Yes there are replacements for Hayes with Strome and Namestnikov (but to a lesser extent than what Hayes brings to NYR). Howden and Andersson could eventually replace all of them in a few seasons if they continue to develop right. I would say Chytil, but I think he'll be more used at the wing.

But that's besides the point because Zucc and Hayes are different players, IMO. Hayes isn't as consistent and is a middle-6 center with age on his side. Zucc is a top-6 winger with elite playmaking ability, despite age being against him....

Let’s agree to disagree. I think you are stretching quite a bit both in the replacement argument as well as in comparison to Hayes.

And Zucc walking for nothing at the end of the season was pretty realistic too.

Not if the Rangers had interest - which they clearly didn't for whatever reason.

My point remains - the organization would've been better off signing him than trading him for a ~45th and a ~70th pick. That makes the organization worse which seems counterintuitive to rebuilding. Zuccarello was clearly interested and hoping to remain a Ranger which obviously wasn't reciprocated.

Had the return been better, I'd have less of an issue with it. The club is worse today than it was yesterday.

He’s a rental until he signs a contract.
Technically yes, as a UFA, but Jarmo didn't have those intentions and likely treated the trade and Dzingels value as such (ie paying more to secure a piece they view long-term).

So, to the Blue Jackets, Dzingel is not a rental.

It's going to get worse by tomorrow night. Shouldn't be a surprise

Hayes doesn't bother me as much, for whatever reason and I don't care about McQuaid. If we have hope for the future, we've got a lot of centers in the system. We're a lot thinner on top 6 wingers. I'm really curious what the summer will bring.

Old news already, but already happy for Zuccha with his instantaneous success with Dallas. No surprise really. All he needs is someone or player (s) to put the biscuit in the basket more often than we did and he will be just fine.
Giannone just "had to" ask Hank about Zuccha. He just "had to", right? Knew that would result in tears, not just for Hank, me too. HANK's reaction and Mats loss, made me break out, with no real surprise there.

Keeping a 32 year old does nothing for the rebuild. All he can do is ruining our picks. He won’t be around when we are competive again. If both picks turned into nothing then the rebuild is where it would have been if they kept him

And the team being worse after the trade is literally the point. Worrying about how good the team is today isn’t

I'll agree to disagree. Teams need vets through a rebuild and I highly doubt the Rangers are on a 5 year plan. The literal point is to keep making the organization better and a 45th and a 70th don't do that.

(Edit) ** If Zuccarello signs with the Stars then I have no problem with the return on the trade.

Here's to hoping that we have a great draft and Krav comes over.
