Slaf standing off to the side of the net is not accomplishing much. Dach will screen and move through the crease like Kreider did last evening. We can't rely solely on Laine to score goals and with guys Suzuki Hutson and sometime Caufield manning the point we need players who know how to time their screens. We have three players who can get pucks through it becomes about placement and not power.

Teaching a player to move in front of the net from the side should be coachable shouldn't it? I think he is standing there because that is what he is being coached to do. If it was as simple as moving his gyatt in front of the goalie, you would think the coaches would have spotted that and corrected it. I think they want him there for the cross crease pass.

That isn't my point Kreider will often be off to the side of the net as will Dach.The trick is to know when to slide in front taking away the goaltenders eyes it's very much an art. The concept is teachable for sure it's something he should already be doing automatically there is no way the coaching staff is telling in to stay stationary off to the side. Yeah, Slaf is not bringing a lot on that first powerplay unit. I think it would be more dangerous with Dach

It's a bit like last year. The energy is there now and he's getting opportunities to score nearly every game. His vision is already elite. He's definitely turned a corner, and hopefully he can exceed last years production down the stretch.

The Rangers adjusted to Laine as pointed out during the broadcast last evening. We need more shots coming from the right side short passes on their own don't do a heck of a lot. There should be 5 points of attack on any decent PP and if you aren't willing to use them all the power plays becomes that much easier to defend.
Most goaltenders will eat up shots they see from distance that's why deflections and screen shots are highly valued additions to any good power play. Suzuki has scored a fair number of goals from the right point moving in and almost every one of them had a screening element working for him. Corey Perry Sean Monahan are two eaxamples of players who did it well. Slaf just hasn't added that wrinkle to his game.
He will gain net front but he hasn't learned the timimg technique those older players have perfected.
That Dach is more adept at it this isn't up for debate.

20 G and 30 A last year..................thinking as many have stated his growth may not be linear in every part of his game. He is a much better passer this year, and gets his assists. If he starts to continue to do like he did last night, and go to the net.......the goals will come.
Not concerned from my perspective......

IMO he’s more than fine. He’ll be a key cog in a well oiled Cup machine. Expect torrents of mud poured on this player because other fans hate the Habs recent success, and the fact it’s almost impossible to attack Hutson and Demidov. Those two are causing extreme jealousy and granted Slaf being the low hanging fruit , he’s an easy target. They’ll also pump Cooley to the moon. We already have the qualities of this player in others a couple of times over.

He's really starting to be a terror on the boards, outside of his rookie year he was always good at winning battles along the boards using his stick. His stickwork was good enough that he could steal pucks but he'd only use his body to protect the puck, so on the forecheck you'd see him reaching in with his stick and not throwing a hit. But last week or two he's been throwing that weight around a lot more, there's the big hits that catch everyone's attention but there's also a number of times per game where he's thrown a separation type hit which have caused the puck to pop free, usually right to Caufield. It's been really effective and no doubt how we want him to play.

He's a bigger dude and still only 20, so there's tons of time and theres always a chance he gets a little hot streak and pushes that to 20, but it's a situation to definitely keep an eye on.
