Shesterkin is way more proven and just simply way better than a goalie like Oettinger and Swayman. Both of these goalies have had an elite playoffs to their name that lasted only 1 or 2 series, but neither have had consistent elite season/playoffs after elite season/playoffs to their name under a starters workload, and Shesterkin plays for the worst team of the 3.
NYR literally just won the Presidents trophy…?

Even with that increase of $4billion in revenue, you've got NBA stars making up to 5x what a top NHLer makes - and no salary cap restrictions either, obviously. :dunno:

Going to be a loooong time before any NHL superstar signs a contract for over $60 mil per season.
Blame the hard salary cap in the NHL. Overpaying players for long, 8 years, fully guaranteed contracts can easily set a team back an entire decade with hardly any way out.

Man it's still so crazy to me that one of the best goaltenders in the league will only make 8.25M per season for 8 years but an absolute scrub in the NBA who plays like 12 minutes per night can make 10M per year on a 4 year contract then somehow get a pay raise.
1/2 the players to pay, higher revenues = bigger salaries. Not that hard to understand.

How is that the most desirable location to live in? 50 million dollars can’t buy a home worth living in, in New York City. 10 acres of land alone is probably worth 500 million in Manhattan let alone affording a house to build on that. Delusional opinion. Unless you’re a wallstreet guy people don’t wanna be crammed in a condo with no privacy.
What a terrible take. New York is an o6 team and has always been THE destination for free agency. It’s also arguably the most prestigious city in the league and you play at the legendary MSG.

At worst, it’s a top 5 most desirable destination in the league. And you can absolutely buy a home for a lot less than 50m lmao wtf

Shesh is better. Question is whether he’s worth 50% more than other top goalies? Or whether he’s 25% more valuable which would put him in closer to the price contract.

Plus who would pay Shesh the money he is asking for especially if it’s only over 7 seasons as a mid to late 30 something goalie is t likely to get 8 figures in 7 years.

Why? He supposedly can get 11m today if he wants it.
And he should. He’d be the highest paid goaltender of all time and play for a team in win now mode in a highly desirable market.

I’m not sure what his agent thinks. Maybe winning isn’t important and he just wants to get paid but there’s no contenders out there with 12m+ to spend on a goalie and all the league’s elites make considerably less than that.

lol funny post, you should do stand up dude.

This makes Ullmark's deal look like a joke.
Why? Because Ullmark is the only one with a Vezina, or because if you average the last 2-3 year gaa and save%, he’s number 1 at both.

Largely because they have the best goalie in the NHL by a fair margin. Their underlying metrics haven't been good for a while now, and that's even more apparent in the playoffs, but Shesterkin is out of his mind, especially in the playoffs.
They were 18-6-2 with Quick in net lol…

Good special teams will do that. Their 5v5 play is not great. They still rely heavily on Shesty and even more so in the playoffs when their 5v5 play was among the worst of the playoff teams in the past 3 years.

They're still a good team, but Shesterkin is their best and most valuable player by far.

Maybe if the NHL was making NBA numbers... But they're not. Not by a long shot.

Good deal!

That doesn’t even make sense….

You realize both Quick and Shesterkin play behind the same special teams… right?

So unless Quick is simply one of the best in the NHL as well, the NYR are just one of the top teams in the NHL.

So Swayman ended up resetting the bar for what good starting goaltenders will get. Good for them.

Seems very fair contract.

If I was wealthy I’d want a 100 acre ranch with a hockey rink, basketball court, private lake and maybe even an air strip. Now Ottenger can get that in the Greater Dallas area easy. Probably for under 10 million. How much would that be in New York? Atleast not for Canadians New York isn’t desirable.

Compare what 10 million can get you in Winnipeg vs New York. If I were to move to New York I’d need a private airpad for a helicopter to take me from point A to B because there is no way I’d be waiting a hour for traffic everyday.

Edit- 1 acre of land is worth 43,560,000 USD in Manhattan.

Of course it makes sense. In a small sample which you referenced special teams can win you a lot of games. The rangers do not have good underlying 5v5 numbers the past 3 seasons and playoffs. Meanwhile Shesterkin has the best stats, and advanced stats of any goalie the past 3 seasons and playoffs combined by a massive margin.

Nobody moving to Manhattan is buying 10 acres, it's downtown NYC. lol

It's an awesome place, you should probably visit. I thought I'd have no desire to live in NYC, then I went and that's the only place I want to live now.
