Our backup is 6-0, Skinner is 2-4.

Skinner’s effort on the forth goal was amateur level in Sweden.

This game was pretty much a reversal of what we saw in game 1 of the Vegas series. We both thought it would be difficult for Vegas to recover from losing that game. Not sure I’m ready to write the Oilers off after one game but the doubts have to be there now and as you’ve pointed out there is no Pickard to save them this time. I don’t think the Oilers have the balls to throw Rodrigues in there, they didn’t even bother to pull Skinner tonight. So, that means they’re stuck with Stu and the knowledge that any puck headed towards their net could go in at any time if it doesn’t hit him. Here’s to hoping they can put 1 more Skinner debacle behind them. I just don’t know where the spark of hope comes from this time without Pickard being available.

Its a terrible way to loose because not only you down one game that you otherwise win but it feeds the opponent confidence going forward. Multiple Stars that scored were having trouble potting. Now they're not.

I'd compared it to the 97 series against the stars. The Oilers got the huge late come from behind 3 goals to tie stars and then W in OT (I was there, it was magnificent) and Stars had 4 more games to figure it out but that loss was just such a crusher.

Oilers are really good at rebounding but its just ridiculous how many times Skinner requires them to.

The Oilers didn't pull Skinner because they know they have to go with him. Hopefully Pickard is healthy soon.

Penalties and Skinner let them back in this game, albeit the PKers aren't without fault. Janmark moved out of the way of the 2nd goal, but even with that in mind every NHL goalie should have had that one even if they didn't see it, Skinner was out of position. 3rd goal whatever, great shot. 4th goal Skinner throws himself out of position and has an eternity to get back in position and doesn't. That all changed the outcome of this game, but I'm fairly confident if Skinner saves that Heiskanen muffin that they don't implode like that. Up until that point the PK was playing flawlessly and Dallas could barely even gain zone entry through the first 1.5 PP's.

Not overly worried. Team showed they can out skate, and exploit the Dallas D when their top pairing isn't on the ice. Couple posts go our way and we're going into the 3rd up 5-1 and this one is likely over. Overpassed the puck tonight as well on quality looks, and flubbed or missed the net on a couple others. Easily could have had 4 or 5 tonight and Oettinger is not the reason why they didn't.

Hoping Ekholm's back next game. Stetcher, albeit not bad tonight, does look like the weak link to the Dallas forecheck. Every other defender had very little difficulty retrieving and breaking the puck out. He didn't exactly struggle much either, but he had some moments where he got pushed off pucks.

Run it back on Friday and we should be able to come home with a split, which is really what the goal should have been.

74 is so bad that even Dan Cloutier (who was pretty bad in his own right) wasn't bad enough to make that list. Incredible!

Even in general this season Stuart has been objectively poor, and that's a fact.
He's 2-3 in the playoffs, that's a fact.
He got scored 4 goals on 9 shots in the 3rd, that's a fact.

My issue is the lack of objectivity on individual goals/individual events.

The huge arguments I found myself in were trying to explain what (from goalies perspective) was happening on a specific goal… meanwhile the masses were lighting torches based on what had happened last game or the week before.

Like I get it, as a fan it’s frustrating… but his frustrating season has eliminated any possibility of discussing the circumstance of any given single goal. Objectivity has gone out the window…. Many of you have even admitted “he hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt”. So we aren’t able to talk in a balanced way anymore… That’s my point.

Where goaltending equipment was inferior to now along with on ice competition from both forwards and defense.
Skinner would probably get lit up 8+ goals on an average basis back in the day also. What a trainwreck of a goalie.

What strawman am I being made to argue now? That Skinner is a good playoff goalie? I don’t think I’ve ever said or represented that.

I just said that GSAA is a terrible stat, doesn’t gain any value until you’ve got huge n-size…
So you are better off analyzing tape.

You posted SPCT… which I actually prefer to GSAA, since it doesn’t overlay flawed valuations of given shots… just treats them all the same.

Trust me, I want nothing more for Stu to make me eat my words and win the stanley cup on this team as the guy in net, but he's shown way too much more harm than good for me to even have a glimmer of hope or optimism that he's the guy to count on for it.

He's too Jekyll and Hyde for me to have any confidence in. I'll continue to give him props if he plays well, but if he plays like shit, I have no issue criticizing him or seeing any other posters do the exact same.

Play well? I'll praise the f*** out of you.

Dallas pretty much played their worst game but showed up for all of 5 minutes. We played our best game outside those final 5 minutes. That’s going to be a problem.

And anyway, over a sample size that small, why trust an amalgam of ~180 transposed datapoints when you could just go back and look at the tape of the 16-20 goals that actually went in and see what could (or couldn’t) have been done better….

That’s a far more productive and informative exercise

Use the whole season as a sample size. It doesn’t get better.
