Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

Na I don't see it that way. I've spent far too much time and far too much money to accept "oh this is just the way it is".

We shouldn't accept it as fans.

A friend of mine actually works with FanDuel and they're screaming at the NHL over their officiating. He said last year they lost 10 million due to what they considered to be "league malfeasance" and are currently looking for relief through their insurance company.
There is no reason to bet on nhl games. Officials have way too much control. NHL should look at going down to one ref again. Saves $$ too

Screw the media, most of them prefer us to lose. They get more reactions and clicks “It’s good for the brand”

Clearly there are a lot of Stu supporters who flock to their bullshit posts. They think our hometown boys feeling are more important than the rest of the team.

Continued references to “team” for failures but when we win it is “Stu”

Yep, its been the same carousel with the media members especially with Jason Gregor.
Oilers media all season long:
Oilers lose = can't blame stu for that goal, that goal against is on the defense and forwards, that kind of goal is unstoppable.
Oilers win = haters say what about stuuuuu? told you soooo.

Stuart Skinner saying he needs to “work on his competitiveness”

This is how he talks in late May.

Holy f***

*from Stoney on twitter lol

That's why I get disgruntled with Stu. No gamesmanship with this guy. No fire in his belly.
We lose? Yeah well, it happens, its all good because you see losing is a part of life. Podcasts, books, etc tells me so - 74.

Have some balls and man up, seriously.

I think tonight Stu said something about needing to look around net front screens. Nice of him to pick up on that after 40 playoff games.

Marner’s little hissy fit to the players in game 7 last week had more fire than whatever comes out of Stu’s mouth.

I wonder if the longer PR leash for Stu was the team asking the media to "play nice" and wanting to prevent a Koskinen situation, not realizing that holding Stu to zero scrutiny would enable him to get progressively worse until he ultimately became more harmful to the team's success than Koskinen ever did.

To be fair they missed an almost identical "high stick" to Perry's (more like a cross check) in the neutral zone on Dallas less than a minute before they called the one on Duchene. But you're right Skinner gifted Dallas 2 powerplay goals, and Granlund has a nice snipe. Edmonton needs to be more disciplined, but refs can't miss a call if they're going to call all of those (Kulak's hook was questionable at best for the 3-2 goal).
There are always misses on penalties but that went both sides also, it happens until there is a VAR like in soccer and that no one wants. So I don't buy this BS about refs being biased.

The organization potentially caring more about hurting poor 74's precious fweelings over winning the stanley cup would be the definition of inexcusable.
Not trading for a goalie upgrade right to TDL was already inexcusable to begin with.

I don't think they're biased either, but score does impact their calls and this is well documented and discussed. I just don't think you can call 3 penalties in a row, one of which was questionable (Kulak's), and then ignore some pretty blatant ones going the other way.

I'm not blaming the refs on this one though. Oilers need to be in better control of their sticks in a game that they dominated 40 minutes of, and they only have themselves (and their goalie) to blame for letting the Stars back in a game they had no business being in after 2 periods.

Rather tiresome we always have to wait for late game on Stu to wake up from his slumber.

Would be a little more bearable if he was like a Kayle or twitch style hyper carry at least, or if he was straight op like cracklings+Ultralisks in dark swarm.

Not really a criticism, but is that true?

Personally I think we'd be far more f***ed if we didn't have Walman and ran a defence of:

Nurse-Bouchard
Kulak-Klingberg
Brown-Emberson
Dineen

I don't think we beat the Kings with that, even with a better goalie. Only chance was probably snagging Blackwood but that happened well in advance of the TDL.

Grab a goalie in the offseason.

Skinner turned a W into an L. Almost all by himself. Yet again. Its significant. It gives Dallas hope after having little of it the first two periods. A road W in game one is monumental. Skinner gave the game back. What a backbreaker goal to give up at start of third. Then the next one, and next one, and next one. I never wanted to see this fool back in our net again.

Whats it gonna take. The homecrowd jeering "Skinner" "Skinner". Somehow the home crowd loves this tool.
Do they really love him or are they just cheering for him in hopes of something good happening?

Yeah, I find it rather comical how much of a longer leash Stu has over Koskinen and Koskinen played with a much more inferior Oilers organization.

Never seen bitch ass Matheson do the bolded with Stu. The old fart continues to defend his ass like every other Oilers media member to this day.
Maybe if Skinner was European and was named Stukko Skinneninen would they ever have said anything.

