Because when everyone on this board is overwhelmingly riding the move one team made, it often turns out the opposite of how most people anticipate.

Kind of like when the Avs were being clowned on for trading Rantanen, and Carolina immediately became the favorite in the East

I can absolutely get behind that sentiment, but I don't think thats the move in this scenario

They only make this trade after Rantanen basically told them to f off in contract negotations and that he isnt re-signing. They cant lose him for nothing. Doesnt matter about only this year. Their window is not only 1 year.

Guentzel fit like a glove there, that was the player to keep long term in Carolina. That's the one that should hurt Canes fans for a while not this Rantanen misfire not withstanding the assets lost

Yup. Vancouver faced a much tougher situation with JT and a full NMC and got Chytil, Marcus Pettersson, Mancini O'Connor while dumping three contracts.
Then immediately re-signed both UFA's, that's making the best out of a shit situation!
