Canes are not a team that panic-trades. Clearly, if they are trading Rantanen instead of holding him as a rental, they must be getting someone that they really covet.

Fair I’m pretty sure Stank would be coveted by every team in the league, if you look at it as Necas for Stank isn’t that bad value wise, just a bit odd considering that the Canes are in a win now mode.

That would be a very high price to pay. You can probably lock in Johnston at a much more reasonable cap hit and he’s not far off. Rantanen making 13M+ would handcuff Dallas. Johnston probably makes what? 9?

Dallas might be better off letting them offer sheet and take potential 4 1sts.

Vancouver could've handled their tough situation last year by getting Necas+ for EP. They don't get a free pass for being stupid and letting the Miller situation get outta hand and losing the better player for pennies on the dollar
