Useless 4th-liner?

In his earlier 20's Korpedo used to be a decent 3rd line option, sometimes showing flashes of even more upside. At times he showed a great power move or even a skill play, while always having good work ethic. But he never had the finish, he just shoots it at the net without aiming anywhere else than in the goalies chest. He doesn't have a great hockey sense or vision, making him somewhat of a black hole offensively and not that great defensively either IMO (when it comes to reading plays).

He works hard and is a decent PKer, but offensively he's lost the drive he once showed he had. I guess scoring a goal on 1/10 good chances starts getting to you.

And it's not like Korpedo is a hitting machine either. He battles along the boards and skates hard, but nowdays he's just a very boring player.

Definition of a guy who you can throw out there in case of injuries and know he can compete, but ultimately doesn't really bring anything. In my opinion these kind of players aren't really NHLers. He's sticking around just because he's a veteran player.

Wild needs a 4th line LW who can PK. Looking at waiver pickups apparently.

I feel sorry for whoever signs him. He really is an awful player. Such a shame with how good of a skater he is, but I guess the same applies to Mason Raymond (albeit, Raymond's the much better player).

He's a solid penalty killer. That's literally all he brings to the table nowadays. I guess if that and a plug in the lineup is what you need, Korpikoski would be a cheap option.

I don't want the Flames to sign any of the PTOs.

Let the young guys sink or swim

I don't mind bringing in a vet on a league minimum to help this team usher in the kids (the core of this team is still ridiculously young, Gaudreau is the old man leader at forward ).

Can't say I'm happy seeing Hunter go down to the minors; but if Higgins beats you out; there's some work to be done.

I'm legitimately surprised that Korpikoski still got extension to his NHL career. Seems like a nice guy and is really athletic. But he's not even a half decent player anymore. Very limited and specific role as a PK specialist is the only way I see him not hurting the team.

I wouldn't want him anywhere close to Gaudreau.

And Brouwer, Frolik, Backlund are all solid vets and we already have Stajan for the 4th line.

He's a veteran who knows his role and what's expected of him. Good PKer with great work ethic and still has the speed. Also he's a much better player than people give him credit for. To call him the worst player in the league is just stupid and untrue. He'll be a solid signing.

I assume you didn't watch him at all last year then. He was pretty damn awful.

I sure did. And I don't think he was awful. I also know better by now to not judge anyone only based on how they look in the Oilers jersey. Don't mean that as a stab at the Oil but I don't have another way to put it.

Arizona fans said he was pretty bad in 2014-15.

Guys who played similar roles to him on the Oilers looked good. Really don't think it had anything to do with the team. He looked pretty bad in preseason on his PTO with Calgary as well, and as the poster above me said, Arizona fans all said he was pretty awful when we traded for him. I gave him a chance and hoped he'd look good despite those comments, but unfortunately they were very accurate.

He has signed with Dallas :O
It's Santtu Silvennoinen I wouldn't believe a word he says  And there is no source but hey it could be Dallas or maybe Minnesota.

Interesting. This is the only source in the whole internet mentioning his new deal...

Great, if true. Currently doubtful.

Yeah, Silvennoinen is rubbish. More often than not he has no idea what he is writing about.

This time I believe his "source" is Sami Hoffrèn from Iltasanomat. http://www.iltasanomat.fi/nhl/art-2000001926746.html At least that speculation on IS was published earlier...

They cite their own sources in that news, so who knows. Usually those magazines write stories based on few days old rumors from NA, so they might actually be right this time.

There was some surprise this morning when Calgary released Lauri Korpikoski from his PTO, after Flames coaches had been quite complimentary of his play, thus far, in the preseason.

So it sounds like someone else has signed Korpikoski. Any guesses who? I know Florida has some major injury issues (Bjugstad out 4 weeks, Huberdeau out 4 months).

vancouver?

Dallas had some injuries and we recently had Fountaine on a PTO just for one game ( released him next day ) . So maybe Dallas ? Probably means Hemsky isn't ready to start the year if true. Unlike Seguin who fully skated Hemsky sat out last few skates and people mentioned a possible setback.
