Try for the 1st or sign Zucc to an extension. There's no one in this organization that has his skillset and consistency. Seems like the Rangers mishandled what they had in that return.

But who knows. None of us are on the inside....

I think the Rangers would’ve loved a first, but there comes a point where the offers are what they are — especially when a player has more or less been available for a year now.

I also don’t think that trading him for 20-30 games automatically precludes him from coming back.

If it does, then I wouldn’t consider his resigning a given in the first place, to say nothing about the concerns it would give me.

How do you know?

And its not simply passing up on better offers...its does Gorton have the command and respect throughout the league to get what he deserves for his players. Is it poor negotiation skills?

This was a severe under payment

A GM interested in a player isn’t stupid enough to offer substantially less because he doesn’t respect Gorton. Not when there could be other teams interested.

This wasn’t severe underpayment. There clearly weren’t better offers for a pending UFA.

Yea cant make up getting a ****ING 3rd round pick for one of the best scorers in the league over the past 2 months

They got a 2nd and a 3rd? Still possible for the other conditions to be met? Do you think there were better options left on the table and Gorton just decided to take this one? He's a 31 year old rental winger who had 37 points in 46 games this season.

Reactions: FIRE DRURY
Dallas coach said 4 weeks, but not more so going through doctors in Texas. Jim Montgomery also mentioned Zucc elevated the whole team and all started to play better - when he created plays and was a star in that important 4-3 win game for Dallas Stars.

They had a whole period to figure it out. Medical staff isn't a bunch of idiots. They can figure out generalities before sending him to a doctor for more specifics.
Just never heard a team so eager to get that type of information out at this point of the season.

One of things we should keep in my mind is that just because we wanted a certain deal, doesn’t mean it was out there to be had.

And waiting doesn’t necessarily change that.

We have to be careful about creating no-win scenarios.

If we make a move, and we don’t like, we should’ve waited.

If we wait, and we don’t like the move, we waited too long and overplayed our hand.

If we don’t like the return for the guys we’re trading, we should just resign them and stay the course.

At some point we end up contradicting our own contradictions.

The Rangers have been open for business for a year. There are no rushed deals in which the Rangers took a deal just for the hell of it.

Both fanbases are in shambles
I don’t get why. If Benn and Zucc are hurt and Dallas tanks, our pick likely ends up in the 30’s range.

I’ve said it a few times now. People are looking for reasons to be mad at this trade.

Where Gorton should really be judged is on the Hayes deal. There was no competition outside of Duchene. Zucc had tons of competition with Dzingel, Stone, Simmonds, etc. and that is part of the reason why I am okay with the return for Zucc.

If Zucc some how misses the playoffs and they still make it to the WCF... then he signs with us. That would be great. I’ll take the first this year and would be happy with the 3rd next year.

Yes but him being out and Dallas dropping in the standings doesnt help the chances of him resigning there.

Haha, Zucc looked downright amazing. Maybe if it’s best if he is out for the year, they think they have MSL II on their hands?

Seriously though, terrible luck. Must be a broken arm though, right? That have you being out 3-4 weeks, hands etc is more unclear.
