Remember these are not good times for UFAs. With elite players making more and the cap not going up, you have seen the signings last summer for middle of the pack players. Not good.

He'll take less to stay here.

He needs to sit. Make sure he ends up at 18 and 15 fro 33 points. 3 years at 7 million total.

Maybe giving him a transition contract like Chucky's is best. We don't know his true potential so you sign him to a year at 2-2.5 and then we'll see what kind of player he really is. For all we know this may just be a fluke but he may very well be a late bloomer as well. Interesting situation to be in.

He is UFA i doubt he will accept a transition contract.

How about waiting till the end of the season. 15 games in a contract year does not make a hefty payday.

3 million is nothing, we are paying Lars Eller more to do less without throwing the cap structure out of whack. Give this man his money, he has proven he has soft hands and can score goals in the NHL.

Voted more because I wasn't given the option for 1.25-1.99mil

This thread reminds me of the 'should MB give Malhotra a 2 year extension' one around the same time last year.

There's 2 things that will impact contracts,

1. Next year's cap going down
2. Expansion

If the league doesn't expand but the cap goes down, a number of teams are going to be in trouble and more players will be in tough for PTO's at the start of training camp next fall. I haven't follow the expansion talk but so far it's looking very likely that the cap will being going down next year. Granted we are only about 4 1/2 months into the season so it can change and even though the loonie is way down from last year we'll have to see where revs come in at.

Since Weise is a UFA he's going to cost more but he would need some kind of season to get the 3M per mark imo. If he gets 20+ goals and 40+ points that should get him a bit more cash. My guess is he'll be back at 3 or maybe 4 years if he really breaks out, as a UFA I can't see him going for a 2 year deal unless he goes into a long slump. I'm not as concerned with the length as they have money to buy out players down the road, but if the cap drops a few million then it's going to be tight since we are at almost 61M for 15 players currently.

Lol most of you didnt read the initial post...the poll is for a 30 goal season.
That means whats it gonna cost to sign at end of season or close to end with a 30 goal season under his belt at 27 yrs old and being a ufa...

Well I just meant something shorter term.

Regardless, I think he gets shy of 3M for 2 or 3 years. It all depends oh how he does the rest of the year but the DD line has been the definition of consistent so I doubt he gets any less than 20 goals.

Weise was born a Hab fan. He wants to win a CUP(s) here in Mtl.

Weise might give his/our Habs a discount (contract similar to Prust's but longer term). Weise is amazing for our Habs...and our Habs are amazing for Weise.

5 years X 2.5mil/year.

I'd sign him as soon as possible before Weise gets 30goals (or more) this season! (or gets very close to 30). And, he can pot 15 to 25 goals in most seasons...if you continue giving him ice-time in the top 9.

Playoff warrior and iron-man (and he's also darn good in the regular season).

Imo, Weise has to be a Hab for another 4-5 seasons...he has to.
IF we win a CUP in the next 3-4-5 seasons...Weise will play a huge part, no doubt, imo.

No brainer...sign him already.
(when Bergevin signed him to a 2 year deal at 1mil/year...I was thinkin he should have given him 4-5 years instead of 2years...he's a playoff warrior...we need more, not less).

Go Weise Go!! (sign a 4-5 year contract...pretty please!!).

Was just interviewed on 690 right now, guy comes across as grounded and charismatic. Calls his dad his own personal Darren Dreger, digs up everything that is written up about him.

Dale Weise on 690 with Nilan...."The system is the same as last year, we play the same, main difference is better execution and a better understanding of what they have to do", amongst a few other reasons!!!

He had some good things to say about DD as well and said if he had to choose one center on the Habs to play with it would be him. Hopefully that line can keep it up all season long.

 Wow they really swallowed that coach's pill.

''Execution''..Therrien's universal reason to everything. Play well, we execute well, play poorly, players executed poorly.

They can't stop talking about puck possession this year. They literally can't say it enough. That is a huge change from previous season where they almost never mentioned it.

DD does look quicker and stronger on his skates this season. Last season it seemed like DD was falling on his ass on pretty much every shift. I haven't noticed it happening much this season.

....and Nilan backed up Weise's comments with his analysis......same system but better executed with better players....guess Therrien is a part time hypnotist and has everyone that counts when it comes to credible opinions under his spell.....good god already!!:laugh:

Everyone is lying....it's a conspiracy!!...

Or you know, they just don't discuss things and spew out the same garbage like 99% of hockey players?

But hey, that's fine if you actually believe you're seeing the team play exactly the same. I guess it took 2 years for the players to finally understand this highly complex structure.

He is certainly falling on his *** less than last year no doubt about it.
