meh I don't hate it. Once Hemsky and Eakin are good to go he probably only gets a handful of games. Until then he can play 4th line

In his earlier 20's Korpedo used to be a decent 3rd line option, sometimes showing flashes of even more upside. At times he showed a great power move or even a skill play, while always having good work ethic. But he never had the finish, he just shoots it at the net without aiming anywhere else than in the goalies chest. He doesn't have a great hockey sense or vision, making him somewhat of a black hole offensively and not that great defensively either IMO (when it comes to reading plays).

He works hard and is a decent PKer, but offensively he's lost the drive he once showed he had. I guess scoring a goal on 1/10 good chances starts getting to you.

And it's not like Korpedo is a hitting machine either. He battles along the boards and skates hard, but nowdays he's just a very boring player.

Definition of a guy who you can throw out there in case of injuries and know he can compete, but ultimately doesn't really bring anything. In my opinion these kind of players aren't really NHLers. He's sticking around just because he's a veteran player.

Leagues average S% within forwards is ~10,5% and his career average is 10,5%. So his not bad. His just average.

Dallas is down 3 forwards, two long-term. I'm fine with this signing. We can waive him whenever Hemsky gets back and the cap cost is like 100k.

Korpikoski didn't show much at the World Cup, but the worst forward in the league?

Come on, the guy scored a hattrick last season playing a depth role, I mean how bad can he be?

Good luck to him! Other than PK abilities there isn't much else useful.

Exactly what the Stars need with the injuries they had. Supposedly he's also fast so thats nice. Its a bandaid nothing more. If all goes well he's in the pressbox the majority of the year.

There is easily worse 4th liners in other teams in NHL the Korpikoski. Good 2-way workhorse and needed PK addition for Dallas. He's going to do his job extremely well. Don't wait him produce point wise. Very good signing by Dallas.

This is what Oiler fans said when we traded for him and we didn't want to believe Arizona fans when they said he was absolutely horrible. As an Oiler fan who suffered through a year of him he was as bad as they said he was. He's among the 5 worst forwards in the league last year IMO (of regular NHLers, not factoring in short term injury call-ups or depth players).

Korpse can skate fast, he can forecheck, he is adequate on the PK, and is reasonably dangerous if he gets an uncontested direct lane to the net. What he can't do is make plays he just isn't effective at moving the puck or passing it to teammates, the play is always dying on his stick. He is also really bad at receiving the puck, he is ok with skating into the puck in open ice, but badly struggles with just taking a normal pass. Being able to make a play and receive a pass are bedrock skills of an NHL player and cause of his short comings in this area you are just bound to have the puck a lot less then the other team when he is on the ice. The modern NHL is all about puck possession time (hard to get scored on when you have the puck) and Korpikoski is the antithesis of this.

The original rumour from Iltasanomat was true then. (in finnish)

The journalists were Santtu Silvennoinen and Sami Hoffren.

(For recordkeeping. Too many twitter Kalinis/Eklunds that write rubbish)

Correction: original was in iltalehti first.

Hoffren's first was released an hour before that. I don't remember how he put it but he said that Korpikoski had already made a deal and Stars was the most obvious team. I guess he didn't state it as a fact though more as speculation. So kind of Hoffren was first and he certainly is more trustworthy than Silvennoinen ...

As for the deal: Good for Korpedo to get one more chance. I think he can still handle his role as PKer and fourth liner. With 1 year/1mil deal it isn't too bad gamble for stars either.
