm not one of the posters that can't just see a horse as a horse - less production might just be a less a successful season. And he's not a country superstar like Kaprizov, and I've always seen Yurov as top six forward so this season just implies he might be closer to Rossi than he is Kaprizov, a good 1st line, very good 2nd liner.

Anyways, I'm gonig to leave this discussion. This thread is about Yurov and not about Russo/Kaprizov. Feel free to respond and I will read but will not reply so you can have final say

He’s been overrated by most fans here for awhile. Let’s not forget the fans that were clamoring to trade Rossi bc Yurov was going to walk into a Top 6 C role.

Nobody was “clamoring” to trade Rossi here. Yurov was a top 10 draft talent that fell due to the Russia invasion. Let’s not sour on the guy because he is down from last year’s production.

That entire article was speculation based on hysterics and a good guy v bad guy mentality, not common sense. Nothing actually had anything to do with war, or Putin, or whatever. But that didn't stop that Russo fool.
And since when does CSKA have anything to do with the Army anymore? lolol

I mean if it's so dangerous, why did Kaprizov return this past summer too?

FYI it's not like Russia doesn't have this bad reporting either. Dumb people will believe dumb shit regardless of where they're from.

But yes, good discussion. Back to Yurov.

Im not soured on him. I just think he became overrated by a lot of fans. He was seen as this mystical player who would waltz immediately into a huge role here and be a 1C etc.

And there were plenty of people who wanted to move Rossi

There was plenty of talk about trading rossi because yurov was going to be the #1 center but most of it before this season.

Some Russian watchers said Yurov was more Buchnevich than a star 1st line player like Kaprizov. More offense than Marat, but not an elite player like Kap. I don't mean to be negative... the guy appears to have nice size, skating, and some skills. Also playing C might hinder his production, especially in Russia , where wingers tend to be the scoring stars.

The search goes on for a Star Center, but those guys are really hard to find. We've never had one.

If you want an unbiased opinion of Yurov, you could ask Hawks fan @EbonyRaptor .
He/she regularly follows Yurov’s teammate Kantserov.

I like Yurov a lot and have commented several times I would love to have the coach put he nd Kantserov on the same line because I like him better than Zernov who is Kantserov's center now.

Yurov has good speed, good hands, decent playmaker, decent shot (but not exceptional), plays responsible defense and has an overall game that I think translates well to the NHL. I think he will be a very good 2C/3C in the NHL.

To address a couple comments that implied Yurov wasn't getting regular ice time due to political reasons - I've watched a lot of games this season since Kantserov came back from injury (about 20 of the last 25 games) and much like last season Magnitogorsk rolls 4 lines with the top-3 lines getting about equal 5-on-5 TOI. So - no - Yurov is not getting less 5-on-5 time. He is usually on the 2nd PP unit and he doesn't get much/any PK time.

Well, Yurov and Stramel.

There was talk about trading Rossi because Russo put him in rumors.

i've never thought yurov was the next kaprizov. im hoping a 1st line of hemi kaprizov / rossi / yurov is a match made in heaven.
I think that’s reasonable. I’m excited for the versatility he should bring to the table. Boldy needs a winger who he can get out in transition and make plays with, maybe that’s Yurov. Not sure Ohgren fits that mold as well.

Well, Yurov and Stramel.
Not sure how Stramel has been overrated. We had him as our 17th best prospect as a board. He’s clearly in the Top 10 now with some posters, like me, preferring him over Heidt. And others still dubious about his long-term upside.

I was talking about the 'clamoring to trade Rossi part'. It was a subpar joke.
