Dale Hawerchuk - 1963 -2020. Rest in peace

This is so incredibly sad to hear, 57 is way too young to pass on these days. I was a bit too young to remember Ducky in his true prime but he was an amazing player and an even better person.

Based on what I read, he went into remission in April but only three months later, he relapsed which is usually never a good sign. Cancer is an absolute POS and the quicker we can find better cures and treatment to it the better.

RIP Dale and my heart goes out to his family, friends, relatives and anyone who has been touched by his brilliance over the years.

This got me to the bone. Dale was a legend, class act, and would not let anything stop him who wouldn't leave without a fight, even battled stomach cancer through-in and throughout. Like Gretzky was just done playing Heritage Classics and meanwhile, Dale is coaching and can't get enough of it. If that's not true heart and dedication I don't know what is. I don't care what anybody says, he was the best Jet ever, yes even better than Bobby Hull, Thomas Steen, and Teemu Selanne, on and off the ice.

I was seriously hoping he was going to take over as Jets head coach one day.

My deepest condolences to the Hawerchuk family.

RIP

Just saw this news. Not unexpected given what we have heard about his condition. But sad news just the same. 57 is too young. Almost any age is too young, but 57 is really too young. I was thinking of saying it is unfair - and it is to his family. But he packed a good life into his 57 years. RIP Dale, RIP.

Have only been a Jets fan since they moved back to Winnipeg (was a Jets fan briefly when Teemu was in the all-star game but I was 6) so never really knew about Dale. I am really glad to learn all about him this past decade. And I am glad I got to watch him in the Heritage Classic. He is the Bart Starr (sorry Vikings fans) of the Jets. Can't wait to teach my son about him when he gets older.

RIP Ducky

The best Jet of all time bar none. Best player in the league for awhile if it weren't for 99. I watched that play live in the Canada Cup where Hawerchuk won the draw and 99 eventually passed it to 66 to score the big goal. Ducky was a big part of that team and a huge part of that goal.

To me, Dale not coming back to the Jets organization is like the Beatles never getting back together...things that should have happened.

This is where my empathies kick in a bit too hard. While I didn't know Dale, like naturally you all did. Lost my father to stomach cancer about a year and some months, also my uncle just months ago to lung cancer. Also a lot of my friends have had family lost to cancer... as if the year isn't been bad enough.

I've been on the team F... 2020 and cancer for sometime now. And this really sucks, sorry for you all that he had bigger presence. Naturally too the family.

Other than that, lost for words really. Hope you all are safe. Nothing like this shouldn't happend. Just too cruel.

I got to shake Dale's hand last year at St.B golf course because they had a warm up event before his big golf tournament. They said they were coming back this year because they enjoyed it so much. :(

Rest in peace to the legend and greatest Jet to ever put on the blue and white.

I've had a seriously tough year with cancer so far. Seriously f*** cancer and it's entire existence. Not a day goes by that I hope we can one day figure out how to end its time in this universe and banish it to the history books.

Hi folks. I was caught off guard when I saw the announcement on nhl.com.

As was mentioned already, the outpouring of thoughts are a testament to the man. He was a one of my favourites growing up. Thank you for sharing some stories about his demeanour away from the game.

Some players just represent a franchise in the minds eye. I know he wore the colours for other teams, but he was always a Winnipeg Jet to me.

Condolences to the Hawerchuk family. If any of you happen upon this Thread, I hope it’s of some solace as you grieve. The man was a giant among men.
