Pittsburgh does have a 2nd round pick, its just not their 2nd round pick:This is like buying stocks at high price and sell when they go down. No. Trading Dach when injured makes no sense and i don't even think Pittsburgh does it especially since they have no 2nd round pick...they traded it to Montreal!
As a piece in a Crosby deal then Dach would be obviously available. For a pick, no thanks. To Montreal: 2025 2nd round pick (WAS)
To Pittsburgh: Dach
Montreal gets some additional cap space to add a legit 2nd line center plus a futures asset, and the Pens take a flier on a former high draft pick who's been a band-aid since being drafted.

I think the OPs idea was to try to improve faster with low cost guys. I do agree though a full tear down is needed in Pitts.Don’t like it for either. Pittsburgh needs draft selection lotto tickets. Not RFAs looking to rebound. Montreal doesn’t really get anything with a late second and Dach that figures it out next year would help their timeline more.
Dubas intends on trying to make the Pens competitive again while Crosby's playing.Value is fine for Kirby, not sure why either do it though
Montreal doesn't need more 2nd round picks, especially a very late one.
Value is horrible.
Ah, another regarded member of WallStreetBets eh?This is like buying stocks at high price and sell when they go down. No. Trading Dach when injured makes no sense and i don't even think Pittsburgh does it especially since they have no 2nd round pick...they traded it to Montreal!
Again, Montreal will already have nearly 25M in cap space (including Price's LTIR) with no notable RFA/UFA to sign. Adding 3.5M in cap space won't matter if we can't find anything to spend it on.Dubas intends on trying to make the Pens competitive again while Crosby's playing.
Dach's a scratch ticket but if he were to put it all together his timeline would be quicker than a 2nd rounder's. Montreal is already making the playoffs but need a 2C at minimum to be truly competitive. This opens up some extra space and adds an asset that could either be flipped as part of a 2C package or give the Habs more draft stock this year if they were to deal one or both of their 1sts for a 2C.
But Montreal has no reason to trade the guy, especially not when they finally get out of the basement and are competing again.Seems a fair trade. Dach was picked 3OA because of his potential ceiling. He’s clearly not getting to that level. But there will be a GM out there who will pay a price and hope he does.
Sure. Dach might not be on the market. Just commenting on if the OP suggested a fair value. IMO a second for Dach is fair. But Montreal has no reason to trade the guy, especially not when they finally get out of the basement and are competing again.
No thanks. If cap space isn't an issue, Habs might as well hang onto him and hope he rebounds.Again, Montreal will already have nearly 25M in cap space (including Price's LTIR) with no notable RFA/UFA to sign. Adding 3.5M in cap space won't matter if we can't find anything to spend it on.
A 2nd round pick is not an asset that will make or break a trade for a 2 C, especially when Montreal already have 2x 1st and 2x 2nd going into the draft to dangle for immediate help.
If you want a player right now, you can take Laine... for free. He's still young (27) and you'll save yourself a 2nd round pick.
