Gurianov is what some of our posters and other fanbases think Josh Anderson is. He's Anderson without any of the grit or intangibles. Unless the goal is to sell him at the deadline I don't really want to bring him back. He's not good enough to fill the Marian Gaborik role on a contender of the guy who contributes zero except points.
Anderson brings grit and physicality. Gurianov has better hands and can use his linemates better in the ozone.

Gurianov has to be taught certain things, as Anderson did. We'll see if MSL wants to work with him or not. MSL did a lot for Anderson's game.

One thing's for sure, Gurianov needs to play with good linemates to produce. No one should be surprised by the goose eggs playing with Drouin and Armia. The whole team hasn't been scoring lately. It's no surprise Gurianov hasn't been. But, does he take away from his linemates offensively the way Anderson used to? I think that's where his better hands come in. I'd have to see more of him playing with two good linemates, like say Dach and Heineman or Slaf, or even Anderson, or RHP. Not Drouin, Hoffman, Armia, Pitlick, etc... Ylonen is also not a good fit with him.

I have an issue with athletes playing in countries who’s culture they disagree with. Whether one’s values go against liv golf or pride nights.

Also he skates really fast. Ciao.

Keep in mind that a playoff team would rather have Dadonov then him. I would rather have one of our prospect playing than him next year. So... Bye!

Anderson is a low IQ frustrating player that a lot of fans overrate because he's big and hits hard but he has a few strong skills including speed and a shot, in addition to his hard work, that make him a serviceable middle 6 player even if he is a black hole.

Gurianov was an interesting gamble but he seems to make Anderson look like a high IQ player. Tools but no toolbox. Oh well.

You mean like Logan Mailloux in Sweden?

Not sure how related. Kid could have made his mistake anywhere and has nothing to do with playing golf for Saudi’s or hockey in north America while in disagreement with what is socially acceptable there. I’m no more impressed with the Staals or anyone citing religious values - that’s just gross.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's back in KHL next year...
And likely why he's less comfortable wearing the jersey with the new bill from a few months ago. His NHL future is up the air and he might have to return to Russia to play.

I read that he had no issue participating the past couple of years with Dallas before the new bill was signed. I couldn't find proof of this, but it's not an easy thing to quickly search for.

Right?

The funny thing is that their career points per 82 average (including playoffs) is nearly identical. Gurianov doesn't really play physical but he's also paid substantially less. Anyone who likes Anderson for $5.5M should absolutely love Gurianov for $2.9M.

Does anybody think Gurianov will be a Hab next year?
Depends on the contract he's willing to take. If he was willing to sign for $2M or realistically a bit less on a short term deal, I think Hughes would sign immediately. If he expects the same money or a raise, Hughes will wish him the best of luck and move on.

Hm.

If you had a career opportunity in Russia that afforded a life you could have never, ever imagined in Canada you would turn it down because of different cultural views? - I am going to pre-emptively call bullshit on that.

Or, would you take on the same cultural views that they do in Russia to fit in?

I’m not commenting for or against but when we expect every single person to hold the same opinion on every issue, we’ve reached a point where society is broken. You can decline to wear a pride jersey while not preventing anyone from holding whatever beliefs they have. I have an issue where those same people aren’t allowed to hold their own opinion also.

I prescribe to the approach that let everyone do what they want and don’t impose your views on another person. Everyone has the right to hold whatever opinion they want (obviously adhering to the laws of the nation). In that way, anyone can do as they please and still be free.

The gf and I are financially secure so bad example, although I understand your point.

The most chill way I can put it is that things don’t always have to work out.

I am trying to think of an equivalent scenario where I go to russia and refuse to salute the soldier singing the anthem for example or stay in the room for it and then hop on the powerplay. Feels like I would not belong there.

Your ideology does not account for idiots or jerks. Calling out the shit bits in society is how we evolve. « Free to be racist or homophobic » is not a thing.

so people shouldn't stand up for their beliefs and just gobble the corporate diarrhea no matter what? If a Muslim refuses to eat the same meal as the other guys on the team, should he be forced to? I'm all for people making a stand if its what the believe and they are legally allowed to do so, it takes balls. Muslims, jews, catholics, its their right, all the power to them.

Leave politics out of sports , has no place in it anyways.

The guy is invisible on the ice, good luck to him wherever he lands next season as long as it’s not in Montreal.

Just go read the article about michkov father going missing then being found dead . I for one have no issue with any Russian deciding not to take part in this , as sorry life of one’s family is way way more important then doing a warm up in a jersey , even though people like me approve and are all for that.
I certainly not trying to make this about politics but In this case , if they do they might risk too much and that is simply not worth the risk

How in the world are you equating these things?

and pride night = corporate dierrhea? Have a nice life bro, wow (will hit ignore, I don’t think I ever have).

He can make a stand, and I am allowed to ask him to get the f**** out of my city. Am I doing this freedom thing right?

I’ll answer but not sure if serious… NO I would not force anyone to eat pork (wtf). And a guy refusing to share a meal does violence to no-one. Jesus christ, maybe you’re right and we should only talk corsi on here.

Didn't know eating certain meals signifies fan inclusiveness, tf is this post lol. No one is being marginalized for not eating a pork.

I get the point you're trying to make (and I disagree with it) but you didn't not get that point across at all.

Thats the problem with Pride nights though. They were forced to take a stand by either wearing the jerseys in support/celebration or not. Its not as if they were protesting at a parade or anything. I'm sure most of them would have preferred to keep their views to themselves, but that option was taken away.

I don't think there is anything particularly harmful about someone quietly/personally not approving of the LBGTQ lifestyle.

Basically these nights are "outing" those with unpopular or politically incorrect views so to speak, I'll be glad when they are no longer a part of the game. No place for that and they have done more harm than good.

What a spectacularly stupid comparison.

At any rate, Gurianov is free to do what he wants. And people are free to criticize him for it. Seems like a fair thing to me.