Man, as infuriating as I found koski - even at his worst he would be a god send for this team.

He plays like a bronze tier level in ranked is all I can really say.
He's the support of the team but can't even support himself lol.

And you f***ing Stuart fans have the audacity to get mad that fans criticize 74?
Reaching decade levels of old ass goalies garbage goaltending in year 2025 is crazy!

Once again, its not Stu's fault.

So, if Stu is 0.011 worse than the league average, then being 0.011 worse than the league average in Fuhr's time would only put him ahead of Murray Bannerman on that list with an .874...except Bannerman only played from 1980-1987, which was probably the worst stretch for goalie save percentages in league history and Fuhr's run extended to the DPE. So...just how bad is Stu?!

If I remember right, the oilers media members like Rishaug basically said that the Oilers management didn't see a true or significant upgrade available over their current tandem on why they stood pat during the TDL.
Walman was a good trade.
Idk who they'd target for G in the offseason, but I sure hope to God its an upgrade. Tired of watching 74 go Jekyll and Hyde every game.

He reminds me of my one friend that turned me into a LeeSin / Nidalee main so I could play normals with him without the game being impossible. 😂 Just had to get to 15 minutes without him being flame horizoned.

Skinners' Goaltending bad enough to make me miss LoL and jungling in solo queue. That's... 👀

I haven't played league in years, holy shit haha. You brought up a lot of good memories.
If McDavid's on the level of Faker, then Stu had to be this guy from worlds 2014.

I think that was closer to the truth than any of us are willing to admit.

Gibson is a huge gamble. Big money and his seasons prior to this one weren't pretty. I wasn't a fan of that move as a result.

The only guy I thought would be a suitable upgrade while giving us some flexibility was Karel Vejmelka before he got his extension with Utah.

The pursuit should be a bit easier this year. We only have two major items to figure out (McDavid extension, Bouchard extension) this offseason which means the focus should be on the goaltending. I guess we'll find out if the market at TDL was that bad or if we're still dealing with the same ole BS in a few months.

Team cannot afford to run back this tandem again next season is all I can say personally.
The Oilers have all the right pieces on their team except a legitimate goalie in their net.

We have Jekyll and Hyde 74.

Lol me either, been years.

I should give my friend credit though, him forcing me to break out of the Saintvicious school of greedy jungling ultimately got me to my peak ELO outside of S1 where no one knew how to play the game. 😂

I will say, I don't miss it. Haha. I still watch worlds every once and awhile, if it's on at a reasonable hour and I realize it's happening.

Imagine skinner played in Toronto as a hometown boy like Marner

He would have to terminate his contract on his own

They again, no matter how much Toronto chokes, even they have tried improving goaltending.

The media would eat him alive. Kind of like Matheson telling kosko fans want a new goalie

Now they all glaze this guys schlong in Edmonton

Cowards. How did they crap on kosko so much? Can somebody say double standards

They’re a bunch of xenophobes

Skinner would have been chased off the team if his name was Skinnerov

For example Gregor would sound like a completely different person when talking about him if he wasn’t a local kid.

It's not biased. It's incompetent.

The problem is NHL referees are far too obsessed with balancing the game rather than doing the job assigned. They call penalties, and then ignore others for "game management". That shouldn't f***ing happen.

Call the penalties on the ice at every situation regardless of time or whatever. Just be consistent.

That's what drives me nuts. Perry gets highsticked and then his highsticking is called. McDavid gets tackled but Kane's highstick is called. Dude, just f***ing call the game. That's all I'm asking for.

I'm not sure why every penalty needs to be framed through "does this affect the outcome" because when you do that YOU AFFECT THE OUTCOME.

Last year worlds was incredible. T1 won the finals after losing the finals the previous year. I can only hope we can say the same thing for the Oilers winning the cup this year after losing last SCF.

Dallas didn’t show up for 40 though. They showed up for 5 minutes and we couldn’t handle it.
That’s a scary thought.
I'm not even sure that's true. Dallas still didn't create much 5 on 5 in the third and relied on 2 horribly misplayed PP goals by Skinner, and another nice PP goal to be in this game. The Seguin 5-3 goal was largely luck and not really anything to get worried about.

It's also incredibly rare that a team gets handed 3 power plays in a 6 minute span.

Was more a perfect shit storm than it was Dallas showing up. Edmonton shot themselves in the foot, with a lot of help from their goalie and a little help from the refs.
